Chapter 2 - The Right Formula

Sleep slowly covered my eyes as I nearly fell asleep on my keyboard. I still needed to test out 65 different more combinations, I couldn't fall asleep now! Caffeine, that is what I need! I ran towards my kitchen and plugged in my broken coffee machine. As I did that, there was a huge blackout. I then shouted at the top of my lungs "WHY IS THIS HOUSE FALLING APART? Geez, you could have left me a better place, Mum and Dad."

At that very moment, a spark lit up the machine. The orbs inside of the sphere spun around as my eyes went wild. It's working, but where it is getting its energy from? At that very moment, Tokyo suddenly blacked out. Some people saw sparks travelling across the sky towards the antenna in my house as my machine turned around and around.

It's working... my time machine is working! I then slowly saw the walls around me turn into dust. What was going on... this is too much power! Then, I looked down and saw my hands. I was turning to dust too. The pain was numbing, it was like I was getting turned into cotton candy. I'd be sweeter, of course, but that wasn't the point. I had done it... had I really created a time machine?

At the very moment that I completely disappeared, and so did my house, I saw a flash of bright light and then nothing. When I opened my eyelids, I felt numb. My mouth barely wanted to move and I felt terribly groggy. What's going on here? As I picked myself up, I looked around. I'm still in my house, with my papers of research and my... of gosh, my time machine!

I sunk to my knees again as I saw the glass sphere had broke. My life's work... all gone! I whimpered, picking up the pieces of the sphere while sobbing a little. This isn't fair... "Kill the enemy!" Who was that shouting? No one comes around here and I don't believe that I have any neighbours for miles. As I reached my door, I opened and my eyes went wide. Men in old Japanese armour were fighting each other with swords. I could hear the sounds of old-fashioned muskets in the background too.

I had travelled back in time! I had done it! I then jumped into the air, thrilled. "Yes! Yes, I did it! I-" An arrow was then shot and skimmed inches from my cheek, embedding into my wall at the back of the house. "Maybe... maybe I should just close my door and hope for the best that I don't **die **here without knowing anything about where I am." Just as I went to close the door, I then saw someone who seemed in trouble. He was surrounded by soldiers who were about to throw him off of his horse.

I could just hide away... but my conscious couldn't allow it if I let him die. I rummaged around my house and grabbed chemicals and powders which were lying around on my shelves. I grabbed one of my inventions and stuffed the two compartments. I then closed it up and took a lighter, lighting the fuse. I then ran and threw the device out of my opened door right into the middle of the soldiers surrounding it.

Immediately, a huge explosion occurred, sending the soldiers in a right fright. They ran away, scared out of their minds until I ran towards the man on the horse. I've got 30 seconds... 30 seconds to save this man. His horse, having thrown him onto the ground, made him feel disoriented. I reached out and grabbed his hand. "Hurry up! In 30 seconds, that bomb is going to give a phreatic explosion! Get up and come with me!"
