I stood leaning against the classroom wall, looking up at the sky.
Mostly wondering something mundane like—
If a ninja attacked me right now, what would be my chances of survival?
Probably zero.
My stupid ass would probably kill myself with my own stupidity before the ninja even got a chance.
I looked down at my shoes.
The left one was still soaked, and my left foot felt like a soggy sponge.
So, my genius brain decided to air it out.
I slipped it halfway off and started swinging it lazily from my toes.
That’s when it happened.
It slipped off my foot and flopped down the balcony.
OH SHIT!
I immediately ran forward, trying to catch it—
Too late.
It fell straight on the freaking principal’s head.
“OW!”
Followed by him yelling, “WHO THREW A SHOE AT ME?!”
NOW I’M DEAD.
I backed away as fast as I could, heart racing, watching him look around, trying to spot the criminal.
Thankfully, he didn’t see me.
I crawled back to my original spot and awkwardly hid my left leg behind the wall.
I was praying—PRAYING—he wouldn’t find me.
Suspension was a real possibility. Maybe even arrest. Public shoe assault.
Just then, the classroom door creaked open.
It was Kai.
“…Why are you barefoot?”
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“…What did you do?”
“Nothing illegal. Technically.”
He stepped forward and glanced over the balcony.
“You threw your shoe at THE PRINCIPAL?!”
“IT SLIPPED!”
“THAT’S NOT THE POINT!”
“STOP YELLING!”
My eyes were immediately drawn to the stairs as I saw a figure coming up.
"He’s coming!" I exclaimed.
"With your shoe," Kai added.
"What do I do now?!"
"Hide!"
"Where?!"
Just then, he pulled me back, hiding me behind him.
I was pressed between him and the wall, my heart thumping loudly against my chest.
Please don’t find me. Please don’t find me.
The principal stormed toward Kai, holding my soaked shoe like it was evidence in a murder case.
"Did you see anyone standing here? Somebody threw this shoe at me!"
"Whaaat?? Somebody threw a shoe at our principal?! Who had that kind of audacity?!"
Idiot, you’re a terrible actor!
"Did you see anyone doing it?"
"Um… no, sir. I just got here."
The principal squinted at him, as if trying to scan his brain for the truth.
"Why are you standing so weird?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Uhh… my legs are paining… so…"
The principal gave Kai one last suspicious look before finally walking away.
Both of us exhaled in perfect sync, sighing in relief.
Kai turned around to face me, his height towering over mine.
I looked up at him, heat crawling up my cheeks.
“You cause so much trouble…” he muttered, flicking my forehead.
“Oww! You idiot, that hurts!” I yelped, rubbing the spot.
“You deserved it! Who throws a shoe at the principal?!”
“It was an accident!”
He sighed dramatically, like he was used to my chaos.
A few minutes later, class was dismissed, and of course, Miss Patrixson didn’t leave without throwing one last glare in my direction.
“What do I do now..? How do I get my shoe back..?” I mumbled, looking helplessly at my one bare foot.
“You sit in the classroom. I’ll bring it,” he said, already turning to leave.
Given no other option, I obeyed and sat at my desk, watching him walk away.
Fifteen minutes later, he returned, holding my shoe.
My eyes widened. “Wait—how did you get it back?!”
“I have my ways,” he said smugly, a little too proud of himself.
As I bent down to take the shoe from him, he surprised me—kneeling on one knee, gently taking my foot in his hand, and slipping the shoe on like some twisted modern Cinderella scene.
A shiver ran up my leg at the way his fingers brushed against my skin.
I didn’t know if I was blushing from embarrassment or something else entirely.
