Episode 9

Two Years Later

Alpha Martin's POV (new character)

"No matter how hard we throw back the enemy’s attacks, they seem to come out of nowhere!" My beta tries to explain and I nod my head in agreement, leaning back in my chair, running my fingers through my hair in frustration. Looking down at the maps covering the entire surface of my desk. Showing the numerous locations where the enemy pack has invaded our borders and attacked my pack members! I have exhausted every possible idea, strategy and technique and nothing had worked. The enemy keeps coming back harder and harder, tearing down my men like they were plastic toy soldiers. We have managed to have no casualties so far, but it was only a matter of time. Their battle strategy adapted every time they step onto our territory, they were impossible to predict.

"Did any of the other packs agree to our request for assistance?" I ask glancing down at the many printed out emails that I sent out to every pack within a driving or running distance. I looked back up at my beta and he had a grimace on his face, that was my answer alone.

"Obviously, no one wanted to help?" I mutter rubbing my eyes with my hands, feeling like the weight of the world was crashing down around me. I turn to face my son Nathan, he was sitting in the chair across the table, looking over our previous battle plans. He was the next in line for my position, and with the recent pack wishing to fight us for our land he's been put to work. This was definitely not the way I wanted to train him to be Alpha, but desperate situations call for desperate measures. He kept his gaze down on his sheet of paper, determined to prove himself to me. I didn't need him to prove himself, as a father I couldn't be anything but proud of him and how he's handled the last few weeks.

"There is one last resort..." My beta breaks the silence and I turn around in my chair and look at him expectantly, waiting for him to get to the point. He sees the look in my eye and nods before grabbing a thick folder of papers and places it on the desk in front of me. I raise my eyebrow at the large stack of information that I had never seen before in my life.

"Where is this from?" I ask opening the folder and staring wide eyed at the words printed on the page. I look back up at my beta in disbelief.

"You got to be kidding me!?" I yell standing up from my seat and stare accusingly at my beta. The escalating voices stir my son from his focus on the paperwork, to pauses and takes in the tension in the room and starts to take an interest in our conversation.

"I know it sounds like a completely absurd, risky, idiotic idea, but it just might work." My beta explains trying to get me to see things from his point of view, but I couldn't even begin to understand how he could even consider going through with his plan, it was insane.

"Look I know you don't trust rogues, but in the last couple years there has been an extraordinary growth in the number of rogue sightings." He tells me and I shake my head in disbelief. What on earth is my Beta going on about?

"What does that have to do with anything?" I ask getting tired of this game of going around the bush, I wanted him to tell me exactly which moronic idea he has come up with this time and if it was anything like the few words on the front page of that folder, I'm going to unload a whole lot of rage on him.

"I believe they have formed a rogue pack." He practically whispered, seeming to regret the words he spoke before they even left his mouth. I sat back down in my chair and breathed deeply into my hands.

"That's not possible, rogues don't listen to anyone how would they uphold a pack monarchy?" I ask and he shrugs his shoulders.

"All I know is that they have power in strength and numbers and they have an aspect no other fighter has."

He tells me and I lean forward to listen closer.

"The purest instincts, survival is life or death for them." He explains and I shake my head in disagreement.

"Survival instincts or not, I will never trust rogues." I explain before turning to my son to emphasize my point.

"If there's one thing you learn about being an Alpha son, is to never trust a rogue." I told him and he nods his head strongly before looking back down at the battle tactics.

Dawn's POV

"Dawn!" Joey yells from down the stairs and I exit my room and stare down the staircase.

"What?" I ask him annoyed and he gives me a pointed look. A look that said stop-pouting-this-is-important and I cross my arms over my chest and nod for him to continue.

"There's a small rogue family waiting downstairs to apply for asylum." He tells me and I sigh running my fingers through my hair.

"What are their circumstances?" I ask throwing my hair up into a messy ponytail as I trot down the stairs towards Joey.

"The son was kicked out of his pack for being able to disobey the Alpha command and his family chose to go with him." He explains and I cringe the situation sounding all too familiar.

