Chapter 1

Monday 18th March, 2024.

Annoyingly bright rays of sunlight creeped into my room filling it with golden hues, although the morning sun can be beautiful, I despise it. I much prefer the moonlight and the dark blue sky.

I rolled over and grabbed my phone to check the time, 7:24am. Damn, guess I gotta hurry this morning, I took out something to put on and walked to the bathroom to start getting ready.

7:40am, I could've finished faster, however, I needed to change outfits. I didn't want to look like I had just woken up and threw something on, even though that's exactly what I did.

Quickly, I made my way downstairs to see a bowl of cereal with strawberries in it and a note next to it saying "Have a good day at school, I'll be a little late today - Love Mom" she always managed to incorporate my favorite foods into things and I loved her for it. I ate half of my breakfast and put the rest in the fridge for later.

7:47am, okay just you know 13 minutes to run 4 blocks to school aha...no problem you can do this Olivia. I put on my slightly dirty white sneakers, locked the door with the keys behind me and made my way to school.

8:02am, I definitely need to start working out or something because there's no way that I'm still late after how fast I was running. On the bright side at least, the hallways are mostly clear, I can actually see where I'm going for once and this morning, I have...oh looks like it's English nice, I can sleep through that one.

I picked up my textbooks for the rest of the day and headed on my way to my first class. 8:28am, I was rudely awakened by uhh...oh, this guy. A few weeks ago, there was a transfer student his name is Kade Harper, I believe they said he transferred because he was "too smart" for the other classes, ha yeah right too smart my ass.

I glared at him for the rude awakening, looked away, took a deep breath and got up. I calmly said, "Thanks for waking me up...dipshit." The last part much quieter than the rest but he didn't reply, only looked at me as if he had seen his maker or something.

I waved my hand in front of him and asked, "Hey are you good?" He blinked a few times and looked away for a second. At that moment I could have sworn his cheeks had turned red but when he looked back again his face was normal, weird maybe I'm seeing things.

8:33am, damn I'm late for my next class, "Look if you've got nothing to say I have my next class to get to so if you'll excuse me." I walked around him and as I was about to walk off, I felt a hand around my wrist. I looked back at him, "Look could you tutor me in English? I'm not adjusting well to the class and I'd really appreciate it if you could help me."

I looked down at my wrist and his hand was still wrapped around it. He seemed to notice what I was looking at and removed his hand.

I don't know if I'm the right person he should be asking for help from but it was worth a shot I guess, "Okay but let's discuss the meeting place and time later, shall we? We're late for class right now and I would rather not be called into the principal's office today." He nodded his head and quietly followed me out of the room.

8:36am, I sat down and rested my head on my desk and looked out the window. The weather is quite nice today, normally it's raining but thankfully the skies clear today. I turned to face the other side and saw him again.

I never noticed how his face was shaped so symmetrical and how clear his skin was or even how when the sun hits it just right you see the ocean in his eyes. What the hell am I even thinking about, get those weird thoughts out of your head Olivia, he's not even that good looking. I rested my head face down and slowly zoned out.

8:58am, I got up stretched and grabbed my books and headed to my next class. Today was a slow day that's for sure because by the time lunchtime rolled around, I was ready to go home and sleep the day away but my mom wouldn't think too kindly to hearing her daughter leaving half-day for no apparent reason.

I made my way over to a table by the window where people rarely sit, it's my go to seat. Not even 2 seconds into eating when someone sat right next to me.

I glanced to my side to see him again, I swallowed the food I had been chewing and said, "Let me guess you're here to talk about the tutoring." he nodded his head and responded with, "How about Wednesdays and Thursdays?" I guess he's trying to be considerate by not saying Monday or Friday, "Alright that's no problem, would 5 to 7 work for you after school?" I asked while sneaking a few bites of my burger.

He kept staring at me then looked away before answering my question, "Yeah that works but would you be open to changing 7 to 8? I need all the help I can get." I stopped what I was doing and said, "Uhh...that's a bit late but I guess that works, it's not like I have anything important to be doing at that hour."

I finished my meal and looked at the paper with his number he had given me right before he ran off claiming he needed to use the bathroom, definitely TMI. I typed in his number on my phone and saved him under "Tutoring Kid".

As soon as I had finished the bell rang so I made my way to my next class, only 3 more classes then I could go home and be free yesss.

