Chapter 9 - Guilt Or Something Else

After that, gifts were frequent. Sometimes they were really rare to find textbooks which were made by tutors of really rich people. They cost a fortune to get their hands on. It wasn't only textbooks. He once gave me a whole new smartphone! The newest model!

I kept on refusing his gifts but he kept on giving them to me. He insisted I take them, that he couldn't return them anyway and they'd go to the bin. Our relationship became complicated after we slept together. When he had a gift for me, he'd always kiss me, as if he wanted to take a payment.

I learned to love his kisses, they were so beautiful and made me smell his fresh mint scent all over again. He always met me in front of my house and sometimes came in. We didn't so anything other than talk and have tea, though. It was as if he was abstaining from doing me over again.

Then, one day, I walked home when I saw builders in front of my house. "Um, excuse me? Is there a problem?" The man shook his head. "No, not at all Miss. I'm here to fix up your house. Seems like the window seals are no more. And the front and back door keyholes are nearly rusted shut. It'll be a day's work but don't worry!"

"By curiousity, who sent for you?" He then took out his clipboard and smiled. "An Eric Jackson. He paid us in advance, not something a client normally does but okay. Anyway, we'll be done soon!" He did this... putting in a new door and seals on windows isn't cheap.

I took a glimpse at the bill and my eyes went wide. He spent that much on me? As soon as the builders left me with a brand new front and back door, as well as seals on my windows, I buried myself under the sheets.

I felt so ashamed for some reason. He keeps on getting me these gifts and expensive things... I then took out my phone and looked at the top number inside of it. I clicked on Eric and it started to ring.

"Hello?" "This is the first time you took the initiative to call me. Did the builders come?" "Yeah, about that... the bill was way too expensive! I can't ask you to pay for it!" He chuckled. "I get more for my weekly allowance, don't sweat it. Besides, I hardly spend it so I have a lot of backlog."

I remained silent. "Anna?" I bit my bottom lip. "Eric... why are you doing all of this for me? Is it because you pity me?" He then remained silent. "Look out of your window."

I ran towards my window and gasped. There he was, standing outside, looking as cool as ever. I blushed as I looked at what he was carrying. Roses...

Why... why are you inserting yourself into my life? If I gain these forbidden feelings for you... and you leave me, I don't know what I'd do.
