Episode 5

Flashback

For the next couple of days, Sophia and I kept in touch over the phone. She asked what I had planned for my 29th birthday and suggested spending it together. I still remember the chilly Friday in March, four days after we had met for the first time at the American party. I wore a dark brown suit with a tanned shirt and looked quite dapper. I hoped she would think the same.

As I waited anxiously outside her building I tried to recall the last time I had been on a date. It is when that it hit me. I didn't clearly remember what she looked like! It had been fairly dark at the party, not to mention I had been drinking. What if she didn't look like what I pictured? At that very moment, I saw her petite frame walk through the glass lobby doors and I noticed her big, captivating smile. Her long straight hair bounced as she descended the stairs in her black knee high leather boots. She turned to me and reached up yo give me a hug, simultaneously putting all my fears to rest.

While we waited for the doors to open for the recording of our friends show, our hands met and our fingers interlocked. We both felt a feverish nervousness and excitement. After the show, we proceeded to a bar and it was there, she began to open up and share what was important to her. She Expressed her goals, her family and the loss of those close to her. She allowed herself to be vulnerable with me as tears rolled down her soft cheeks.

People inside the bar strolled in and out of the drab travern but left us alone in our little world at the end of the bar. We continued to talk and laugh about different topics and time raced by as she enjoyed her drinks. At one point I had stopped paying attention to what she was saying and focused on summoning up enough courage. Then in an instant, while she was in mid-sentence, I leaned forward and kissed her briefly on the lips. When I pulled away, we were faced with a few moments of stunned silence. Apologizing I told her I couldn't help it. She smiled and leaned in.

That evening, we found ourselves at the restaurant. The mood was perfect; dim light, candles, a thin crowd and numerous vacant sofas waiting for our arrival. The exchange of affection continued as we were lost in one another. Her indescribable kiss had me captivated, and yearning for more. Never had a kiss felt so good, so hypnotic, so right. I'd later discover that I'd never tire of her kiss and it's magic never faded. The passion between us would only intensify with time.

The waitress hesitantly interrupted our romance by placing our dinner on the table in front of us. Sophia leaned forward sticking her fork into the streamer. Brought it to her lips and blew. She turned and smiled, as she fed me the first bite. The flames flickered all around us and I thought to myself, 'She's the one'.
