Chapter 13 - Display Of Undying Affection

It's been a week since the exams took place. Many people came up to me, begging me to pick them again for the tutoring after their results came back. Others, who's friends had lent them my notes, came begging me to pick them as well. Soon, my schedule was filled with orders and I even had to arrange to come into school on alternate Saturdays to keep up with it all.

Then, the results came. At break, everyone ran to the board to see their ranking in the year. After all, the top 10 students got to go to the school's private hot spring resort in Kyoto. I glanced at the top of the board and saw my name on the number one spot. I smiled to myself proudly before glancing down and I lost all of the breath in my lungs. W-What was Eric Jackson doing on second place?

Others couldn't believe it either. Then, a group of boys walked up to me and smiled. "Hey, Anna. Congrats on taking first place! Us and some other girls were going to the amusement park tomorrow. Want to join us?" Then, a pair of arms went around me and I smelt that sweet aroma again. "Sorry, but Anna is all mine tomorrow!"

Eric... I turned around, my eyes looking into his. How on earth did he get second place? He then grinned and produced his papers. "A's in everything! Guess that I win!" I can't believe this... this is insane. He was getting E's at the start of the year, so how did he get A's all of a sudden?

"Miss Taylor, please report to the Headmaster's office immediately." Gosh, was I in trouble? I then started to walk towards his office and the moment I turned the corner, Eric pushed me against the wall, stealing a kiss from my lips.

Backing away, he grinned. "That's 12 hours that I have all to myself. Tomorrow, I'm going to meet you outside your house. Dress up cute, because we're going on a date!"

He then let me go and I quickly ran around the corner, my cheeks burning. A date? No, he couldn't mean it like that... or could he? No, Anna, stay strong! Discard these feelings that you have for him. It's just 12 hours... I can last that long. As I entered the Headmaster's office, I froze as I saw a man sitting in a chair. He smiled at my arrival and got up, extending a hand out to me.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Taylor. I'm Young Master Jackson's father's assistant." I shook his hand and nodded, smiling. "I'm Anna Taylor, a pleasure." I then looked towards the Headmaster for answers when the man produced a cheque made out for 192 thousand. My mind went blank at that moment. I forgot... about the money for a second. "Master Jackson asked me to hand deliver this cheque to you. And to thank you personally for teaching his good-for-nothing son to study."

I shook my head and smiled. "Eric isn't a good-for-nothing. He's actually really smart, he just needs that push to study." The Headmaster rubbed his hands, grinning. "Miss Taylor helps a lot of our students on campus. She's one of our scholarship students. I brought her to this school in order to help the students her own age. And here is the money for the other students, coming out at 24 thousand 430."

If I do the math correctly, that means that in one half-term exam, I won... 216 thousand and 430. I could feel my legs about to faint. All of that hard work became worth it! "Thank you, Sir. I'll continue helping the students as much as I can." He smiled and then handed me a brochure of the hot springs.

"Your scholarship also covers the cost of trips like these. The top ten students depart next week during half term. Young Mater Jackson is a part of that group as well!" The man nodded. "The amount will be wired to you shortly. Thank you again, Miss Taylor." I then shot him a cute smile. "Of course! I'm glad that Eric is improving!"
