Chapter 8 - Lord Perverted

"So... let me get this straight... you've got a wife now?" At a very late war council, Reo Takahashi sat at the top of the room while his attendants laid out on two columns either side of him. A man, as confused as anything, asked Reo the one question that everyone was pressing to ask.

"Yes, I got myself a wife. Her name is Mimi." One of the man then threw a piece of bread at Hiroto and shouted "And you're supposed to be his right hand! You let him get married on a battlefield too? You disappoint everyone here, Hiroto!" One man lingered at the back, leaning against the wall without sitting down.

"Why, I find it quite amusing. This woman, is she up for trade? I could get you a much more beautiful one if you'd prefer, Lord Reo." He smirked and shook his head, drinking his cup of sake all while gazing out of the balcony window. "No, she is quite unique and speaks in a bizarre fashion. I can't quite pin where she comes from..."

Hiroto jumped up and immediately said "I shall go find out who she is right away, My Lord!" Out of the five men in the room, one remained silent. The four other men soon realised why. He was asleep upright, snoring like a bear in hibernation. One man called Arte Shiota, who had thrown the bread towards Hiroto, declared "I suggest that we make her work. It's a wife job to look after this place and it is slowly falling apart, us being men after all."

"You want my sweet wife to clean up after your mess?" He seemed pretty angry at that. Hiroto sighed. "Despite our desperate need for a feminine touch in this castle, Lord Reo's wife is now a princess, whether we like it or not. She must be seen as such and therefore cannot perform the tasks of a simpleton maid." Lord Reo crossed his hands and frowned.

"Also, there is an issue that I must press. How do I get a woman to become infatuated with me?" Chiba Tsubaki, the mysterious man at the back, smirked. "May I suggest putting her into a state of delirium for a month and then-" "No, a way to a woman's heart is by giving her gifts. Hairpins, clothes, books, fabric and so forth." Hiroto added, suddenly feeling relieved that Lord Reo didn't listen to Chiba's poisonous advice.

Edamura Sawano suddenly awoke, looking around. "What are we talking about again?" Hiroto sighed. "You've been staying up writing reports again, haven't you? Lord Reo needs a way to capture his wife's heart!" He then smiled sweetly. "Why don't you spend some time with her, go out shopping and bond with her? Also, invite her for dinner every night."

For one, his advice was pretty credible. Lord Reo was about to say something when a man ran through the door. "M-My Lord! It's terrible, the guest house out back is on fire!" All the warlords rose up as the scent of smoke and fire hit their noses. "And it's the Princess... she was seen around that area." Lord Reo's eyes tensed as he got up and ran out of the door.

While people looked the smoke coming out of the terracotta roof tiles, Lord Reo ran right into the house despite Hiroto's plea. Inside however, he only saw a single object on the floor that was emitted smoke. There was no fire, there was nothing! It was just another one of my witchcraft tricks!

Throwing the huge pellet out of the window, he then walked out of the door, furious. "Where is my wife? Find her but don't dare touch her!"

Meanwhile, I started to walk towards the main gate, smirking. A bundle on my back filled with jewellery and other expensive objects were on my back. So easy, I bet that they are sitting like ducks next to a place where fire isn't even present. Meanwhile, I get to walk out of the palace a free woman. Sayanora, Lord Perverted Reo!

Then, an arrow shot through the sky and pierced the wall right next to my head. Instead of looking panicked, I turned my head and saw a man who I had never met before. Probably one of Lord Pervert's underlings. "So you must be Lord Reo's new wife. Indeed, that trick with the smoke was impressive but I had a feeling that you weren't that dumb." Seems like I've met my match!
