Arkyn's POV
As soon as I was finished being checked, I wasted no time and stepped inside the mansion, unfamiliar faces with orthodox features greeted me. All of them talking to more unfamiliar faces.
It was like a big family reunion of all sorts. And, I was the black sheep. No one noticed me as I wandered around.
The mansion itself was gorgeous. But the decorations and colors are just horrendous.
Who would match neon green with shiny gold?
But at least they had a buffet and a bar.
I decided to check out the bar first, fortunately, it wasn't so far nor hard to find.
I decided to take a seat and the bartender quickly faced me.
"What would you like?" He asked me tiredly. I could tell he's been having a bad day, with his glasses almost slipping down off of his nose and his shirt was stained with multiple liquids.
"What are the options?" I asked back.
He fixed his glasses and studied me for a second, then grinned. "I've never seen you before, you must be someone new?" He guessed, which I replied by shrugging.
"Thank god, you're not one of those bastard elves or cocky werewolves." He relieved.
I cleared my throat and he widened his eyes. "Right, Right. I'm so sorry!" He smiled apologetically as he fixed his tie and straightened his dark waistcoat.
He grabbed a thick book from under the counter and began to read the list of drinks.
"Which one would you like?"
I grinned playfully. "Make your own concoction."
The guy shot me a look of horror and gulped nervously. To which I found funny.
"A-Alright." He said as he scratched the back of his neck and turned his back.
I narrowed my eyes and took this limited time to examine him.
I could tell he was inexperienced by the way he clumsily held the ingredients and moved around with wobbly legs. Perhaps he's been drinking too.
His arms weren't bulky nor were they skinny. I'd say he wasn't in the military nor was he in one of those intelligence services.
But what concerned me was the shit amount of things he was adding.
At one point, I could've sworn he added a cactus in it. I didn't go to culinary school nor paid too much attention in my chemistry class, but something tells me that he has gotta be violating some kind of FDA regulation and Scientific rule with the shit amount of nasty things he was adding.
Maybe I've bitten off more than I can chew.
When he was finished, he faced me again and presented me with the vile concoction he has made.
It had a purplish color, which I eyed cautiously.
"I added some dragonfruit, for the texture." He smiled. "I figured you were the guy who liked rough things." He said casually which made me choke on my own spit.
He offered me water and gave me one of his apologetic looks once again. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't realize how wrong that sounds. I didn't mean to kink offend or kink shame you!" He blurted out frantically. "What am I saying."He muttered to himself. "I'm sorry sir, I have this habit to ramble and talk without thinking too much." He admitted as he gave me an apologetic look again.
Tch, just like that annoying incubus. Always being apologetic.
Only if he was an asshole, I wouldn't be feeling like shit for being harsh to him.
Why did I even do that to Leon? I don't know, I just felt like it.
I felt like Pooja with the way I snapped. Yes, Rivaleon was totally dying for it.
Or maybe I was going nuts, being isolated on this island was pissing me off, it'd be better if I was alone.
I was pulled out from my thoughts by an older woman's voice.
"That's enough. Leauless, I'll take over from here." The woman with elongated ears and elven features spoke.
"Y-Yes ma'am!" The guy, who I assumed was Leauless squeaked out and left us. Giving me one last apologetic look.
"Arkyn Von Vylerrith." The older woman called me as she took a seat beside me.
Gritting my teeth, I forced out a smile. I wasn't even married to RIvaleon, yet.
"My name is Genevieveé. I'm an elf, in charge of protecting this island." She introduced herself, offering her saggy hand to which I shook firmly.
If this was another old person, I'd be a whole lot kinder. But, something about her feels off.
Or maybe it's me? Ever since we've landed here, I began to feel irritated and bothered. Not in a sexual way.
"I'm guessing you've heard of the things that are bound to happen here?" She asked, and I answered by nodding.
"We need all the capable hands we can find." She started, pulling a gun out from her purse. "It's enchanted with homing magic." She continued, sliding the gun towards me but I stopped her sliding hand midway.
"You're all nuts. If you think I'm going to stay he-"
"You will stay here." She said, her eyes giving me a long cold icy glare. "This is the safest option you have, go out there and you will be devoured by werewolves and ghouls."
I only kept quiet and accepted the gun.
"Good." Taking a cigarette, she lit it and began to smoke.
So much for caretakers of nature.
"I know things are rocky with you and your soulmate."
I shot her a glare and she only shrugged it off.
"But-"
"I'm not planning on staying."
"I know you won't. But I know that you won't leave him either." She replied, shooting me a grin.
She let out a chuckle. "Jeez, Just like your father, you're one stubborn asshole." She said, ruffling my blond hair.
I narrowed my eyes at her. "How did you know him?"
"Gervign and I worked together for some time." I let out a snort, quickly catching up as to what she was saying.
Even though I was disturbed at the possibility that she could be my mother.
"Listen. When it comes to demons, only a handful are chosen to have soulmates. Rumour has it that Satan doesn't even have one! As well as the 7 melancholic commanders."
"Guilt-tripping me eh?"
"I'm making you realize what you can lose." She gave me a look of sadness. "Even if you reject him, the connection will never go away. And, the pain will be unbearable."
I raise my eyebrow at her. God, so many people are turning so sappy.
"I'm pretty sure I can handle it. If I couldn't then I won't be alive today."
"You only survived because you didn't know what was love before." She shot back. "It's true that love's weakness. But you can't deny that being weak is what makes us strong."
"What are you trying to achieve here. Woman?" I asked with hostility.
"If that incubus falls for someone else, you'll also feel the same. Except, while he falls at someone else, you'll fall with no one in particular. Then the sadness comes next until it's too much that you won't want to survive anymore as long as he was living with someone else." She said, looking directly at me.
I couldn't help but feel more and more irritated. Something about her and this damned island was riling me up.
"I don't know what your deal is. But I didn't fight for this long just for an Incubus to claim me and get to decide what the hell I should do with my life!" By this point, I was yelling. Earning the stares and occasional glares from the public.
Noticing this, she stood up. But not before butting in one more advice. "It's true that people are replaceable. But, not everyone is as incomparable to the ones you lost." She said, walking away from me.
"Mistakes are forgivable, not learning from them is not." With that, she left completely.
Man, that was like a kick to the balls.
