Chapter Text

Jimin walks into his dads house after walking his friends to the bus stop. "Dad?" He calls out with a scowl on his face.

"Huh?" A voice asks. "Jiminie? Is that you?"

"Dad?" Jimin walks further into the house, entering the dark bedroom. He flips the light switch on and is met by the sight of his sobbing father. "What the hell, Dad?" Jimin groans.

"Jiminie." His father sobs.

"Are you drunk again?" Jimin eyes the old cartons of Chinese food and empty liquor bottles littering his father's nightstand.

"I just had a little." His father slurs. "I was depressed."

"Depressed over what?"

"Over how much I missed you." His father sniffles. Jimin lets out a humorless laugh.

"You're a mess." He sighs. "Come on, lets just get you ready for bed." Jimin shakes his head, pulling his father into a laying position.

"Thank you. I'm sorry." His father apologizes.

"It's fine. Just go to bed, alright? I'll see you in the morning." Jimin says. He takes his father's hand in his for a moment before silently exiting the room, making sure to turn the light off before he goes.

He re-enters the living room and looks around. It's just as much of a mess in here as it is in his father's bedroom. Sighing, he gets to cleaning. He's pretty much used to this by now. This is what he comes home to every weekend. Emphasis on home.

A few years ago, Jimin and his family were happy. At least he tried to think they were. He could see all the signs, but when his parents got a divorce, it was devastating. He can remember it all like it was yesterday.

His father was caught cheating on his mother, but the problems ran deeper than that. The reason his father even did that in the first place was because of his mother. Jimin's mother had fallen out of love a long time ago, and was only staying with his father for her son's sake. So when she found out about the cheating, she wasn't as much sad as she was excited for an opportunity to get out of the marriage. Jimin's father had begged and pleaded, and explained that the only reason he cheated was because he wanted to feel loved again, but his mother wasn't having it. They divorced and their home was broken.

And now things are like this. Jimin's father lives in a shithole on the edge of town, living paycheck to paycheck while his mother's company has taken off. She's living the lavish life with her new boyfriend, Hyuk, who Jimin hates more than he can explain.

And, to be honest, even though his father was the one who cheated, he loves him more. Jimin can understand his father's reasoning, although he really shouldn't have done it. It just seemed like his mother wouldn't even try to work things out.

The day she signed those papers, Jimin lost a lot of respect for her. All she cares about is her boyfriend, her business, and her big ass house. Honestly, Jimin feels more at home in his dad's shack than he does at his mom's place.

And that's why, even as he's cleaning up stinky old noodles and empty liquor bottles, he's a little happier than he was yesterday. He gets to stay with his dad for the weekend, and that's all that matters.

After he's finished with that mess, he heads to his room. A feeling of relief washes over him as he closes his bedroom door to see all of the things he treasures the most decorating the walls and shelves in his tiny bedroom. This is home.

Peeling off his shirt and pants, he pulls on some clean pajamas and plops himself down onto his bed, pulling out his journal.

"What happened today?" Jimin asks himself in a sigh. "I met that weird kid. Jeon Jungkook." Jimin says to himself, jotting that down.

"The nerve of that kid..." Jimin shakes his head. He's not used to losing like that. He felt so frustrated, and that's why he's so adamant about getting a reaction out of him. Anger, humiliation, tears. Anything will suffice. He just doesn't want some coconut headed kid to think he can push him around like that.

Jimin wasn't always like this. He used to be a good kid, but you know what a divorce does to a person. He struggled with his identity after that. He struggled wondering who's side he should take. It was hard on him. That's why he turned to being a bully. He felt inferior, and wanted to feel powerful. It's as simple as that.

He's fully aware that people talk about him behind his back. He's heard the rumors. The ones about him sleeping around and blackmailing people for sex. None of that is true. Sure, he's slept with a few people, but hasn't everyone? He's just an easy target, because he gets upset at those types of things, giving people exactly what they want.

"That's enough for now." Jimin says to himself, putting his journal away. He lays down, turning off his lamp, and forces himself to go to sleep.

He thought that would help him escape from the shitty day he had, but he was very, very wrong.

That kid... Jimin thinks to himself. Jeon Jungkook is weird. He's weird and makes Jimin extremely angry. Why didn't he react? He barely batted an eye. That's must be complete bullshit... right?

"He can't really be that emotionless..." Jimin frowns. "Agh." He shakes his head. He needs to figure something out. Something he can do to that Jungkook kid to crush his soul.

But what?

Not able to come up with anything, Jimin falls asleep.

-

"Jimin. You're short." Jungkook tells Jimin.

"No I'm not. Leave me alone." Jimin whimpers.

"You're short, and you know what else? Nobody will ever love you." Jungkook laughs evilly.

"T-that's not true!" Jimin cries.

"And you know what else?"

"What?"

"I curse you with coconut hair forever!" Thunder cracks, and the darkness around them lights up. Jungkook grows and distorts into a monster, who's only purpose is to laugh at Jimin and his miserable life.

