Kat and Sophia entered work at 3:10, luckily Henry was used to having several of his workers arrive at that time, since it was normal for him to give work to students who were about to graduate, in that way he helped them with the expenses that many of them had.
"Well, I'll be in the kitchen, your uniform is in the locker area, Henry surely already put your name on one so you can leave your belongings," Kat told her while showing her where she should change.
Sophia quickly found the locker that corresponded to her, put the backpack inside and put on the apron, Henry gave her the notebook where she would write down the orders and two pens, he asked her to tie her hair up and told her which tables should be served by her.
"So you're the new one," a rather tall boy with black hair came over to greet her, "my name is Tommy, I'm the one who makes the coffees in the afternoon so we'll be partners," he had a contagious smile, but from afar you could tell he was the typical womanizer.
"Hello, my name is Sophia," she replied, also smiling, suddenly the air turned cold and she felt a penetrating gaze in the middle of her back.
She turned around looking everywhere to see where that sensation came from and it was there when she noticed that the twins and several other people were sitting at one of the tables in the back, they were looking at her in a cold and even angry way, but not understanding what was happening to them, she just continued in her work world.
That sector did not correspond to her, so she calmed down and began to take orders from the tables that were her territory, luckily she knew perfectly how to perform as a waitress, since the kiosk where she had worked before also had two or three little tables where some stayed with their computers working and she eventually attended them.
"Hello, good afternoon, my name is Sophia and I will be your waitress, what would you like to order?" she told an elderly couple who had sat near the window.
"Hello little one, you are very beautiful, you could bring me a ham and cheese toast and a soda and my husband wants a coffee with two croissants," the lady said politely.
"I'll bring them right away," she said returning to the bar to leave the paper with the order.
"Excuse me, are you Sophia?" a waitress said rudely.
"Yes, that's me," she replied.
"Well, attend the table over there," she said pointing to where several of her colleagues were.
"That table does not correspond to her," Henry said while preparing the coffees he had ordered.
"I already explained to them, but they want her," she said looking Sophia up and down contemptuously.
"It's okay, I'll go," she said shrugging her shoulders. This day could not get any worse for her.
"Good afternoon, my name is Sophia and I will be your waitress," she told them as soon as she arrived at the table, the laughter of the 3 women suddenly stopped and when she looked up everyone was watching her, some with hatred, others with curiosity and the twins as if mocking her.
"Hello kitten, the uniform looks good on you," Dante said smiling.
"Bring sodas for everyone, weirdo," Kity said and both she and the other two women began to laugh.
"I'll be right back with your order," she told them and turned around to get away from there as quickly as possible.
Once the older couple's order was ready, she hurried to take it to them.
"I hope you enjoy your meal," she said smiling.
"You are very kind, precious, I hope your stay in this town is pleasant," the lady said.
"I hope so, thank you very much," she replied and went for the sodas of her colleagues.
Just when she was about to put the tray on the boys' table, one of the girls who was closest to her stepped on her foot, causing her to stumble with the tray and fall to the floor with the entire contents of the glasses, shattering the glass in the place. Sophia didn't even stand up, she just knelt down and began to gather all the fragments while the women laughed out loud and the men just watched her.
"Leave that, you can hurt yourself," Tommy's hand rested on her shoulder and helped her get up.
"Oh, the knight in shining armor came to the rescue, she's fine, she should just be more careful," Kity said amused.
"Next time look where you're walking, maybe that way you'll avoid running into my foot," the girl who had made her trip replied.
Sophia didn't even turn to see them, she just continued to gather the glass and once she finished she went to get a floor cloth to clean up all the soda mess from the floor. Tommy who stayed when she left, looked one by one at all those who were sitting and before leaving shook his head.
"I hope no one ever brings you down from that cloud you live on," he told Kity and left.
Sophia cleaned everything and returned with the glasses of soda that they had asked for, luckily they didn't order anything else and left quite quickly. For some reason that she didn't want to dwell on, they spent 200 pesos on everything, but left her a tip of double. She went to tell Henry, because maybe it was because of the things that had been broken, but the owner explained that it belonged to her and that he would not discount anything, since Tommy had explained what had really happened.
The shift came to an end and Sophia had to wait for Kat to finish cleaning the kitchen, once everything was ready, both left and got into the car.
"I heard what happened with Kity, I'm very sorry, she is daddy's spoiled girl and since she is with Caleb she is even worse than before," she told her when they arrived at Sophia's house.
"That doesn't matter, it's only 9 months that I have to endure," she replied.
"9 months?" she asked curiously.
"In 9 months I will turn 18 and I can leave this house and surely I will also leave the town," she replied forcing a smile.
"Sophia, I know we barely met today, but you know that if you need it you can count on me, right?" she told her understanding that she was hiding something.
"Thank you Kat, I really appreciate it," she told her greeting her and getting out of the car.
She entered her house and the first thing she felt was the pull that Darrel gave her, he had grabbed her so hard by the arm that for a moment she thought he was going to break it.
"Where the hell were you? You were probably being a whore like your mother," the smell of alcohol coming from his mouth twisted her stomach, she had eaten a little in the cafeteria.
"Let me go, I just got off work," she told him struggling to try to break free.
"Don't you dare lie to me, we arrived yesterday and you already have a job," he squeezed her arm harder and slammed her against the wall, "if you're going to be a whore out there, I don't know why you don't let me take you too," he put his other hand on her waist.
"Don't touch me," she screamed and with her free hand she hit him with all her strength in his face and before he got even more furious, she raised her knee and gave it to him in his parts. When he let her go, she ran upstairs and locked herself in her room, she put the old dresser that was there behind the door to prevent him from entering, this would be another night in which she would have to keep watch.
