Chapter 4: The First Spark

Sir James's laughter echoed through the night, a cruel sound that sent a shiver down Kido's spine. Gary, the other guard, smirked, tightening his grip on his sword. Zara's Parents laid defenseless and dead.

"Magicless bum, huh?" Kido said, his voice trembling with rage. The silver amulet around his neck thrummed with a faint warmth. He felt a surge of energy coursing through his veins, a power he barely understood but desperately needed.

"Prepare to be disappointed," Kido retorted. The amulet hummed in agreement. The sword shone even brighter now.

“Don’t talk to him like that you no-“ The guard stopped as Sir James commanded him to stop.

"Let's see if you can last even one exchange, Magicless Brat."

Gary, following the signal, stepped back and prepared to enjoy the display of what was supposed to happen. He prepared magic that could block their escape in case there were any issues.

Sir James darted towards Kido with inhuman speed.

Kido barely pulled his sword in front of him to block the attack.

Clang!

The sound of steel against steel reverberated through the air. The impact sent a shockwave through Kido's arms, nearly knocking him off his feet. Sir James was far stronger than he anticipated, and he could feel the magic that James' sword possessed.

"Not bad," Sir James said, his grin widening. "But can you handle this?" He channeled magic into his blade, and it ignited with blue flames.

The temperature around Kido increased drastically. He felt like he was in the middle of a kiln.

Kido swung his sword horizontally, trying to cut Sir James. Sir James steps back almost immediately while laughing at Kido

“HAHAHA You truly believe you can do anything. Magicless Brat”

Sir James dashed towards and swung vertically again as the flames almost got to Kido.

“Your too slow old man ill show you whats up” Kido said

He poured more energy into his amulet and did the same to the sword, and the sword began to glow with a blinding white light. He felt his strength surge, his speed increasing exponentially.

This time, when Sir James attacked, Kido was ready.

He sidestepped the blow with surprising agility, and parried and struck more and more accurately, pushing back Sir James.

"What?" Sir James sputtered in disbelief, stumbling backward. "Impossible! How can you–"

Kido didn't give him a chance to finish. He pressed the attack, his movements fluid and precise. He channeled the white energy into his sword, and with each swing, it left trails of shimmering light in the air. The power flowing through him felt raw and untamed, like a wild beast struggling to be free, but he held it in check, focusing all his energy on the fight.

Sir James blocked few of them but was starting to struggle. His sword was starting to be ineffective. The fire on the sword was going out.

Gary realized this was a bit unexpected. Sir James was at a disadvantage as a magicless boy was able to beat him?!

He was just playing around?

Gary prepares to interfere just in case Sir James really gets beat.

Kido saw his chance and lunged forward, aiming a blow at Sir James's chest, but Sir James countered, but Kido was faster now as the amulet shone and the sword. and was able to react faster than him. Kido was able to cut Sir James's Left arm completely off.

The amulet starts glowing with power. Kido's sword shines its brightest it has every shown.

"AAAAAH!" he screamed in pain, clutching his severed arm. "You little—"

Before he could react, Kido swung his sword again, channeling all his energy into a single, devastating blow. The blade connected with Sir James's chest, and a beam of pure white energy erupted from the point of impact.

Sir James's eyes widened in horror as the energy consumed him, disintegrating his body piece by piece. In a matter of seconds, there was nothing left but a pile of dust and a faint smell of ozone.

Gary stared in shock as his leader disintegrated.

Gary was scared and wanted to run away he failed to interfere.

Seeing an opportunity Kido chased after and sliced Gary in half this time the sword. DID NOT glow. It was just a normal sword.

Silence descended upon the Hunter Guild. The only sound was Kido's heavy breathing and the faint crackling of residual energy in the air. Gary and Sir James lay dead on the floor.

He looked down at his hands, trembling despite the victory. He had killed them. He had taken lives. Was he a monster now? Was this the White Legacy - To cause destruction to prevent the bad that's coming after you?

A wave of nausea washed over him, and he stumbled backward, collapsing against the wall. He slid to the ground, burying his face in his hands.

What have I done he mumbled on repeat?

Suddenly, something shifted in the shadows. Kido tensed, his hand instinctively reaching for his sword. He starts shaking and screaming.

He stops and looks to see.
