Episode 2

“Hmm….it’s

already 5:30AM.” I said after stopping the alarm clock. Yes, I wake up at half

past five that is what my grandparents call discipline. After waking up, I went

to the rooftop for doing some workout, then few yogasanas and meditation. The

view of the sky at this time is the best and I enjoy watching it. At nearly 6:45AM,

I went back to my room, brushed my teeth, and had a shower. Just then, my

sister Riya came in yelling at me “Tami! When will you stop using my shower gel?

Can’t you use your own things to shower or is that you lack anything???” I knew

this would happen the time I took her gel. It is not something new for us to

fight over petty things; after all, she got sense in choosing good flavor. Riya

is again pissed over this dumb gel, “Uh come on baby we are sisters. What is

the matter in sharing a shower gel? Not like, I used your boyfriend! > <  ““Chit! I wish we were not sisters.”

Riya is trying hard to show disgust on her but fail miserably. “Ouch! That

hurts.” I held the left side of my chest dramatically to fake pain. “Come on

Tami as though you got hurt by me.” Saying this she gave a tight slap over my

heart. “Ahh!!! What kind of sister are you? Now that really hurts.” I was

rubbing my sore chest all the way to the dining room. While suddenly, my

grandpa appeared in front me from in thin air. “What time is it Tami darling?” I

think this old man has some kind of tracker placed in me, whenever I am alone

he kills me stupid and gives sh***y lectures. What kind of karma did I do in my

previous life to receive these kinds of punishments in this life? “Umm…. a quarter

to eight…...”

“Brilliant,

then isn’t it already morning?”

“Of course…oops,

GOOD MORNING THATHA!”

“Kids these

days have no discipline at all. Especially you are a girl, discipline is necessary.

In those days, when I was studying in my school, students were given beating if

they don’t wish the teachers or any elders.”

“Then isn’t that

called child abuse?” I mumbled.

“See, kids

of this generation only know to ask such stupid question. We respected our

teachers, there also is a saying ‘teachers are god’, but look at you youngsters

do not even know what respect is. I do not know what will happen if you get

married like this. What will your in-laws think of us? This may even spoil the

family’s reputation and mine for being the head of the family…………………….”

‘What did I do

now? I did not wish immediately. Why is he talking about respect, family

reputation and all those bul8888t…...when would life be the way I wish it to

be. I hate being stereotypical’ While thinking all these I saw my dad entering.

Without any second thought, I asked my dad, “Appa what is the time now?”My

grandpa got back to his senses.

“Oh it will

get late if you don’t have breakfast now Tami.” Grandpa said slowly realizing

the time. I ran far away from him what if he calls me back to give another

lecture and ‘Thank god for sending dad on the right time, else my eardrums

would get clotted with blood.’ Thinking this I went inside the kitchen.

“Amma, where

is my food? Get it here quickly.”

“Children of

your age are cooking their own breakfast. Look at you grown up girl still

behaving like small kid. Can’t you at least get it from the island? Athai (referring

mother in law) enough of spoiling these two girls.”

“Come on Maha,

my two granddaughters are still like babies. I am happy to do their basic

necessities.”

“As you wish

athai. Hope their future in-laws are like you.”

“Amma,

enough. Patti I will do my work by myself in future so that amma will stop

spouting nonsense.” Mom flicked my forehead for talking a lot and that is when

Riya came in, “Hey jumbo it is already fifteen minutes past eight and you are

still eating like pig.” Since it is weekend, only a few classes have working

day and not the entire school.

“Oh my god! Bye

amma, appa, patti, thatha, Riya, walls, doors, windows...”

“Tami finish

telling your prayer only then you can go.” Mom got me from behind.

“Here Tami

have the Prasad.” Grandma slightly rubbed a white powder on my forehead,

believing that can protect me from evil things around me. After everything, I hurriedly

went to school reaching just on time.

WHAT THEY CALL IS SPIRIT BUT I CALL IT SMOKE.
