Beneath the Moonlight

Beneath the Moonlight

chapter 1 : shattered vows

The wedding was grand, dazzling, and entirely hollow. Eli stood beneath a lavish floral arch, his delicate fingers clutching the bouquet tighter than he realized, knuckles turning pale. The scent of roses and jasmine clung to the air, almost choking him as the guests cheered and cameras flashed. But none of it mattered. Not the elegant suits, not the grandeur, and certainly not the Alpha who stood beside him.

Kael's looked every bit the perfect groom tall, commanding, dressed in a custom black suit with a sharp jawline that could cut glass. His dark eyes, cold as obsidian, didn't spare Eli a glance. His hand rested on Eli's waist like an obligation, not a gesture of affection.

The ceremony was nothing more than a transaction. A forced marriage between an elite Alpha and an orphaned Omega with a modest past. Kael's had never hidden his disdain for the arrangement. From the start, he had blamed Eli for everything the political arrangement, the attention, the restriction of his once free and wild life.

They lived in New York, in a luxurious penthouse that overlooked the city skyline. But to Eli, it felt more like a glass cage. Every day was cold, quiet, and full of tension. Kael,s rarely spoke unless it was to express irritation. He came home late, smelling of scotch and smoke, and often reminded Eli that he could never compare to his first love the one woman Damien had truly wanted.

But they shared a bed. Not out of passion, not out of love, but because Damien wanted control. And Eli, fragile and desperate to survive, let him. Yet the nights were the worst. Sometimes they fought until Eli was in tears. Sometimes they didn't speak at all. And sometimes, kael's would reach for him with shaking hands, lips trembling with buried emotion, only to pull away with cold eyes the next morning.

One night, the dam broke. Words were hurled like weapons.

"You ruin everything," kael's snapped, his voice venomous.

"I didn't ask for this either," Eli whispered, trembling. "You think I wanted to be your prisoner?"

That night, Eli packed his things. No dramatic goodbyes. No letters. Just silence. He left the penthouse and never looked back. Not even when his fingers trembled booking a flight. Not even when the test came back positive.

He was pregnant.

With nothing but savings, fear, and a child growing in his belly, Eli moved to Australia a place far enough from everything, far enough from him.
