Opening Scene – Coffee and Questions

The next morning, the rain had stopped again. The sky was a pale shade of silver, like it was holding its breath.

Ubaidkk sat in the same corner cafe where he had met Alexander Holmes. The table still had a faint ring from his coffee cup the night before.

Holmes walked in without asking. No greeting, no permission. Just sat down across from him.

“You’re here early,” Holmes said.

“And you’re still following me,” Ubaidkk replied.

Holmes stirred his coffee slowly, eyes fixed on Ubaidkk. “I don’t follow. I observe. And right now, I observe a man who doesn’t have a plan… yet still dares to walk into a lion’s den.”

Ubaidkk leaned back. “You talk too much.”

“And you listen too little,” Holmes said. “That’s dangerous.”

Holmes’s First Insight

Holmes pointed to Ubaidkk’s left hand.

“You don’t wear a watch, but you keep glancing at your wrist. That means you’re waiting for someone, but you don’t trust they’ll show up.”

He then pointed at Ubaidkk’s shoes.

“Mud on the edges, even though you’ve only been in the city two days. That’s from the back alleys near the old port — where Vincenzo’s men operate.”

Ubaidkk narrowed his eyes. “You’ve been spying on me.”

Holmes smiled. “I told you. I observe.”

Cut to Vincenzo – The Chess Master

Across town, Vincenzo stood in front of a chessboard. The pieces weren’t placed randomly — each one had a small tag with a name.

One knight had “Ubaidkk” written on it. Another had “Holmes.”

Vincenzo moved the knight forward. “Let’s see if he plays… or runs.”

His assistant entered. “Sir, we found Lina. She’s been meeting him.”

Vincenzo didn’t look up. “Of course she has. She still thinks she can fix the past.”

Lina’s Warning

That evening, Lina found Ubaidkk again — this time in a quiet bookstore.

“You shouldn’t be here,” she whispered.

“You said that last time,” Ubaidkk replied. “Didn’t work.”

She looked around, nervous. “You don’t understand, he—”

“Vincenzo?” Ubaidkk cut in. “I understand enough.”

“No, you don’t,” she said sharply. “This city… it’s his board. Every street, every building, every person — they’re pieces in his game. And you just walked into the middle without knowing the rules.”

Ubaidkk leaned closer. “Then teach me the rules.”

Her eyes softened for a moment. “Sometimes… the only rule is survival.”

The First Test

Later that night, Holmes took Ubaidkk to an old warehouse near the river.

“Why are we here?” Ubaidkk asked.

“To see if you can handle what’s coming,” Holmes replied.

Inside, three men were waiting. They weren’t street thugs — they were trained.

One of them stepped forward. “Vincenzo sends his regards.”

The fight was fast and brutal. Ubaidkk dodged, countered, landed a punch that sent one man crashing into a metal shelf. Holmes stayed at the side, watching.

When it was over, Holmes finally spoke. “Not bad. But you’re still sloppy.”

“Sloppy?” Ubaidkk asked, breathing hard.

Holmes smirked. “You turned your back on the last guy.”

Before Ubaidkk could react, the “last guy” charged. Holmes stepped forward, one quick strike dropping him to the floor.

“Lesson one,” Holmes said. “Never assume the fight is over until you walk away.”

The Message from Vincenzo

As they left the warehouse, a black envelope slid under the door.

Ubaidkk picked it up. Inside was a single silver coin.

Holmes looked at it and frowned.

“Interesting. That’s not a threat. That’s an invitation.”

“To what?”

“To meet the man himself,” Holmes replied. “And trust me… he doesn’t invite twice.”

Final Scene – Vincenzo’s Private Office

The chapter cuts to Vincenzo.

He’s in his private office, pouring wine into two glasses.

He looks at his assistant. “Tell our guest… I’m looking forward to the conversation.”

The camera (in the reader’s mind) pans to the second wine glass…

and in the reflection of the red liquid, we see Ubaidkk’s face — not there yet, but already part of Vincenzo’s plan.