"You'll end up just like your father. A poor, forgotten drunk. You'll end up alone, just like him." Jungkook cackles.

Jimin can feel himself shaking with tears. It feels too real. It feels all too real...

Jimin jerks awake. He's trembling. He brings a hand up to his face. Is he crying?

"Fuck." Jimin whispers. He glances at his alarm clock as he wipes his wet eyes. It's six thirty. He has a feeling he won't be able to fall back asleep anytime soon, so he gets up, pulls on a hoodie and some jeans, and heads out.

Whenever Jimin has nightmares, he likes to take a walk. It helps to calm himself down. He's able to clear his mind without having people surrounding him.

"Since I'm alone..." Jimin looks around to see no sign of any people. He also enjoys singing from time to time, but he hates singing in front of people. So now his the perfect opportunity to let it all out.

Jimin begins singing, pouring his heart and soul into the lyrics. He can feel himself becoming a little less burdened now.

"You're a good singer." Jimin hears all of a sudden. His head snaps towards the voice, only to see Jeon Jungkook. Coconut Head.

"W-what are you doing here?" Jimin tries to glare, but he's just blushing embarrassedly.

"I come to this park every weekend when I wake up to get some fresh air." Jungkook shrugs.

"I didn't ask." Jimin crosses his arms and turns away slightly.

"Yes you did. You literally asked me what I was doing here."

"Whatever, Coconut Head." Jimin grumbles, turning away.

"Your singing voice... it's really good." Jungkook says again.

Jimin chuckles humorlessly. "How can you even say something like that with a straight face?" He rolls his eyes.

"Just because I seem emotionless doesn't mean I really am." Jungkook counteracts. "Besides, you don't really need to be subjective to realize if someone is a good singer or not." He shrugs again.

"Whatever. Don't spy on me."

"I wasn't. I was just walking around and heard someone singing, and it happened to be coming from the direction I was walking in. And here you are." Jungkook shoves his hands into his pockets. That gives Jimin an opportunity to look at Jungkook's attire.

He's wearing a pair of basic grey sweatpants and a white-and-blue-striped t-shirt. It's tucked into his sweatpants, of course, because why would he just wear his shirt normally? And his shoes—god, those shoes. They're straight out of 2006. Horrible in every way imaginable.

"Why do you dress so terribly? It's hurting my eyes." Jimin makes a disgusted face.

"What's wrong with my outfit? I think it's fine." Jungkook looks down at himself. He honestly doesn't seem bothered by how he looks.

"Coconut Head, your outfit is terrible. Accept it."

"Whatever you say." Jungkook shrugs. He doesn't say anything or go anywhere, he just kind of looks off into the distance. "The sun is coming up."

Jimin turns. He's right, the sun is coming up. "Yeah, and?"

"And I like sunrises." Jungkook shrugs.

"You're boring."

"Then why are you still here talking to me?" Jungkook looks Jimin in the eyes. Jimin can feel his face reddening, and he's not sure whether it's in embarrassment or anger.

"You're stupid."

"Am I though?"

"Yes."

"I think I'm pretty smart, actually."

"You're not." Jimin glares.

"That's your opinion. You're entitled to it." Jungkook nods.

"God, will you react? Please?" Jimin suddenly explodes.

"Aren't I reacting by replying?"

"No!" Jimin balls his fists. He suddenly thinks about what Jungkook has said the previous day.

"I'd take in my situation and determine what my opponents insecurities might be."

So Jimin takes his eyes over Jungkook. Maybe he should use his own strategies against him in order to evoke a reaction? That could potentially work, but what the hell would his insecurities be? He seems so... comfortable in his terrible clothes and shoes. And he doesn't react when Jimin talks about his haircut, so what? What can he possibly say to hurt him?

"Do you not have any weaknesses?" Jimin asks, exasperated. "You... seriously though. How can you be so comfortable like this? You're so boring. It's a wonder how your friends stay with you." Jimin shakes his head.

That's it. That's the weak point. Jimin thinks as he sees something change in Jungkook's eyes. He smirks a little.

"What is it? When I asked how your friends stay with you?" Jimin asks with an evil smile on his face. Jungkook just stares at him. "Are you scared they'll leave you or something?"

"Why are you doing this?" Jungkook asks suddenly.

Jackpot. Jimin thinks.

"So that is it. What? Afraid they'll realize just how uninteresting you are and leave you or something? It just might happen if you're not careful." Jimin chuckles, but once he sees Jungkook's brows knit, he kind of stops.

"I understand now." Jungkook nods. He meets Jimin's eyes. "I apologize for what I said about your height at school. I now understand why you became so upset over it." He says, spinning on his heel.

"Hey, where are you going?" Jimin calls after him, frowning.

"I need some alone time." Jungkook calls over his shoulder. Jimin watches him go. He should feel good right now, right? He won. So why does he feel like a shitty person for saying that? Is it maybe because he relates to it too?

