That night, I slept tight and sound inside of my room. I didn't know what time was it when I went inside my room with a genuine smile plastered on my face. Fucking idiot. I haven't experienced this kind of feeling before. Only her, Mexica, could do this foreign thing to me.
So I prepare her a morning breakfast, personally. I cut the onions and cabbages into pieces, add some black pepper to the broth of chicken I was making. It's starting to feel hot so I strip my tight t-shirt and put it on the chair.
I sautè the ingredients and turn off the stove. It smells good. She must love this. After preparing the table, I saw Yaya went to my side.
"Mandemus, this is for?" She asked but I know in her eyes that she already knew. Smirking, I said. "You know who."
"This girl is something. You even cook her food, which is once in a blue moon. I've never thought you would be cooking in the kitchen. It's like an art."
"Thanks, Yaya," I said and winked. She smiled widely with her 'pustiso' teeth. I hope Yaya will live longer. She became my parent after my mom and dad died in an accident. All of her children grew up educated, got a college degree, and a nice and stable job. I admire her hard work. I thought she'll abandon me after my parents died but she didn't. She stayed at my side before and until now.
It's just sad that her children went to different countries and migrated, leaving her in China. I told her that she should take a rest and don't do the chores anymore but she's so stubborn. If Mexica's her daughter, then I'll understand where she got that attitude.
"Aww, my baby matured." She tousled my hair like a three-year-old kid. I pouted. "I'm 28 now. Why did you call me baby?"
She laughs, and I smiled. "You're still a baby to me, Mandemus. You've never had a serious relationship before and you were just strolling around. If you're not in your room, you would be out of the country for businesses. You're so workaholic that I thought you've forgotten your marriage."
"Why are you mentioning marriage, Yaya? Do you want me to get a wife now?" I said in a most-kidding-way but I've never expected a serious face in response. "Yes," she answered.
Wow. That was scary. So I bark a burst of laughter. "I was just kidding, Yaya. Marriage is not my type."
"Then why are you doing this?" She asked me, confusion was drowned in her wrinkled face.
"What do you mean?"
"This... practicing to cook for your wife. Isn't this for Mexica?"
"Yeah." I answered in a normal tone. "But I am just in a mood to cook her breakfast. It doesn't mean I want to marry her."
She heaved a big sigh. "You're still a kid. You haven't matured a bit."
"Yaya, I'm more than matured." I went to him and kiss her cheek. Then, I get the food tray and went to Mexica's room upstairs. I didn't dare to put my t-shirt on again.
I knocked, twice, thrice, but no response. "Mexica?" I asked and turned the door knob. However, unlike yesterday night, it's locked.
It's already 8:00 in the morning.
What time was her morning routine?
I should change her attitude. I put the food tray on the floor to get my spare keys. The spare keys was all in my room. I only have the access of it, besides Justin.
Speaking of that jock, where is he? Isn't is supposed to be his shift now? That dark jerk, his professionalism is fading. He always thought that it's okay because I'm his freaking best friend. I should deduct his salary.
When I went back in front of Mexica's room, all of the food that I've put effort to make was spilled on the floor.
No, it was on the floor and staircase.
The rice was splattered around.
I tried to convince myself that it wasn't Mexica's doing but I couldn't. Because I saw her when she did that. She kicked the food tray that made it all splattered on the floor.
This might be crazy and gay, but I felt like my heart was broken into pieces, little by little.
I poured all my heart and feelings just to make that food for her. But she just did that. Right. In. Front. Of me.
And she knew I was there.
I thought we're okay yesterday. That night almost made me believe that we're slowly turning back those times in childhood, where I could recognize her as my friend and vice versa.
"Did you make this for me?" She asked coldly.
"Yeah. Why did you do that?" I asked, angrily. But I did try my best not to show the hint of anger in my tone. Because I am a patient person.
"Don't waste your time. You're not going to get my trust."
"I didn't make that to get your trust."
"Then tell me why."
Fuck. Why am I feeling shy to answer her question? Still, I answered. "I... just... wanted to thank you yesterday?" I scratched the back of my neck. This too, this is one of the feeling I always get whenever I'm with her.
I'm always domineering and cold. Maybe because I met a colder person, that's why I'm feeling like this shit.
"Yesterday?" She asked, confused. The dark circle under her eyes was very evident. You can tell she was crying all night at first glance.
Ouch. She didn't remember our little chit chat last night.
"I mean... last night... " I answered sheepily. Fucking asshole. Be angry! You should feel outrageous because of her bad manner! You don't like that type of woman who acts like she's stronger and more powerful than a man.
Her response was colder. "I didn't remember anything last night."
Fuck. I dreamt of it. I recalled it numerous time in my head. That cold night and its ambiance. Her softness and her head on my shoulders. She didn't remember any of it? Or was she just pretending?
"I don't like liars in my house," I answered.
"Then kick them out. Should I pack now? I would be very much grateful to your rudeness," she said in sarcasm.
"Stop." I barked and touch her elbows when she was about to turn around and pack her things. "I was just kidding," I stated seriously.
"But I'm not."
"Mexica please..."
"Mandemus, let go." She sound pissed now.
"I should be the one who's pissed. Don't turn the tables around."
"If you don't like my attitude just-"
"Last warning. I'm gonna zip that fucking sexy lips with my mouth if you act like a sarcastic bitch again."
