Chapter 17 - The Mistake

While I played with the children, Hiroto fell onto the wooden porch, exhausted from running after the children. I, on the other hand, had more energy than the children and quickly tired them out. Unconsciously, the whole period of break that he took... he only looked at me. My smile was something beautiful that needed to be treasured.

After that, the children were so exhausted that they retired to bed for an early night. Hiroto waited outside of the huge room where I tucked Misa in and started to sing her a nursery rhyme. My heavenly voice enchanted Hiroto, sucking him in to a point of no return. I was like a siren and my affection was like a burning fire. It would scald whoever dared to touch it.

As I finished and kissed Misa good night, I got up and gently walked towards the door, which I carefully closed it in order to not wake up the children. I then turned towards Hiroto without looking into his eyes, smiling. "I really enjoyed playing with those kids. They are as lively and pure as-"

Suddenly, I felt something warm against my lips. The sensation was familiar, but without the same warmth. I opened my eyes wide when I realised that Hiroto was kissing me. It was an pure and innocent kiss, just like the children next door. I couldn't believe this... what was happening?

Then, he opened his eyes and realised what he was doing. He pushed me away and blushed, turning his head away. "I-I'm sorry, I don't know what overcame me... oh my gosh, I just kissed Lord Reo's wife! What can I do now? The only option is to cut off my lips and sew my mouth shut!" Grabbing his sword, I quickly stopped him.

"You lost balance." He shook his head. "No, I-" "You. Lost. Balance. End of. Now, let's head back before Reo goes on a rampage trying to find me." As I turned the corner however, my cheeks flared up red. What is wrong with the people in this era and surprise kisses? Reo's lips felt warmer than Hiroto's... NO! I shouldn't be thinking about him at all. That jerk...

As soon as I arrived back to my manor, I then saw Reo waiting on my bed. Seeing me, his expression lit up like a lamp at night and he ran towards me, taking me into his arms. "Mimi, you came back!" I've got no reason to run anymore, dummy. All of my stuff is here anyway. Anyway, that isn't the point!

I pulled his ear angrily and shouted right into it "What are you doing in my manor? Were you snooping through my things again?" His guilty face made it easy to make a verdict on that. I pulled his cheek and frowned. "Stop going through my stuff, okay?" He frowned. "But you want to leave this place, don't you? You want to go back to the town that you came from. I won't allow it!"

Grabbing me, he took me into a tight hug and then, gave me a quick kiss. He's... seriously annoying sometimes. "Reo, I'm not going anywhere until I can find the equation to return." He whimpered "And how long is that going to take?" I pondered. "Ten to fifteen years, give or take." His eyes sparkled as he threw his arms around me. "Great... I've got fifteen years to woo you into loving me. It's not impossible... don't scare me like that, I thought that I was going to lose you forever."

He's persistent... I'll give him that. But also, ten years will be enough time for me to explore this beautiful new world in history and time, take notes, and then come straight back. I won't fall in love. Why am I so certain? Well, my heart was simply shattered beyond repair long ago.
