The ride home was silent. Rose sat beside Jimin in the black car, her hands clenched tightly in her lap. Outside, the city lights blurred into streaks of gold and silver, but inside, the air was heavy—filled with the words neither of them dared to speak.
Jimin’s jaw was tight, his eyes fixed on the road ahead though he wasn’t driving. Taehyung sat in the front seat, watching through the rear-view mirror, his sharp gaze shifting between Jimin and Rose.
When they reached the mansion, Rose stepped out hesitantly. She felt small in the grand entrance hall, surrounded by marble floors and endless corridors. Jimin walked ahead without looking back, his silence cutting deeper than any words.
But when Rose’s steps faltered, he stopped. He turned, his eyes softer now.
“You’re safe here,” he said, almost like a command, but his voice wavered with something more vulnerable. “As long as you’re under this roof, no one can hurt you.”
Rose lowered her gaze, her voice trembling. “Safe? Jimin, nothing about today felt safe… Who is he? Why was he after me?”
Jimin stepped closer, his presence wrapping around her like a shield. His hand lifted, hesitated, then finally brushed against her hair. “Don’t ask,” he whispered. “The less you know, the safer you’ll be.”
Rose’s chest tightened at the weight in his voice. He was protecting her—but from what? And why did it feel like he was hiding a storm behind his eyes?
Later that night, Rose stood by the window of the guest room, staring at the moonlit garden. The silence of the mansion was overwhelming, broken only when there was a soft knock.
It was Jimin.
He stepped inside, his usual arrogance replaced with quiet sincerity. In his hands was a small tray—tea, and a plate of her favorite pastries.
“I remembered,” he said simply when she looked at him in surprise. “You used to love these. Back then.”
The memory hit Rose like a gentle wave. Their childhood—running through the fields, laughing until their sides ached, Jimin sneaking pastries for her after dinner. For a moment, the dangerous mafia prince standing before her wasn’t terrifying—he was just Jimin.
She smiled faintly, though her voice was soft. “You still remember…”
“I never forgot,” he replied, his eyes locking with hers.
For a heartbeat, time stood still. The mansion, the mafia, Eunwoo, the danger—everything melted away until it was just the two of them, bound by memories too strong to break.
Meanwhile, in the study, Taehyung poured himself a glass of whiskey, his expression dark. He had seen Eunwoo’s smirk earlier, and it unsettled him.
He muttered under his breath, “This isn’t just about business anymore. He’s after Jimin’s weakness.”
And everyone in the mafia knew—a weakness could get you killed.
