the first day of travel

I wake up in the little hut her called home. My house was on the side of a mountain, his whole village was, this part of the world is quite a few mountains.

"are you ready for work Raptor?" my brother says, and i look at him with a smile.

"yea, for sure" I reply, what he doesnt know is that i have a plan, I wont be going to work today, i will be meeting my friends near the base of the mountain where the school is, we graduated long ago but thats not the reason we are going there.

They say that poeple who tried to leave the village were killed by animals, beasts of the night. I have never been told what kind of beasts there are, but the people who did try to leave wernt Nutres, a Nutres is someone who can harness certain powers, I have been told that i am going to be one, but i havnt had any kind of powers yet.

I eat my breakfast quickly, and head out the door, i take some clothes, food, and water, and some emergency supplies, normal for work, but most "emergency" supplies are just medical herbs, and clothes woven from tree leaves and other things.

Rosetion is already there when I reach the school, he waves to me as i walk over to him. Rosetion has long wavy black hair, with a smudgy face, he is also short for our age, 13.

"You look ready," he says, and i cant help but laugh a little.

"yea, been ready for a week now, where are the girls?" I ask, and he points up the mountain, a few hundred feet are Kate, and Crystal. They are just older than us, 14, although Kate is the tallest of all of us, by just a few inches, and she is smarter as well.

"Well, we are all here," Crystal says, and we stand there for a moment, looking back at out home. we are all ready to leave, but really, are we? We start to head down the trail, talking about what was planned for us that day. Rosetion was gonna be planting some wheat, and carrots, while Crystal would have been part of building a house, and Kate would have been learning to become a teacher, i would have been working in the blacksmith shop.

At the base there is forest, lots and lots of forest. Its pretty dark in the forest, i can barley see anythign as we just keep going West

Trees, and more trees, occasionally we spot some useful plants to either eat, or for medical uses we stop and grab them, but for the first few hours we dont stop, its probably close to midday when we do take the first rest.

"I will take a look around for some clean water," I offer and no one objects to it, so I go in a rough circle about fifty to a hundred feet around where the others are but the best i find are some dirty puddles. I do manage to find some berry bushes, which are safe to eat so i pick a bunch and bring them to our makeshift camp.
