One Winter Night

One Winter Night

Chapter 1: The Weird Feeling of guilt

Eliot was a young orphan child who lived with his foster parents and their son Sean. He had a fulfilling childhood with his foster family, but he never forgot about that one night when his parents had to leave him for some personal reasons that they never told him about—only to never come back. Eliot and Sean had been together since they were teenagers and were really close to each other. They had no secrets between them. Eliot was a year younger than Sean. Sean was never mean to him, nor did he say or do mean things that might hurt him or his feelings. Eliot and Sean went to college and were really good in studies, but they were never in the same class. After they graduated college, they moved out and lived as roommates. But soon after graduation, Sean's father fell severely ill and passed away. His mother, Ms. Victoria, was very upset after her husband passed away and wanted Sean to stay with her a little longer. But he did not want to because of what he had experienced in the house. He said he would never forget the pain of being misunderstood and mistreated. His father had never really liked Eliot staying in the house and disliked Sean being nice, kind, respectful, gentle, and polite whenever he was around him. He had said mean things to Sean about how Eliot was just a street rat and that it was his face that had saved his life in his misery. Eliot had been a thirteen-year-old boy with skin as white as snow, cheeks rosy, and lips rose red. He had been in an orphanage when Ms. Victoria took pity on him and took him in as family. Sean had always stood up for Eliot, which had made his father really mad. So, Sean did not really feel bad about the passing of his father—after all, he hadn't been a great person. Eliot had been a kind child, so he could not say no to Ms. Victoria and agreed to stay. Sean had been furious about it. He had told Eliot that he had no right to stay at his father's funeral, saying that he was just taken in and was not their real child. Sean had also said that Eliot was just a mere pitiful orphan whom his family had decided to take in, and that he was their child and Eliot could never be equal to him. Eliot had been hurt. The pain he had tried to let go of had stung him once more, but this time the pain was even deeper than before. He had felt his whole world collapse into pieces, and he had been hurt and felt bad for a family that wasn't even his. He had wondered what he had even been thinking about. Eliot could not see the things in front of him—his vision had become blurry because of his tears. He ran from the church and kept running until his legs became numb. It had been winter, and he wore light clothes because that was all he had. It was freezing out there, but he reached the place he felt the most peaceful—the beach, where his parents used to bring him to have fun. But he always just sat in the sand with his feet soaked in the water, watching the sunset. In that place, no one judged him. Eliot spent the rest of the day by the beach, crying and blaming himself for wanting too much and not listening to Sean. It had been snowing outside, but Eliot had nowhere to go, so he stayed at the beach until sunrise. Then, he decided to find some place to work and get money to rent a small flat. Sean, on the other hand, felt a certain guilt—a pain he had never experienced before. He felt as if he should have just stayed quiet. He felt miserable. Misery took over. And soon, after a few days, Ms. Victoria passed away because of sickness. Sean became very lonely. He stayed indoors and had not gone out in days. Eliot worked hard and rented himself an apartment. He brought a few things from the orphanage to the foster house, which were his belongings. So, he went back to the place he once called home. The moment he entered, everything felt off. It was dark, gloomy, and Sean was nowhere to be seen
