The Next Day

The little park looked the same, but to Taehyung, it felt different today — magical, even.

He was standing near the bench with a serious pout on his lips, arms crossed over his chest. His tiny yellow overalls were spotless (for now), and his shoes lit up every time he shifted his weight.

KIM TAEHYUNG (o

Mommyyyy... hyungie not coming?

KIM JIMIN (o)

(Adjusting his son's bucket hat ) He will, baby. You’ve only waited five minutes

KIM TAEHYUNG (o

(Determined tone ) It’s not five! It’s… ten hundred minutes!

KIM JIMIN (o)

(Giggling softly ) Alright, alright. Ten hundred. That’s a long time.

Taehyung looked down at his bunny plushie and whispered seriously.

What if hyungie forgot me, Bun-Bun?

Before Jimin could answer, a sleek black car pulled up near the gate. Taehyung’s head snapped up, eyes wide.

KIM TAEHYUNG (o

(Gasps ) HYUNGIEEEEEE!

He took off running on his short legs, squealing with joy.

Jungkook stepped out of the car, brushing his fringe out of his eyes and adjusting his little backpack. He blinked, and suddenly there was a loud “Oof!” as a small body collided into his tummy

KIM TAEHYUNG (o

(Hugging Jungkook tightly ) You come! You come back!

Jeon Jungkook (E)

(Little surprised ) Uh… yeah. I said I would, didn’t I?

KIM TAEHYUNG (o

(Nodding eagerly ) You keep pwomise! Mommy said sometimes boys say pwomise and run away. But you no run!

Jeon Jungkook (E)

(Grinning shyly ) Well, I don’t run from tiny tornadoes who attack me at the park.

KIM TAEHYUNG (o

(Tilting head ) What ‘torando’?

Jeon Jungkook (E)

It’s like a really fast, really small storm that hugs too hard

KIM TAEHYUNG (o

(Giggling ) Hehe! Me? I is storm?

Jeon Jungkook (E)

(Teasingly ) You’re a category five.

From the bench, Jimin watched the two with a soft smile, arms folded as his heart melted.

KIM JIMIN (o)

They look like they’ve known each other forever…

Just then, Taehyung grabbed Jungkook’s hand.

KIM TAEHYUNG (o

Come! Come! We pway now! Today we build castle! With flower, and bunny king, and slide for duckies!

Jeon Jungkook (E)

(Letting himself be dragged ) Okay, okay! But don’t make me the duck.

KIM TAEHYUNG (o

Nooo! You is prince. Bunny is king. I is… I is the cloud!

Jeon Jungkook (E)

(Laughs softly ) You wanna be the cloud?

KIM TAEHYUNG (o

Yes. Cloud stay on top and watch all. Cloud protect prince and bunny!

The two settled near the sandbox. Jungkook knelt down, already scooping sand, while Taehyung began arranging flowers and grass he had picked earlier.
