Deep Thinking

"Sissy, what are you planning to do now?",Florence asked Faith. "Do you have something in mind?", she added.

"For now, I still don't know", Faith replied.

"I'll just wait for some time for whatever I'll come up with",she continued.

Florence goes back to her studies. She enrolled in a nearby public school. Their elder sister Crissa, helps her with school expenses. Though Crissa is married but is childless at the time, so financing Florence's studies is not really that big deal for her and her husband especially that Crissa is also working in a resort near their place, being the supervisor.

Faith is in deep thinking. She's wondering what to do in the coming days. She couldn't stay jobless for a long time. She has dreams to fulfill but she has no means of fulfilling such dreams. She becomes desperate. She still wants to continue her studies but she has to set aside this desire for this time. She needs to make a living. She should not depend on her old-aged father or on anyone. But how? She wishes to start a business, but what business?Is there business that needs no capital? A smile just curved in her lips in thinking such.

While Faith is in the midst of deep thinking inside her room,a voice calling was heard from outside. It was their great aunt that lives next barangay. She came to visit them especially their youngest sibling who was left motherless at a very young age.

"Faith, I never knew that you and Florence are already home",she said with a very soft voice and then tears flowed down her cheeks. This great aunt of theirs has always been so close to their family eversince their mom was alive.

"How long have you been home?",their great aunt asked.

"It's been a month auntie", Faith answered.

"Are you two both going back to school this school year?", she meant Faith and Florence.

"I am, auntie", Florence said.

"How about you, Faith?", she asked.

"I plan not to get back to school yet, auntie, I want to get a job instead", Faith answered.

"Where do you plan to apply", auntie asked.

"I don't know yet", Faith replied.

"How about going to Sally?Maybe she can help you", auntie suggested.

Sally is great untie's daughter.She works as a production operator in a famous company in the city. When auntie speaks to Faith about Sally, the latter's face brigtened. She feels excited. She hopes to get a slot in Sally's company.

A week later, Sally comes home to their province. In going back to the city, Sally brings Faith with her.

She helps Faith apply in their company. She brings Faith with her to their company for a written exam. Luckily, Faith passed the exam. But she has to undergo a dexterity test which is scheduled in a week.

Faith is hopeful to pass the dexterity test though she has no idea of how will it go.

"Faith, we'll leave early tomorrow. I'll drop you at the testing area before I go to my workplace. After the test, whatever the result, I think you already know the way home, you can go ahead of me", Sally instructed Faith.

"Yes, I know", Faith replied.

Sally and Faith arrive at the company's testing area. There are some people in there,probably, they're also waiting for the test to start.

"Faith, can you manage yourself?,Sally asked. "I need to get inside now", she added.

Don't worry about me Sally, I can manage. You have done enough, thank you very much", Faith gratefully said with confidence.

It's almost 8:00 in the morning and the dexterity test is about to begin. Faith feels her heart beating fast, her hands getting cold and her forehead sweating much. She's afraid she couldn't make it.

Finally, the person to administer the test has arrived. Each applicant was called and given twisser to use during the test. The test is under time limit. The applicants were given instruction and Faith listened carefully.She realized that it is a speed test.And then the test begin.

After the test all the applicants are told to wait for the result so they may know if they pass or fail. Sadly, Faith's name is not in the list of passers.

With a sad face, Faith heads to Sally's home. In the evening, Sally talks to her. She tells her the news of a newly opened company. She tries to convince her to apply. And so Faith does as Sally advised.

She goes to the company and personally submits her application letter to the HR Manager.Three days later, she receives a call for a written exam. Right after the exam, the test paper was checked and Faith passed. As she arrives home, her cellphone rings, it's from the HR's office informing her that she has an interview at 7:30 in the morning the following day. Faith just can't figure out how hapy she is.

It's the day of the interview. She feels good and positive. She wears her smiles and confidence as she faces the manager before her. It turns out that the interview she expects to be very formal and tensing seems just a casual and friendly conversation. What makes her even happier is the manager's remark that tells her to return a week after for the orientation and at the same time the first day of work. Faith has finally found a job.

Gary had already finished his apprentice period wit a local shipping lines. All he need now is to take a licensure exam and if he'll pass he'll surely land in a highly-compensated job. But it seems not in his mind yet. Instead he applies in a cement-manufacturing company as contractual worker in a nearby town. He signs a 6-month contract.