Wednesday 20th March, 2024.

I had just finished taking a shower when the doorbell rang, I wrapped a towel around myself and let out a silent curse when I checked the time, 5:10pm. I didn't even realize how long I was in the shower; all I knew was it felt really relaxing.

Unfortunately, it was time to begin tutoring and without realizing it in a few hours I would regret accepting this dumb request. I made my way downstairs to open the door which revealed Kade in a very casual look, baggy jeans and a white vest under a patterned shirt. He didn't look half bad; my only issue is that he's late and still somehow early at the same time.

I glanced down at myself then back up at him and chuckled while inviting him inside.

Within a few minutes I came back downstairs fully dressed to find him sitting patiently where I left him. "Did you bring all the books I mentioned?" I asked while taking a seat next to him, "Yes ma'am they were a lot to carry, are you sure we need all of these books?" I looked him in his eyes and said, "If you plan on passing English then we do" he smiled weakly and simply unpacked the books onto the coffee table.

Before I had realized it was already 7:55pm, "Well I think we got a good start today, let's call it a day then." I said to him as I got up and stretched.

He looked at me and for a moment there was a hint of sadness in his face almost as if he was hurt, then the look on his face changed to a more neutral one, "Alright I agree time to wrap up and again I really appreciate the help, I guess I'll see you at school tomorrow." he said with a soft tone.

For some reason I felt weird about him leaving right now and without a second thought the next few words came out of my mouth, "You should stay for dinner...I mean if you want to of course." He looked a bit taken aback at the suggestion and rubbed his neck before responding, "As long as you're okay with me staying a little longer, I don't mind joining you."

He finished packing away his stuff before joining me at the dining table, the rest of the night was a blur but all I remember was he left at 9:32pm instead of 8pm like we had originally agreed and that was something I couldn't let happen again.

Thursday 21st March, 2024.

It was another boring day at school; I had to tutor Kade again today and I was dreading it right now. Our first session was good, really good actually and that was a problem. I'm not supposed to be enjoying tutoring him but for some strange reason I did enjoy it.

12:30pm, praise the heavens for lunchtime being somewhat early in the day because I'm starving. I took a seat by the window and started eating.

My lunch today was chicken nuggets and fries and in 3, 2, 1... "Are you going to sit with me every day?" I said without looking around. He answered without hesitation, "If you don't like it, I can leave, I just thought you could use a friend."

I glared at him and brought my face slightly closer to his then I pulled away, "Why do you think I could use a friend exactly?" When my eyes landed on him again his face was slightly red but he didn't look away instead he said, "Well maybe I just want an excuse to be your friend then."

I chuckled at the stupidity he just spouted, I guess having one friend wouldn't hurt and if things get too messy, I could always stop tutoring him. I put out my hand and he looked at it confused, "What have you never shook hands with anyone before?" I said with a slight smile on my face, he shakes my hand and says "I look forward to being friends with you, my name's Kade Harper."

Huh who would've guessed his last name was that? Not me. I introduced myself as well, "Likewise and my name's Olivia Darling." I said while watching his reaction. He smiled and squeezed my hand, "You have a pretty name Olivia." I removed my hand from the awkward handshake and looked away.

I waited a few seconds before saying a quiet "Thank you." to him. I then continued eating my lunch seeing as we only have a few minutes left until next period and I refused to be hungry during class again.

4:45pm, I rushed to put on something quick and why am I rushing you might ask because I need the extra time to prepare for Kade's arrival. After agreeing to be friends with him for some reason it feels as though something will change in how we interact and I need to be mentally prepared for it.

4:55pm, I heard a knock on the front door so I jumped up and sprinted to open the door, "Heyy...Kade...you're...a little early." He looked a bit shocked but answered with, "I figured after yesterday I should start reaching a little earlier."

I opened the door wider so he could come inside. He sat down in the living room and took out his books. I walked over to the kitchen and asked him, "Do you want anything to drink?" he looked up at me and said, "Oh if you have any orange juice then I'll take some of that."

I grabbed the bottle out of the fridge and poured some out, I put some ice in as well and made my way to the living room. I sat down and gave him the cup, he took it and drank some, "Thank you, it tastes great, now shall we get started?" he asked while smiling, I smiled back and responded with, "Yes, let's begin then."
