Monday. I did my morning routine to prepare for work. Everybody knows I'm a workaholic person. But for today, I think I've lost my interest.
It's not about yesterday.
No, definitely that's not the reason.
Fine, I admit.
It's about what happened yesterday. As I fix my tie, I could feel the throbbing pain of my heart. Is this what they call heartache? 'Cause it does ache, literally.
That madwoman. Did I fall? Hard enough, I guess. Since childhood, she was the one with whom I wanted to spend my life. Childish and corny may it seem, but yes. I never thought this could've gone worse. And it did.
"Sir," said Justin at my side. I was back to my sense. "Yes," I answered in a serious tone.
"Nothing," he said. I turned to him, still fixing my tie. "What are you up to?" I asked curiously and eyed him.
"Did you cut my salary?" He asked.
I smirked and turned to the mirror in front of me. "Are you questioning your boss?"
"Mandemus-"
I cut him off. "Sir," I corrected. "Don't forget we are on working hours. Last warning and I'm gonna cut off your salary for two months," I continued.
He was taken aback by my attitude this morning. I'm a mafia tycoon, one of the powerful businessmen in Underworld. But inside my own house, I've never acted as one to my workers. I always level myself just like them but some were still afraid of me. Well, it's their problem. In Justin's case, he is my best friend but if he'll continue to act like this. He will not respect me. As if he didn't respect me before and now. But still, I have to act like a boss.
"Is there something wrong?" he asked.
I was having second-thoughts to spill it all out, especially this morning, I have work. But I guess I need to sacrifice the time. "Let's grab a drink," I state, finally.
His eyes widen. "Right now?"
"Yes. What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I'll leave now and book a restaurant-"
I cut him off again. "No, let's drink at home."
"Yes, Sir." He responded, then, excuse himself to prepare the wine. Before he can go out, I added, "Tell my secretary to cancel all the meetings for today and tomorrow."
He nodded twice and I looked at myself in the mirror again to loosen my tie. I sigh because this is the first time I'm ditching work.
The wine room was in odd silence as I pour another wine into my wine glass. I talked neither Justin. He looks reserved. I didn't know what was he thinking about my state now. I'm a heavy drinker but I would last long in drinking without knocking down. I guess that's because of genes. However, right now, I badly want to hit by alcohol to lessen the pain, that's what they say. Alcohol is your buddy when you're in pain.
I haven't known that's true not until now.
"Say something," I said to Justin.
"What should I say?"
"About you..."
"Why would I do that, Sir?"
"Drop the Sir. I want my best friend right now."
"What bullshit is this, Mandemus?"
I laughed because of his remarks. "That's better. Okay, tell me about yourself."
"You knew all of it."
"Tell something I don't know."
"I don't know?"
"Are you fucking kidding me?"
"Then what should I tell you? I think it's the reverse. What the hell is wrong with you? You're..." He cut himself and look at the wine on the table. "Drinking," he continued.
"What's wrong, am I not allowed to drinking?"
"No, you're not. But the thing is, you're drinking early in the morning. That's kind of shocking, you know."
"Pardon me. Do I need to command you to get out?"
He looks apologetic. "No, I can suit myself here and bear with your shit. Now, let me guess, is this about Mexica again?" He looks angry and annoyed by the thought.
"Yeah..." I answered and look at my glass, carefully. "This wine tastes good."
Justin clapped his hands after I answered his question. "I think you need to let her go."
I glared at him. "Don't try to piss me off early in the morning."
He bit his tongue and said, "No, seriously, dude. You need to let her go. I understand that she's your childhood friend and an old acquaintance but, seriously, do you need to push yourself hard enough? Let her go, and your problem will be solved."
"Your suggestion will only worsen my problem."
He put her hands on the air in remorse, but I know it's fake. "Fine, just keep her whatever you like. What do you see about her? She's cold to you. She acts like you're just a piece of trash in her eyes as if she's the most dignified woman in the universe. She's thin. She doesn't even have boobs. Look at her body, I couldn't see any parts that might turn you on. Her body was worse than the Chinese girls here." Justin hates Chinese women because of their thin and skinny bodies.
"I like her but not for my sexual desire. I like her for being herself. She's one of a bitchy-ass mode sometimes but I like her for that, except when it exceeds the limits. She's kind-"
Justin cuts me off. "Kind," he uttered and coughed.
"Yeah, she's kind. You don't know her but I do. She doesn't show it but she's a kind and justifiable person towards others but when it comes to herself, she couldn't even fight for it. She's-"
"Stop it, will you? I couldn't stand your adjectives anymore because it contradicts my beliefs."
I smiled at him. "Soon, you'll know."
"Can you show it to me right now, please? Please?" What the fuck, Justin made a funny move. He clasped his hands and pouted at me using that one-assy pouty lips of a black. Sorry, but I'm a racist sometimes.
Anyway, when he did that, that made me laugh hard. "Stop," I uttered out of breathing.
