Samuel had absolutely no right to be the good man in this, he didn't only deal with with her tantrums and moods, he also made sure that she was well rested and fed.
"He is s good guy." The old woman who sat next to Samuel said with a wide smile as soon as he left to the bathroom. "Are you not his girlfriend?"
"Ha!" Laura snorted. "Samuel only treats me well because I am not feeling well now but as soon as we set with this stupid flight he would be mean again."
"But you are mean to him all the time even now?" She raised an eyebrow at her. "He is better than you."
Laura was quite offended, even if her words were true. "I will vomit all over you." She threatened the lady she didn't even know her name.
"What are you saying?" Samuel appeared, looking at Laura like she lost her mind. "Don't be ridiculous and don't threaten strangers."
He sat down and scolded her, apologizing to the old woman and giving Laura a book "try to occupy yourself with this."
"You want me to read classics?" Laura almost spat at the book. Samuel just loved classics, Jane Austen, Shakespeare and the lot and she couldn't understand it.
"Oh, I forgot you are not a human with intelligence." He sighed dryly "I should have brought a coloring book at least."
"What did you say?" She retorted. "If I am not a human with intelligence then how did I get a full mark on social studies and you didn't?"
Samuel remained silent for a second then turned to her "how low to use that."
Laura smiled triumphantly "you started it first...." suddenly the plane rocked a bit, Laura gasped.
The pilot spoke on the speakers about shortage of diesel for the plane so another plane will be closing up to fill the tanks so everyone should sit and tie their seat belts.
Laura tried to tie her belt with trembling hands and failing, suddenly she saw his hands, Samuel tied the belts for her and made sure they were in place and rested back on his seat silently.
Laura calmed down a little as she looked at him, something started growing on her making her heart beat faster.
"You have a family in London right?" She asked, eager for a conversation to take her away from the other plane approaching from her window.
"My sister." He answered without looking at her. "Why are you suddenly asking?"
"I am trying to open a conversation so continue talking to me." Laura bit her lower lip and glanced at her window. "The other plane will not destroy ours right?"
He looked at her, closed the window curtains and sat back on his seat. "Things like this happen, don't think you much about it."
"And if we die?" She held the armrest with strength of a gym instructor.
"We will not die." He found a magazine that probably belonged to the lady next to them and asked her to borrow it. She agreed with a wide smile, Samuel gave it to Laura and pointed at a historical building "this is The White Tower at the Tower of London, have you ever been here?"
"Of course no." She shook her head.
"I chose this as our assignment topic, it was built around 1078 AD, under William the Conqueror. What do you think?"
Laura appreciating Samuel tries to lighten her mood smiled, "I thought you would choose the oldest bookshop, was I mistaken?"
"I know about it, Hatchards, found in Piccadilly, 1797 by John Hatchards. I have been there before and it was just as dreamy as I imagined as a child but I didn't think that would interest any of you guys."
Laura noticed the excite on his tone, Samuel loved books and literature since he was a child, chose the historical major with open arms unlike her who chose it because it seemed like it would be the least annoying major.
"I think visiting both places sounds just right." She beamed, obviously forgetting she was flying on a solid object that might fall in the middle of the ocean.
Samuel and Laura talked more about UK history and historical spots, ignoring their hatred. Samuel just loved talking about history and didn't really care if the other person was even interested and Laura was just falling on the trap of being the kind listener when people talk and forgot all her worries.
The old lady interrupted, snatching back her magazine. She grinned when they both looked at her, "I have a better idea, why don't you visit this place?" She pointed at a mountain, "this is Torridonian Sandstone, one of the oldest rocks still visible on surface, and it is 800 to 1000 years old. Don't you think it is as interesting as the rest? Or more?"
"You seem pretty knowledgeable." Laura noted.
"Of course, I am a historical researcher." The old woman beamed "I'm Olivier Erickson, I work in the International Historical Researchers Community, I am on my way back to Torridonian Sandstone after 6 years."
She took out her phone and showed them pictures and eventually joined in their heated historical conversation for hours with Samuel excite and Laura eager interest on the topic.
Laura started dozing off hearing echoes of Olivier and Samuel still ongoing conversation. She, who was leaning towards Samuel to hear Olivier better, nodded off her head and fell asleep on Samuel shoulder.
