I woke up before alarm went off. The room was quiet, just a bit of morning light slipping through the curtains. I didn't feel tired, just .... Restless.
My first day at work was today
I sat up and rubbed my face, letting out a slow breath. ARI had left cloths for me again neatly folded on the chair like always. I changed into them without thinking too much. White shirt, gray jacket, black pants. Everything felt clean and new.
Too new, honestly.
I still wasn't used to how soft everything was in this world.
Once I was ready, I walked to the kitchen. ARI was already here, flipping toast in the pan and humming to himself like this was just another normal day.
"You're early" he said, glancing over his shoulder. "I couldn't sleep much" I mumbled.
He smiles and nodded "figure. Sit, I made You breakfast"
I sat down at the table while he placed a plate in front of me - toast, eggs and a small bowl of cut fruit. Simple, but it smelled good.
"You don't have to eat everything", he said as he poured tea into a cup "but at least have something before you go"
I nodded and took a bite, my stomach was wiredly tense, but i didn't want to show it.
Ari placed a small pouch next to my cup. it smelled familiar "lavender" he said "keep it in your pocket might help if you feel nervous".
I didn't say anything, just picked it up and slipped it into my jacket. It was comforting in a quite way.
He pointed to the cloth bag by the door "I packed your lunch. Water bottle inside too. Nothing fancy".
I looked at him and gave a small nod.
"thanks"
He leaned against the counter, looking at me for a second. "noa you don't have to do everything right today. Just try your best, okay? that's enough".
I looked down at my hands"I'll try".
That's all I could promise. Just trying.
I stood up, grabbed the bag, and walk to the door. My fingers hovered over the handle for a second.
Ari's voice came from behind me "and if anything feels off .... You can come back. I mean it".
I turned a little and meet his eyes. He looks serious.
"I know" I said quietly, and then he waved as I walk away. I didn't look back but I could feel him standing there.
I didn't know what was waiting for me at lucien company but for the first time in a long time i didn't feel like running.
The air outside was worm. The sky was clear. People were already moving around, busy with their lives. It felt strange walking out alone - but not in a bad way.
Just unfamiliar.
I tightened my grip on the bag and kept walking. This was new. But it was mine now.
