1. The Last Flames

The battlefield burned crimson under a sky torn between fire and shadow. Smoke, scorched earth, and the metallic tang of blood choked the air. Every shout, every clash of elemental magic, reverberated through Lyra’s chest like thunder.

Her Wild Fire flickered feebly at her fingertips. Her limbs trembled with pain, every breath a struggle. The air felt heavy, as if the world itself pressed down on her.

Amid the chaos, she saw them her allies, her friends, her people.

Kael, his sapphire armor bore scorch marks, his sword ablaze with elemental fire, magically linked to hers. His eyes were the same she had known since they were nine locked on hers, filled with love, desperation, and unspoken determination.

“Lyra! Hold on!” Kael’s voice pierced the battlefield. Kieran flanked him, summoning bolts of lightning. Melody surged forward with crashing waves of water, and Cedric lifted Rowan above the debris with a powerful gust of wind.

Even the bodyguards were there, Gareth deflecting arrows, Isla shielding her, Raina and Talon coordinating attacks. All for her.

But the villains were relentless.

From the shadows, Lysandra emerged, her dark illusions twisting like living smoke. Darius followed, blackened flames coiling around him. Their laughter was ice in Lyra’s ears.

“You thought you could defy me?” Lysandra sneered. “And choose him instead? Pathetic. You said no to Kael at twelve, and it was my doing. Your family and friends all turned away from you because of me.”

Pain shot through Lyra’s chest, each word striking deeper than any blade. She remembered the day, the lies, the manipulation. She had said no to Kael, believing them. It had fractured her life, her family’s trust, and the bonds with her friends.

Kael’s eyes burned. “Lyra!! don’t listen to them. I’m here. I’ll never let them harm you.”

The ground erupted in blackened fire. Lyra staggered, blood streaking her face, vision blurring.

“Lyra! Focus! You can control your Wild Fire!” Melody shouted.

“I......I can’t.....” Lyra gasped, her voice weak, her legs threatening to give way. Yet she clenched her fists, summoning the last of her strength. No. I will not die like this. Not without trying.

Her gaze snapped to the villains. “Why? Why manipulate me? Why destroy my life? Why make me say no to Kael?”

Lysandra’s smirk widened. “Because we could. Because power favors the cunning. Because your happiness would have been our failure. You were easy to sway, Lyra, and now you burn for it.”

Darius stepped closer, black flames dancing. “You faltered once, and it cost everything. And yet you still stand. Pathetic.”

Lyra coughed, tasting iron. Her Wild Fire flickered, struggling to remain alive. She fell to her knees, trembling, yet her eyes burned with fury. I said no. I let them manipulate me. I hurt Kael. I hurt everyone I loved, and now I’ll pay them back if there is another life.

Kael surged forward, shouting, “I won’t let you face them alone! Whatever comes, we fight together!”

Lyra’s lips curved into a grim smile, weak but resolute. “I..... I will survive. If there is another life..... I will take my revenge. I will make them pay. I will not falter again.”

The villains lunged, but her friends and allies formed a barrier around her. Melody’s water surged, Kieran’s lightning crackled, Cedric’s wind scattered the dark magic, Rowan’s earth shields stabilized the ground. Even the bodyguards coordinated flawlessly, shielding her from the worst blows.

“If fate gives me another chance, I will not falter again. I will protect Kael. I will protect us all. I will take my revenge.”

The battlefield blurred around her. Darkness threatened to swallow her, but in her heart, one truth burned brighter than any flame if fate granted her another chance, she would rise stronger, protect those she loved, and exact the revenge she had been denied in this life.
