Chapter 3

Raven's point of view

I was running through the field, the grass was green and the air was cold. I saw the sun rays falling on something white. I moved closer and saw that it was a woman. She was sitting on a large rock with her back to me. Her hair was long and she was wearing a white dress. The sunlight fell right on her through the clearing in the trees giving her skin a golden colour.

As I walked closer, I stepped on a branch. She tilted her head and then walked away with her fingers lightly brushing the tip of the grass as she walked through it. On her wrist there was a bracelet with phases of the moon as charms.

In my heart, I felt the desperate need to be with her. I followed behind and then increased my pace when I couldn't catch up to her. The tall grass sealed her away from my eyes. I kept increasing my pace until I was finally running to catch up with her; simultaneously pushing the grass sideways with my hands as I made my way through them.

'Tring tring tring' my alarm started ringing.

I was startled awake, feeling a little irritated to be woken up from a good dream. I sat up and checked the time. It was 4 AM.

For a while I sat down thinking to myself, why do I keep having the same dream over and over? Who is she? If she is my mate? If she is,  why hasn't she shown up yet? Has anything happened to her? Is that her way of communicating?

But that can't be. The mate bond is usually strong especially in the case of Betas and Alphas. Their mates are almost always close to them, either in the same pack or the neighbouring packs. They are also able to recognise their mates early on in their lives, at about 7 or 8 years of age.

But why haven't I found mine even though I am already 26.

The more I think about it, the more questions I seem to have.

Many believe that it could be because my mate died young. And I choose to believe that. It is better than waiting for someone who may never come.

Some pack members and other neighbouring packs have

already used this as an excuse to set me up with a mate; either for the power or to stabilize their packs.

A pack can't be left without a Luna for very long as this increases the uncertainty of the pack's future. And without two leaders, the pack will be seen as an easy target.

But being a Luna is a huge responsibility. The power is almost equivalent to the Alpha. So I cannot grant that to just anyone. It should be someone who can put the pack above all things including their own life and have the ability to lead the pack in my absence.

I got out of bed and started my day. I went running on the pack ground before heading to the gym. At around 7, I was back in my room, took a shower and headed to the kitchen. I made myself a cup of coffee and some avocado toast. Then sat down to have breakfast before reading the news.

It was almost 8 and there was no sign of Ryan.

I waited for 10 more minutes before Ryan walked into the kitchen in his pyjamas half sleepy.

He walked past me to the refrigerator, without even realising I was there, mumbling ' hungry, very hungry, food'.

I rushed over to the front of the refrigerator and shut it before he could even open it completely and said 'You are late'.