"I shouldn't feel sorry for him." Jimin tells himself, looking towards the rising sun. "He's a nobody." He tries convincing himself. With that thought in mind, Jimin starts heading back home.

As he's about to turn into the driveway of his father's house, his phone rings. He looks at it and sighs before answering. "Mother..."

"Jimin, can you stop home today?" She asks her son.

"Why? You know this is my time with dad."

"I'm aware, but I need you to help Hyuk with something." She explains.

"Can't this wait until Monday?" Jimin sighs.

"No. You have school on Monday. You won't have any time to help me." His mother whines. Taking the phone away from his ear, Jimin takes a deep breath. He won't get angry, he won't get angry...

"Fine. I'll come over. I'll be there in ten minutes." Jimin says before abruptly hanging up. He turns and starts heading down the street towards his mother's house.

The walk is short and Jimin tries not to think about what will happen once he arrives there.

"You made it!" Jimin's mother smiles at her son, trying to pull him into a hug. He moves away from her though.

"What do you need my help with? After I'm done I'm going back home." Jimin says.

"What do you mean home? This is your home, and your father's shack is his home." His mother makes a disgusted face.

What a bitch. Jimin thinks. "Anyway, answer my question. What do you need me for?"

"Oh, come. Hyuk needs some help in the basement." Jimin follows his mother into the house and down into the enormous basement. He takes a look around at the familiar place.

"Jimin." Hyuk says Jimin's name loudly before walking over to him and slapping him on the back.

"Don't touch me." Jimin spits in disgust.

"Come on, don't be like this in front of your mother. It'll hurt her feelings." Hyuk frowns.

"She doesn't care about my feelings so why should I care about hers?" Jimin glares.

"Jimin, I can't believe you think that." His mother's brows furrow.

"Whatever. Just, what do you want?"

"We need to move this piece of equipment over there." Hyuk says, pointing to one of their many workout machines.

"Fine, whatever. Lets get it over with." Jimin shakes his head. So they do exactly that. They move the machine with ease, and Jimin's convinced Hyuk could've done it himself.

"Okay..." Jimin's mother speaks up. "If I'm going to be honest, that wasn't the real reason we called you over here." She smiles.

"Yeah, I could tell. So what is it?" Jimin asks, face and voice void of all emotion.

"Well, your mother and I have decided to take the next step in our relationship..." Hyuk begins with a smile. Jimin tenses up.

"We're getting married!" Jimin's mother exclaims. She grins at her son, waiting for him to congratulate them or something, but it doesn't come.

"Wow, way to fuck your life up a second time." Jimin shakes his head.

"Jimin!"

"Hey, don't you talk to your mother like that!" Hyuk yells at him.

"And who the fuck are you to talk to me like this? You're not my fucking father." Jimin argues.

"Don't talk to him this way, Jimin!" His mother sniffles.

"You're seriously taking this asshole's side? I'm your son. Doesn't that mean anything to you?" Jimin questions.

"You should respect those older than you." His mother tells him.

"I can't fucking believe this..." Jimin is shocked, but he really shouldn't be. This isn't the first time his mother has sided with her boyfriend—now fiancé.

"And watch your language." Hyuk tries to tell Jimin, but Jimin isn't listening. He walks up the stairs and out the door without looking back.

He makes it to his father's house and storms inside, still angry. But then he notices his dad waddling our of his bedroom with a tired look on his face.

"You're awake." Jimin can feel his tension going away.

"Oh, hey." Park Taehyun smiles at his son. He walks over to him and pulls him into a hug. Jimin relaxes completely in his father's embrace. "What's wrong?"

Jimin swallows hard, tears threatening to escape his eyes. "Mom and Hyuk are engaged." Jimin whispers. Taehyun freezes for a moment before continuing to rub his son's back lovingly.

"If they're happy, that's all that matters." He shrugs.

Jimin shakes his head, tears falling. He pulls away from his father to look at him. "How can you say that? You still love her, don't you?"

"Of course I do, and when you love someone, all you want for them is happiness, even if that means you're not part of it." Taehyun shrugs. "That's just the way the world works sometimes, Jiminie."

"Dad..." Jimin sniffles before burying his face in his father's chest.

"It's okay." His father coos. "Hey, how about I go get us breakfa—"

"How about I make breakfast?" Jimin wipes his eyes with his sleeve. "What money do you have buy breakfast right now?" Jimin shakes his head.

"Well, I could scrape together a few dollars... probably..." Taehyun shrugs.

"Jesus, dad." Jimin can't help but laugh at the situation. "I'll make us something. You clean up in here. I did what I could last night, but it's still a little bit of a mess." Jimin says. Taehyun nods.

Jimin heads into the kitchen, leaving his father alone. The 40-year-old father sighs. His son is amazing. Even though he has a deadbeat dad, and a materialistic mother, he turned out incredible.

"I have to get better. For him." Taehyun whispers to himself. With that resolution in his mind, he begins cleaning.
