Chapter 5

I couldn't see the excitement nor recognition. Other than confusion there was no expression on her face. That is not how mate bond is supposed to be. I thought to myself. I have seen wolves meeting their mates for the first time. All of them were excited and happy and the feelings were mutual.

But how come she shows no expression at all. There's something wrong, I thought as I looked into her for her wolf.

There's no wolf… She doesn't have a wolf….confusion turned into shock as I realised she is not a werewolf but a human.

How can that be? I thought to myself. The mates of Alphas and Betas are also just as strong and powerful. 

Forget powerful at least mate should have been a wolf.

How can the moon goddess match me with a weak human. And I accidentally said 'How can that be? You are a human?'

How can the Moon Goddess do that to me as I thought, my disappointment turned to anger. 

We believe the mates of wolves are predetermined even before our births by the Moon Goddess. Wolves believe the mate bond to be something sacred. I was broken from my strain of thoughts when I heard a man's voice calling her ' Sammy'. 

I thought, so that is her name. Sammy. And when she turned around I moved away and stayed behind a book-shelf away from their eyes. I saw him move closer to her and kiss her. It looked like they had a special relationship.

For some reason I was angry and jealous.

It felt as if someone had coveted something of mine. But I convinced myself that this is for the best. As long as she is happy I should be happy for her. Afterall, she is a human and her life is here. She might be having a family here and she also has a boyfriend who cares for her. Moreover, she doesn't seem to be having the mate bond connection. So I am nothing but a stranger to her. Taking her away from here will only complicate her life and make her hate me. Plus she will be safer here as long as I keep my distance from her.

I saw her walk out with him. And was lost in thoughts when Ryan called me from behind.

He asked 'What's wrong with you? You look like you just saw a ghost'.

'I saw her' I replied.

'Her? Who?' he enquired.

'My mate' I said

Ryan couldn't contain his excitement and hugged me and said ' Finally! You found her! We need to celebrate this.  Where is she? Why didn't you introduce her to me? What's her name? What does she look like?' He kept bombarding me with questions as we walked out. 'Is she coming with us?'

I don't know her name and no she is not coming with us' I said.

'why not?' Ryan asked

'Because she is different' I said.
