— Hey! — Ji-hwan protested, surprised.

Joo-seon pulled him without hesitation, dragging him into an empty room.

They stepped inside.

CLACK.

The door shut behind them.

— Be my friend.

— What is this? A K-drama, “Enemies to Lovers”? — Ji-hwan said mockingly.

— I’m not joking. I need your help. — Joo-seon replied.

— You’re asking me for help? Do you even know what you’re doing?

— I do.

— But… help with what?

Joo-seon pulled a book out of his backpack and handed it to Ji-hwan, already open.

— Here. Read it.

Ji-hwan took the book and started reading the first chapter.

— Chapter 1: The Forgotten Link

Ji-hwan rolled his eyes.

— So you’re basically trusting in distrust?

— This is… insane. What if you’re just being paranoid?

Ji-hwan let out a short laugh.

— Wow. That’s dramatic. You should write soap operas.

— I’m serious.

— Alright… so what exactly do you want me to do?

— Keep an eye on me. If I start acting weird… or if someone gets too close… write it down. Watch. Tell me. Even if it sounds crazy. And help me figure out who might want to kill me.

— You’re really trusting me with this?

— You’ve got nothing to lose, right?

Ji-hwan went quiet for a few seconds, then shrugged.

— If you’re dumb enough to trust me… then you better be ready to deal with the consequences.

Joo-seon replied without hesitation:

— I am.

— Okay. At least it’ll be fun.

— Thanks.

— Don’t thank me yet. I’m only promising not to kill you… for now.

— So what now?

— Now we find out where this book came from.
