Chapter Text
"Hey, Cocont Head." Jimin's calls across the hallway to Jungkook as he opens his locker. For some reason, Jimin has found himself approaching Jungkook again without his friends with him. It's become some sort of weird habit now.
"Hello, Park Jimin." Jungkook greets. He grabs a few books from inside his locker and shoves them into his bag. "Can I help you with something?" Jungkook questions.
"No." Jimin crosses his arms, shrugging. Jungkook nods, closes his locker, and looks at Jimin for a moment.
"Well, want to walk home with me?" Jungkook questions.
"W-what? What are you asking?" Jimin blushes, acting as if what Jungkook is suggesting is outrageous.
"Come on, Park Jimin." Jungkook motions for Jimin to follow him. Jimin does without knowing why. He sneaks up to Jungkook's side, moody and arms crossed with an annoyed expression on his face.
"I'm not walking home with you, just so you know. I'm just walking out of the school next to you. So don't get any ideas." Jimin spits.
"What ideas? Aren't we just walking?" Jungkook questions, not understanding. Jimin grumbles. They walk out in silence though. That is, until Jimin spots someone.
"Whoa." Jimin stops in his tracks as he looks at the guy before him. He's waiting out front of the school on a motorcycle. "Who's that? He's hot." Jimin says, almost forgetting Jungkook is next to him.
Jungkook sighs to himself, staring at the cool-looking guy wearing tight pants and a leather jacket. "He's not that great." Jungkook mumbles. "That's my brother."
Jimin has to do a double take at that. "Wait, wait, wait. This hot guy riding a motorcycle is your brother?" Jimin looks at Jungkook incredulously.
"Yeah." Jungkook nods.
"He probably has coconut head just like you." Jimin sighs, mumbling to himself. But boy oh boy, is he in for a surprise when this hottie of a big brother takes his helmet off and proudly displays his amazingly normal hairdo.
Jimin gasps.
"What?" Jungkook looks at him.
"Nothing." Jimin clears his throat.
Jungkook starts walking towards his brother without an expression on his face. When his brother looks over at them, Jimin expects a smile or a wave, but what happens couldn't have been predicted by anyone.
"Jungkookie!" Jeon Junghyun squeals when he spots his little brother. He flaps his arms happily, jumping up and down. Junghyun races towards his younger brother, enveloping him in a huge hug.
"Please let go of me." Jungkook struggles to say, voice muffled in his brother's chest.
"Oh, sorry. You're just so cute and I missed you so much that I couldn't help myself." Junghyun grins, pinching Jungkook's cheeks and petting his hair. "I'm so glad to see you still have your cute haircut. Don't ever change it, okay?"
Jimin is in awe of this man up close. Him and Jungkook are related? How? He's so... handsome and hot and definitely Jimin's type.
"Oh, is this your friend? Hi. I'm Junghyun. I'm Jungkook's older brother!" Junghyun grins beautifully. Jimin swears he almost melts.
Jungkook looks on, feeling uncomfortable. What is this feeling inside of him?
"H-hi." Jimin stutters, blushing. "I'm Jimin. It's nice to meet you." Jimin reaches his hand out to shake Junghyun's, but the older male pulls Jimin into a hug.
"Any friend of Kook's is a friend of mine." Junghyun laughs and Jimin swears he's in heaven. The feeling of Junghyun's strong body against his is... incredible.
Jungkook clears his throat loudly. "Junghyun, lets just go home." Jungkook says.
"Oh, okay. Is Jimin coming too? He can ride on the back with me while you ride in your sidecar." Junghyun smiles, motioning towards a little cart attached to the side of his motorcycle with the name Jeon Jungkookie written in big pink lettering on the side.
"No, he's not—"
"I'd love to." Jimin cuts Jungkook off, deciding for himself. Junghyun offered to let Jimin sit behind him on the motorcycle. Why would Jimin say no to that?
"What?" Jungkook's head snaps towards Jimin. Even though recently spending time with Park Jimin has sounded like an amazing idea, the way Jimin is looking at Junghyun seriously puts Jungkook off. He doesn't want them together for some reason.
"Awesome! Here, Kook. I kept your helmet for you." Junghyun pulls out a white helmet that has a rim and Hello Kitty stickers all over it. Jimin can't help but snicker at the sight of Jungkook when he puts it on.
So cute... Jimin smiles to himself before catching his thoughts. Not cute. Not cute at all. He grimaces at himself.
"I don't have an extra helmet for you, Jimin, so you'll have to hold on tight." Junghyun says, sitting on his motorcycle. Jimin hops on behind him, already wrapping his arms around the older, stronger male.
Jungkook, straight-faced, gets into his sidecar and buckles himself in, knees to his chest, staring up at his brother and Jimin. Something about how close they are right now is really grinding Jungkook's gears...
