Blueberry Boy - Book 1
Tap. Tap. Tap. Bleu hit his shovel against the pavement. His black hoodie was starting to strangle him and it started to itch. He knew he had to show up in the same clothes or he wouldn't be recognized as the depressed Bleu, the one who is always emotionless, the one who always has plans to do, the one who always wears girl accessories and the one who always carries his shovel.
Now don't get me wrong. Bleu does all of those but, honestly, what's worse than an itchy hoodie? I'll tell you what. No life. Yes, you heard me. Bleu has no life. He was just sent down to plant as many blueberries as he can. That's all he has to do. But he had to fail at his one job. He failed more than 300,000 times because of distractions. In Bleu's words: "morons". What he means is, his friends.
Bleu surprisingly has a lot of friends, they all appreciate and are aware of his Emo side. Bleu's friends always throw a little party every two weeks for no reason. Bleu HATES socializing. He would do anything to dodge it. Your probably wondering how he got friends in the first place. Well it's quite long and I can tell you later on but right now Bleu's on his way to a party looking like sh*t. Let's hear some more...
Bleu combed his hair with his fingers and looked down at his Jordan's that Kail gave him. Very generous, but if you give them to this guy, you're begging to get them spoiled. Bleu already had scratches, creases, mud and blueberry juice all over them. He didn't understand the respect they needed. Reluctantly, he crossed the road to the other side of the neighborhood. The darker part.
Bleu liked it here. Back in the lighter part of town, there's lots of sun (of course), less crimes, friendly people and you know...a better garden? Bleu only liked here because there is off - licence shops, drama along with crime, funny/ rude people and you know...a mystic shop?
Bleu popped round the corner store and looked around for a bit. The corner store was run by an Indian man. Very stereotypical. Despite him being too nice, him and Bleu are very good friends. Bleu picked up a newspaper and scanned to fridge for a BOJack drink. His favourite. They say it's from fruit with no sweetners. "As if..." Bleu smiled as he carried the newspaper and drink to the counter.
"Aah! Bleu! My little blue boy!" the shopkeeper jumped as he scanned the newspaper. It wasn't a lie, Bleu.....is basically blue. In everything.
"Oh hey" his soft voice slithered back
"Oh yes! Your favourite drink! I remember"
Of course you remember, the last time I bought this was 6 days ago, Bleu thought. He smiled through his anger.
"That'll be £7.98 please! You can get a discount because you're my friend!" The shopkeeper leaves to counter and is about to dance with Bleu.
"Let's dance! Bleu"
"Nah, not my jam. Maybe next time!"
Is this guy a pedo or pervert?, Bleu looks at his with disgust
He pays and leaves the store . On the way there, he opened his can of achohol . "Ahh, refreshing!"
He didn't notice but his shoulder hit Hailey hard.
"Oww!"
Bleu keeps on walking as if nothing happened.
Hailey turns around and recognises the blue hair and shovel. "Bleu? Bleu! Wait up!" Hailey runs up to Bleu and jumps onto the back of him as usual. "I can't believe you're going to the party! Did you bring anything?"
Bleu looks at Hailey in confusion then turns back to the street. "Yeah, I brought myself. Haha"
Hailey grabbed Bleu by his arm. "Haha! Oh Bleu, your so funny! I can't believe your an emo." She rested her head on his shoulder. It was clear that she liked him.
"Mhm" Bleu nodded as he took another sip out of his can.
Hailey watched in horror. "Bleu! Why?..." she took the can and threw it onto the floor. "You're going to ruin your liver! What are you going to start now? Smoke? Take drugs?"
Hailey's eyes were starting to tear up as she planted her face in Bleu's shirt. "Bleu..."
Bleu stopped for a second. He didn't care if he would hurt himself. He would reset soon anyway. He pushed Hailey aside and went to pick up the can. Littering was something else he hated. Hailey thought he was going to pick it up and drink it so she grabbed Bleu by the collar of his hoodie and pulled him up. Bleu held his neck chocking. In his desperate need to escape, he held Hailey's wrist and squeezed in with his nails about to protrude. Hailey let go and dropped to the floor in complete shock.
Letting go slowly, he got up and brushed himself clean. He picked up the can and threw it into the bin. He then stood there waiting for Hailey to get up and walk with him again. No. Hailey stood up without any hassle and slapped him right into the face. Ouch! Bleu stared into the direction he was slapped to and slowly turned back. Hailey realised what she did and covered her mouth with her hands. "Bleu, I'm so sorry. I didn't know I was chocking you. I just don't want you to get into a bad habit of this. You're only 17"
Bleu walked past Hailey with no emotion upon his face. Classic.
Hailey was starting to run after him. "Bleu, please stop! I honestly didn't know! Please." she caught up with him and pulled his sleeve to make him stop. "Here. I got you something..." Hailey fished for a little box with blue sparkly wrapping on it. "Sorry, I couldn't find your favourite colour blue. My brother used all of it." She gave the box to Bleu. His cold pale hands accidentally met hers and he took the box. He looked at it and looked at Hailey giving her his best smile. Bleu can smile, he can laugh, he can have fun, he can love. But when I mean he can, I mean he used to.
"Open it now! I wanna see your reaction. You can take this as my apology." Hailey jumped. Bleu peeled off the wrapping bit by bit. Inside there was a black box with a seed sachet. Bleu looked at the front cover and stared at both the present and Hailey. It was a pack of blueberry seeds. Exactly what Bleu needed. T-Thank you, was what he was meant to say through his tears but he fought the urge and gave Hailey a hug. His tears rolling down her blouse. "Uh..Thank You?" he managed to blurt out. Hailey patted him on the back and pulled away from the hug. "Bleu. Are you crying?"
Bleu wiped his eyes with his sleeve. "Shut up!" Hailey cocked her head and then laughed. Bleu put his hoodie down. "How do you know I was into farming?"
"I see you everyday on the way to school planting something. I know it's blueberries, Bleu."
"Shut up!" Bleu looked into Hailey's beautiful face.
"It's just that I've never...seen you with any emotion...why are you crying?"
Bleu sniffed and pulled his sleeve down to cover his scars and brui- I mean his hands..."It's j-just that, n-no one has given me a present since I restarted and everyone changed." Bleu was still crying. Hailey was about to laugh but realised what he just said. "Wait...you restarted? What does that mean?"
Bleu abruptly stopped crying. Shit, Bleu thought. Bleu had kept this a secret more than 300,000 times. He had stopped himself- no- he didn't need to because no one asked or related a subject to it. This is the reason why Bleu always has no expression. Emotions distract you. They are useless and they lead to problems. Now Bleu had a problem which needed to be solved in the most unthinkable way...
