The bass thumped through the floor of the exclusive club, but Jeon Jungkook barely noticed. He was used to noise, to lights, to people clamoring for his attention. What he wasn’t used to—was her.

She moved like time bent for her. Min Aera.

Tall. Elegant. Forty, though she wore it like royalty.

“Jeon Jungkook,” he said, holding out his hand.

“Aera,” she replied, her voice low and unbothered. “I know who you are.”

He smirked. “Everyone does.”

“But I don’t care.”

That stopped him. That intrigued him. And just like that, something began.

The divorce shattered her world, and being taken away from her father by her mother left her feeling angry, hurt, and betrayed.

Now, Aera is taking Y/N to meet Jungkook for the first time — her soon-to-be stepfather.  of the life she never asked for.

“Why are you doing this to me?” Min Y/N’s voice cracked as she shoved another sweater into the suitcase. “I don’t want to go.”

“Y/N, please,” Aera sighed, her hands tightening around the edge of the doorway. “Just meet him. He’s going to be a part of our lives.”

“I didn’t ask for this!” Y/N snapped, eyes blazing. “I wanted my dad. Not some rich stranger in a penthouse.”

Aera knelt beside her, voice trembling. “You think I wanted any of this? The divorce? Watching you cry yourself to sleep? I’m trying to fix things.”

Y/N jerked away. “You’re not fixing anything. You’re replacing dad.”

Jungkook is taken aback when he sees Y/N; her presence stirs something unexpected in him. Y/N, too, feels an unexplainable tension, but it’s mixed with resentment. In her eyes, Jungkook is part of the reason she lost her family — a symbol

“Y/N, this is Jungkook. I know this is a lot, but I really want you two to get along.”

[Jungkook] (stands up from the sofa, eyes locked on Y/N for a brief moment before composing himself)

“Hey, Y/N. I’ve heard a lot about you. It’s nice to finally meet you.”

[Y/N] (crosses her arms, keeping her tone cold)

“Wish I could say the same.”

[Min Aera] (glares slightly at Y/N)

“Y/N…”

[Jungkook] (raises a hand gently)

“It’s okay. She has every right to be upset.”