"What?" Junghyun looks at his brother. "Why do you look like that?"
Jimin looks on in confusion. To him, Jungkook is just looking at his brother with a straight face. Maybe Junghyun sees something else?
"What?" Jungkook shrugs.
"You're in a mood. Why? What happened?"
"Nothing." Jungkook replies, looking forward. "Let's just go home." Junghyun frowns at Jungkook before revving the engine and going on his way.
The three of them soon arrive at the Jeon household. Two things are surprising to Jimin: one, they live very close to where his mother lives, and two, there's a huge banner across the second story of their house that reads, Jungkook, I'm home in big red letters.
"What..." Jimin begins as he gets off of Junghyun's bike.
"I put that sign up every time I come home to see my baby brother." Junghyun beams happily. Wow. He really loves his brother. Jimin thinks. He glances over at Jungkook, who is already walking towards the house.
"Coconut—I mean, Jungkook." Jimin coughs when he actually uses Jungkook's name. Junghyun can't know he calls Jungkook Coconut Head.
"Yes?" Jungkook turns to look at Jimin.
"Wait for me." He responds, walking to Jungkook's side. The three of them walk into the house and see Jungkook's parents.
"Oh! Junghyun? You're home so early!" Mrs. Jeon runs to her son, hugging and kissing him. Their father soon joins in, leaving Jungkook and Jimin standing there awkwardly.
"Is this your friend from school?" Mr. Jeon asks, glancing over at Jimin.
"No, this is Jungkookie's friend." Junghyun smiles.
"Uh, yeah. I'm Cocon—Jungkook's friend." Jimin introduces himself, shaking their parents hands.
"Oh, really? I thought his only friends were Jin and Namjoon." Mrs. Jeon seems a little surprised. "It's nice to meet you, regardless." She smiles at Jimin.
"How about we sit down and catch up? Jungkook and his friend can head upstairs." Mr. Jeon says.
"Jungkook should stay down here and spend time with us." Junghyun replies, suddenly a bit agitated.
"We always spend time with Jungkook, but you've been away at college. We just want to catch up, honey." Mrs. Jeon tells her son.
"I'm not gonna let you leave him out agai—"
"Junghyun." Jungkook calls to his brother. Junghyun meets Jungkook's eyes. "It's fine. Park Jimin and I will go upstairs."
"But—"
"Come on, Park Jimin." Jungkook pulls on Jimin's wrist, leading him towards the stairs.
"Are you okay?" Jimin asks carefully as they walk into Jungkook's bedroom.
"I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?" Jungkook questions. Jimin shrugs, twisting his mouth in concern.
"I just wanted to make sure." Jimin tells him. As Jungkook sets his bag down on his bed, Jimin looks around. His room is a lot more lively than he thought it would be.
On the walls of Jungkook's bedroom are framed, pressed flowers, and at least three full-sized bookcases. This space has way more personality than its owner.
"What are all these books?" Jimin questions.
"They're my horticulture books."
"Hortiwhat?" Jimin questions.
"I told you this before. It's the study of plants."
"Ugh." Jimin rolls his eyes. "Why are you so obsessed with plants?"
"You really want to know?"
Jimin looks at him for a second. "If you're willing to tell me, I'm willing to listen." He nods, crossing his arms and plopping himself on Jungkook's bed.
"Well..." Jungkook begins, sitting next to Jimin. "When I was younger I used to stay at my grandparent's house every summer. I loved it so much. They were always so kind to me, and I could tell they truly loved me." A small smile finds its way onto Jungkook's face, shocking Jimin. "My grandmother has always been really into gardening, and I never used to understand it. One day I asked her why she took such good care of her garden, and what she said to me changed my life forever."
"What did she say?"
"She said, well, because my plants are like humans. They need sunlight, water, and nutrients to survive, but most importantly, they need love. Sure, you can grow a flower without love, but it won't be as bright and beautiful as one that was loved. Just like humans." Jungkook says the words that have stuck with him for years, suddenly feeling vulnerable. He looks over to Jimin, who meets his eyes without hesitation. "And you can obviously see how I've turned out."
Jimin swallows hard. He's not quite sure how to respond to that. He understands what Jungkook is getting at. He honestly, truly understands. He saw it when his parents asked him to go upstairs. Hell, Jimin even feels this on a personal level. He feels the same way about his own parents.
For the first time, Jimin looks at Jungkook in a different light. We're the same. We're the same, but we're different. He thinks.
"I don't think your turned out that bad." Jimin shakes his head. He looks down at his hands on his lap. "Honestly, we're kind of the same."
"We are?" Jungkook questions. Jimin nods.
"I feel that way towards my mother. I feel like she's always been so caught up in the material things in life that she never really showed me enough love." Jimin shrugs.
"What about your dad?"
"My dad is... awesome. I love him to death, but he's a mess. He's not really fit to be a parent right now." Jimin shrugs.
