Chapter 15 - Romantic Time

Immediately upon arriving, Reo looked around the stall and so did I. These handmade hairpins, necklaces and pendants... they were beautifully crafted. I looked up and smiled at the old lady tending the store. "You are very talented. May I ask how long it takes to make one of these?" She smiled sweetly and put her hand onto my cheek.

"You are blessed by the divine power. Your aura guarantees a safe passage to the afterlife!" Reo snorted. "I'm sure that you tell that to all of your female customers..." She grinned. "... and your fertility month has begun. Your body seems spiritually ready for pregnancy."

Reo's eyes glistened. "Tell me more!" I chuckled and nudged him in the chest. "Leave the poor woman alone! If you don't mind me asking, which hairpin would you recommend for me? I'd like to start wearing one." She smiled and took a box from underneath a counter and slowly opened it. What was inside made my heart stop.

A beautiful silver hairpin with blue gems pending from the side was produced to me, my heart immediately falling in love with it. It was... beautiful to say the least. I picked it up and my eyes suddenly gained a little more colour in Reo's eyes. He then slammed money down onto the counter. "I don't care how much it costs. Sell that hairpin to me."

She shook her head and smiled. "Unfortunately, that hairpin was made as my gift to the new Lady Takahashi. I cannot give it to just anyone. However, if you were to tell me that you were indeed the beautiful and kind Lady Takahashi, I'd give it to you free of charge." Is she trying to trick me? Or test me...

"She doesn't need to say it. In my heart, she's already my wife." He then took off his veil and smiled. "My wife will be taking that hairpin now. After all, she deserves to be spoilt. Especially by me." The old woman smiled and then sat back down onto her seat.

"Approach, child. Let me see your face." I did what she asked me to do and approached her slowly. She pulled off my veil and placed her cold hand onto my cheek. "Indeed, the rumours of Lady Takahashi being as beautiful as a lotus and as fierce as a phoenix are true. I'm glad to have seen such beauty in my lifetime. Look after our country, Lady Takahashi... and take care of our Lord."

The old woman had this wise grin on her face that made me think of an owl. Then, Reo took my hair and slowly put it into a messy bun, fastening it with the newly bought hairpin. It wasn't that bad of a bun but I couldn't help but wonder where he learnt how to do up hair like that.

He then smiled and pressed his hand against my cheek affectionately. "As I thought, you look beautiful..." I didn't know if it was the way he said it or the fact that his gentle hands touched my skin... but I felt compelled to look up into his eyes. My cheeks were a little flushed, probably as a result of the warm weather. Somehow, I never truly noticed how beautiful Reo looked while he was smiling.
