HEART BREAK

KEVIN'S POV

She stopped talking to me like before.

No more movie nights. No more long walks. Just… excuses.

“I have homework.”

“Mom’s calling.”

“I’m tired today, Kev, maybe tomorrow.”

But “tomorrow” never came.

And I was stupid.

Stupid enough to wait. Stupid enough to think maybe she just needed space.

Until one night, I saw her.

Through the fogged glass of Ian’s car window.

She was curled up in the passenger seat, her knees tucked under her chin.

Hair messy. Face flushed.

She was laughing at something.

Holding a cup of coffee...my favorite coffee place’s logo on it.

Ian leaned back in the driver’s seat, one arm draped lazily on the wheel, that smug, satisfied smirk tugging at his lips..the same one he wore after wrecking hearts like it was a hobby.

My jaw clenched.

So did my fists.

But I stayed frozen at the corner of the street, swallowed by the shadows of the alley.

I watched her smile at him.

That smile used to be mine.

And in that moment, I realized...she didn’t even see me anymore.

Later That Night .... At Home

I was pacing in the kitchen when Ian strolled in, tossing his keys on the counter like he hadn’t just taken a piece of me and crushed it without even realizing.

“Late night?” I asked, (voice cold.)

Ian raised an eyebrow, grabbed a water bottle from the fridge. “You tell me.”

“I saw you.” My voice came out sharper than I intended.

He unscrewed the cap slowly. “Oh?”

“Snow. In your car.” I didn’t need to say more. The look on his face told me everything.

He smirked again. “Yeah. She needed a break. I gave her one.”

“That’s not a game, Ian,” I snapped, stepping forward. “She’s not one of your randoms.”

Ian leaned against the counter, unbothered. “She doesn’t act like one. But you know how girls get when they want attention.”

“She’s not like that.” My fists clenched again. “Don’t screw with her just because you’re bored.”

Ian’s eyes darkened a little. “Are you telling me what to do now?”

“I’m telling you to stay the hell away from her if you don’t feel anything for her,” I said quietly, controlling the storm inside me.

There was silence.

Then Ian laughed. Low. Icy. “Kev, don’t be so dramatic. If she wanted you, she wouldn’t be in my car, would she?”

That stung.

He walked away, leaving me standing there.

The Next Day .... School Rooftop

I found her sitting alone during lunch, legs dangling over the edge like she had no idea the wind could knock her down.

“Snow,” I called.

She turned. Her face lit up for a second...but then dulled, like she remembered she wasn’t supposed to look at me like that anymore.

“Hey,” she said quietly, hugging her jacket tighter around herself.

“Can we talk?”

She hesitated. “I have class in...”

“Please,” I cut in. “Just… two minutes.”

She nodded.

I sat beside her, keeping space between us even though every bone in my body wanted to reach out.

“I saw you last night,” I said finally.

She froze. “Oh.”

“Ian.” I swallowed. “You were with Ian.”

“I was.” She didn’t offer more.

“Why?”

She looked away, biting her bottom lip. “Because he makes me feel… alive. Like I matter.”

“You matter to me.”

That made her flinch.

“You used to tell me everything, Snow. Now I don’t even know who you are when you’re with him.”

She stayed quiet.

“You know what kind of guy he is,” I whispered. “You know he doesn’t..”

“I know, Kevin!” she snapped suddenly, turning to me. “You think I don’t? You think I don’t see the way he looks at other girls even when I’m right there?”

My breath caught.

“Then why stay?”

Her eyes glistened, but she smiled bitterly. “Because he looks at me sometimes like I’m the only one in the world. And even if it’s a lie… I want to believe it.”

My heart cracked.

“You deserve more,” I said. “You deserve real. You deserve someone who’d never make you feel like an option.”

Her eyes met mine....and something flickered there. Guilt? Pain? Regret?

“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “But it’s not you.”

And that was the moment I realized…

Sometimes the person you’d fight the world for, would never pick you.

Because they were too busy chasing the storm.

And Ian?

He was the storm she wanted to be wrecked by.

Even if it destroyed her.