It's silent for a moment. "You know, I don't completely agree with you."
"Hmm? What do you mean?" Jimin glances over.
"I think you're bright and beautiful like a flower." Jungkook whispers, confused as to why his heart is racing after that sentence. "You're different than me. You're remarkable and memorable."
"Jungkook..." Jimin blushes, biting his lip. Pushing his weird feelings out of the way, he speaks. "That's not completely true."
"In what way?"
"I only stick out because I made myself this way. I act out because it's the only way I get the attention I crave." Jimin bares his heart to Jungkook, spilling all of his thoughts and feelings. He could never say any of this stuff to Tae or Yoongi. They wouldn't be able to relate to him.
"You know, you remind me of a gerbera daisy."
"A what?" Jimin laughs a little.
"Nothing." Jungkook shakes his head, a small smile on his lip. Just as he's about to say something else, he happens to look towards his door and sees his brother. His smile disappears. "Junghyun."
"Hi, sorry." Junghyun laughs awkwardly. "Hey, Jimin, do you think I could speak to you for a moment?"
Jimin, all heart eyes, grins at Junghyun and walks towards him. "Of course." Jimin nods.
"What? But..." Jungkook frowns.
"It'll only take thirty seconds. We'll be right back." Junghyun tells his younger brother as he grabs Jimin's hand and leads him towards another room down the hall.
"Uh, what did you need to talk to me about?" Jimin asks after Junghyun shuts the door behind them.
Junghyun smiles at Jimin for a moment before speaking. "Jungkook likes you."
Jimin's face becomes hot. "W-what? No he doesn't!" Jimin denies, shaking his head furiously.
"Jimin, he totally does. I've never seen him smile like that with another person besides me before. And even that is rare." Junghyun says. "He likes you."
"What? I can't believe that. He barely shows any expression or emotion. How can you be sure?"
"He's my little brother. I know him." Junghyun grins. "And if I didn't know any better, I'd say you like him too."
"W-what?" Jimin becomes a stuttering, sputtering mess. "I do not like Coco—I mean, Jungkook." Jimin tells Junghyun.
"I don't know... I'm really good at seeing these things before anyone else does." Junghyun taps his temple knowingly. "I didn't even know he was gay..." He says to himself.
"Look, Junghyun. Jungkook and I don't even talk." Jimin shakes his head, placing his hands on his hips.
"You obviously do. I overheard your conversation. I promise I wasn't eavesdropping." Junghyun puts his hands up defensively. "I just happened to catch you telling him you two were the same." He shrugs.
Jimin sighs. "I'm not even interested in him, okay? He's not my type."
"What? But he's so adorable. Look at his cute puffy hair and his bunny-like features. How can he not be your type?"
"I usually go for guys that look something like you. You're my type." Jimin tries to explain, and that's when the door opens.
"I thought you said it would be thrity seconds?" Jungkook enters, looking at his brother, who somehow in the process of trying to convince Jimin that he likes Jungkook, put his hands on Jimin's shoulders.
"You shouldn't take time so literally." Junghyun tells his brother.
Jungkook looks at his brother's hands on Jimin's shoulders, and something inside him snaps. He roughly pulls Jimin behind him with one hand. "Please don't touch Park Jimin."
Jimin's heart is racing. What the hell? Why is he so strong? He shouldn't be feeling like this towards Jungkook right now...
"Alright. Hands off, I get it." Junghyun grins, obviously at what had just happened. "You can have your friend back. I think I've proven my point."
"Come on, Park Jimin. Let me walk you home." Jungkook says.
"Home?" Jimin asks, but before he can really process what's happening, him and Jungkook are already outside.
"My brother doesn't like guys." Jungkook says all of a sudden.
"Huh?" Jimin looks over at him.
Jungkook crosses his arms uncomfortably. "He doesn't like guys. And he's a player, so you shouldn't have feelings for him." Jungkook shrugs.
Jimin can't help but blush. Maybe Junghyun was right... maybe we do like each other...?
"Oh, well... I wasn't going to pursue him or anything. He's your older brother." Jimin shrugs, feeling awkward. He crosses his arms too, and before he realizes it, they're near his dad's house. It's not even the weekend, but he could stop here.
"This is my stop." Jimin says at a corner about two blocks away from his dad's place.
"But we're at a corner. There aren't any houses here."
"I can go the rest of the way on my own." Jimin nods.
"Okay." Jungkook nods back, a little reluctantly. "I guess this is goodbye for now, Park Jimin."
"Just Jimin."
"What?"
"You can just call me Jimin. You don't need to add my last name." Jimin says.
Jungkook stares at him for a moment. "Okay, Jimin." He nods. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Yeah... see you."
As Jungkook walks away, he has a small smile on his face. He likes spending time with Jimin.