"Natural born rogue?" I ask following him into the downstairs living room and he shakes his head in disagreement.

"Non-inherited dormant Alpha gene." He tells me and I whistle sticking my hands into the pocket of my Jersey.

"That's rare." I comment and Joey chuckles nodding his head.

"Extremely rare, the Alpha felt threatened by his gene and had him banished but not branded as a rogue." He explains and I nod my head entering the living room. As Joey described a small family of 3 stand in the living room, the mother had to be at least 40 years old and the father appeared to be around 45 not much older than his mate. The son has to be no younger than me by a couple years, he has to be at least 15 years old; with dark brown hair and blue eyes. He was handsome I have to admit, but he would never be as handsome as my mate, wherever he is.

"Hello, my name is Dawn, I'm the...founder of this...community." I explain struggling to find the words to fully explain our situation, I'm not the Alpha and this is not technically a pack as there is no official Alpha, beta or third in command and we haven't gained approval from the werewolf council. So, what else was I supposed to call this situation. I reach out my hand for him to shake.

"Nice to meet you Dawn, I'm Kyle and this is my wife Zara and my son Finn." The father introduces them all, shaking my outstretched hand. I take my hand back and cross my arms over my chest and I turn to face Finn.

"So, you have a dormant Alpha gene?" I ask him and he nervously nods his head in agreement.

"Prove it." I say and he raises an eyebrow in confusion.

"How am I supposed to do that?" He asks and I turn to look at Joey, his eyes widen and he slowly tries to back away but I quickly grab his arm and drag him back.

"Command Joey here to do something, I want to see how dormant the gene really is." I tell Finn and he nods looking at Joey, I can see his pupils darken slightly but they didn't go completely black like most Alpha eyes.

"Jump up and down." He orders Joey but of course Joey doesn't start jumping up and down like a weirdo, but I can see the strain in Joey's face and the sweat rolling down his forehead.

"His command is not all that powerful, but it hurts a lot to resist." Joey explains after Joey drops his command on him and I nod my head in approval.

"That's actually perfect." I comment and they look at me like I'm crazy.

"How is a barely existing Alpha command perfect?" Joey asks sounding grumpy and I chuckle giving him a nudge with my elbow.

"Think about it, our little pack is supposed to be based around the idea that you won't be forced to do anything you don't want to do, and his Alpha gene allows you to go against it if you truly believe it's not in your best interest." I explain and Finn seemed to let out a deep breath and I smile, knowing that he would be happy somewhere where the thing that got him banished could be the same thing that makes him treasured somewhere else.

"Does this mean we can join your 'pack'?" He asks and I nod my head with a smile.

"You and your family are allowed to stay, on one condition." I say and he nods his head wanting me to continue.

"Be my beta?" I ask and his eyes widen in surprise, even Joey's jaw seems to drop.

"Of course, I'd be honoured!" Finn answers and I nod my head before turning to one of my pack members.

"Olivia can you take Kyle, Zara and Finn to their rooms and have Finn set up in a room upstairs?" I ask her and she smiles respectfully and nods her head leading the small family away.

"Dawn what were you thinking?" He asks me in a calm voice but I can hear the criticism in his voice.

"Don't you think it's time we make our rogue pack official?" I ask nudging him again with my elbow and he sighs loudly and very over dramatically.

"Hmm I pretty sure I thought of that two years ago when we started his pack, I'm certain my exact words were 'Hey Dawn, when are we going to officiate the pack'?" He replies sarcastically and I chuckle.

"In order to start a pack your leader needs to have the Alpha gene." I explain and he nods his head realisation coming across his face.

"With Finn here we can finally become an official pack." He comments and I nod tapping my index finger on my temple.

"Smart, aren't I?" I say with a smirk and Joey gives me an annoyed look.

"So is Annalise cooking tonight?" I ask feeling a drool coming on, Joey's mate Annalise is the best cook in the pack.

"Yes, and as always you're invited." He tells me and a grin breaks across my face, and I pat him on the shoulder.

"I'll see you at dinner!" I sing before leaving Joey in the living room...
