Waking up from her most peaceful sleep yet, Charlotte rubs her eyes.
Two knocks were heard from the door before it opened, revealing Charlotte's older brother.
"Time to eat breakfast." Her brother said smiling towards the beauty of his little sister. Her long blonde wavy hair, slightly messy, and her matching brown eyes, with a frail body, for a 5 year old, she was quite tall.
"I'll be there! Just gotta get ready!" Charlotte said smiling brightly. The girl with a cheerful personality, always smiling, always happy. That's who Charlotte is - no. That's who Charlotte was.
-
Charlotte all freshen up and lively came to the kitchen. She smiled upon seeing her mother, placing the plates for the two of them.
Charlotte looked around the house, from the kitchen, to the living room, and even the backyard, just to look for her brother but he was nowhere to be found.
She ran back to the kitchen asking her mom for her brother's whereabouts. "He ate early today and left to go play at his friends house, so don't worry about him." "Oh, okay!"
Charlotte happily went to sit down in the table and starts eating with her mom.
Putting another spoonful of omelette in her mouth, Charlotte smiles, the food was delicious, the weather was perfect, and it was saturday. No class, no nothing.
-
Getting up, Charlotte drops the plate she was holding causing it to shatter, when she heard loud, disturbing screams from outside. Fear, agony, and despair.
"Charlotte come here!" Her mom picked her up, and ran towards the basement. Charlotte could feel her mom's trembling limbs, but she had said nothing. These kind of feelings were new to a five year old girl like Charlotte.
"Mom, what's happening?" Charlotte said in the verge of crying. "Sweetie listen to me. Whatever happens, do NOT come out. Alright? Stay here, I'm gonna go get your brother, so wait for us here. Alright?" Charlotte nods having no other choice.
Or so she was taught. But no, she was too worried about her family's well being.
She waited for a bit and followed her mother, staying at a certain distance hiding behind anything that could cover her so that her mom wouldn't see or notice her.
-
Charlotte peaked through the door, dropping down to the floor as soon as she did.
A creature so vile, getting creeped out she had started running towards the basement where her mom had hidden her.
Sitting down Charlotte covered her mouth making sure she doesn't make a single noise, as tears roll down her cheeks.
What she saw traumatized her.
She witnessed her families death. An unknown creature killed her mother and her brother, she regretted not doing anything as she saw their heart being pulled out and their heads being cut off.
Charlotte did her best to stop crying but her tears won't cooperate. She quietly sobbed and sobbed until...she heard a loud loud thud.
Charlotte flinched, she closes her eyes as her heart rate rises, the footsteps were getting louder and louder.
She was afraid and frustrated. Why can't she do anything? Why can't she think? Why? Just why? She can't even move, she's been paralyzed, metaphorically.
"I told you there's no one here." Charlotte heard a man's voice. It was....a human? Slowly, she stood up and peaked at the two voices talking- no, arguing with each other.
"Let's just look around once more." The man who first entered, answered. Charlotte's eyes were basically glistening, she thought she had hope.
They're here to save me!
She thought. Though there were many possible risks, Charlotte couldn't care less. She'd not want to waste the hope she had built-up.
She slides the box that was covering her earlier, giving her a clearer view of the "people" earlier.
Oh
The glistened eyes that Charlotte had was now gone. They weren't humans. The creatures red eyes glowed in the dark, and as they saw her, they transformed into something else.
Charlotte couldn't move. She knew she was done for.
The creature's rushes in on her, grinning, happy to have seen another meal.
Charlotte stared at the creatures blankly. She couldn't care anymore, it was the end for her and she knew that.
She closes her eyes.
At the age of five, she had awoken to the cruel reality of this world. At the age of five, she had lost those she loved the most. At the age of five, she had already accepted death.
