Chapter 11 - Mixed Signals

"So, let me get this straight..." The Headmaster of Yume High School stared at me deeply. "You want to take on more students? I can't refuse that request but are you sure? You are only a child and you already stay two hours after school every day to tutor multiple students." I smiled. "Money is getting tighter and my house is about to fall apart. There are some plumbing issues and I really need to sort it out. Even if it is only for this month, I'd like to take on more responsibility."

The Headmaster looked at me and sighed. He then handed me a stack of applications. "Here are people who have applied for you as their tutor. Our school offers the best tutoring services yet your students reached higher levels than the other students who used our teachers as tutors. Your results as truly promising, Miss Taylor. I'm glad to have scouted you out. Anyway, here is your money for this month's exam. 2860, all accounted for."

It's been a month since Eric and I slept together last. Per usual, he had left my house by morning, and has only crossed paths with me once or twice. But mostly, he ignores me and goes on with his life. I then flicked through the applications and my heart skipped a beat when I saw Eric was in the pile too. "Oh, Master Jackson's father requested for us to tutor his son. However, no matter who we arrange it with, he never shows up." I then looked down and my eyes went wide.

Four... Four thousand per rank-up grade!?!?!?!?!?" And his current grade is an F in all subjects. That means, if there are 12 subjects, and he gets pass in all of them, I'd get... 96 thousand! I slammed the application down on the desk, grinning from ear to ear. "I'll take him!" The Headmaster then shivered at the application.

"Are you sure, Miss Taylor. Eric is an unruly boy and if you are too persistent..." I smiled. I don't have a worry in my mind. "Don't worry about me, Sir. I'll be fine! I'll get Eric Jackson passing grades in each subject, I promise!" And that is how I could attempted to score a huge payday and at the same time get to talk with Eric.

Walking down the corridor with my new applicants in my hand, I went to their classroom to give them their schedule. As I walked into the first room, I walked towards a girl's desk and smiled as I handed her my schedule. "Hi there! When does it suit you for tutoring?" After I travelled around the classrooms, my schedule started to fill up more and more. It's not like I need so many hours of free time per night. I don't have anything to do anyway.

I saved the best for last. During lunch, I headed up to the room. I gripped my homemade lunch in hand, and his application in the other. As I opened the door, I saw him in his usual spot. Lying across the ground, an arm over his eyes. I smiled and knelt besides him. He opened his eyes and saw me, jumping up, shocked. I then opened my lunch in front of him and pushed it towards him.

"In exchange for a homemade lunch, would you let me tutor you?" I then handed him my schedule and his application.

He then looked at my schedule, then at me. My eyes were sparkling, making me too cute to resist. "Fine." Really? I'm going to have enough to get through college and university at this rate! And maybe buy a new house too! But then, he circled his hands around my waist and pulled me into his arms. "But a lunch won't be enough. I accept all kinds of payments." Gosh, what had I gotten myself into?
