One Way Of Falling

“You'll eventually melt that rose.” Aki made no noise when he entered, startling Serene.

“I won't”, she said, pouting at him.

Serene looked at the time and told Aki to clear all her appointments. Aki was about to call her but she ran as quickly as she could.

After hopping in her car, she went straight to K Café.

“Welcome! Oh, it's you, uhmm...Miss Serene.” Kieya, the owner of the coffee shop said as she saw the woman who walked in. “Just Serene, Kieya”, Serene replied while smiling. Her smile that time was genuine. She was also startled to see herself being glad to meet her again.

Kieya, was shocked to see her smile. It made her welcome her with warmth and a cheerful smile.

“This apple pie is genius!”, Serene exclaimed. She had never tasted anything better than this, “That's too much. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to have such praise.” Kieya embarrassingly said. Serene, who labeled this act of Kieya as cute said, “you deserve it, really!”

Kieya with flushed cheeks, smiled as brightly as she could. “Thanks!” When Serene saw her smile, she couldn't help but be overwhelmed. She noticed herself being conscious of Kieya's presence. Their talk continued to go on and on. About University, the future, hobbies, worries, and their love for things such as flowers.

It was unknown to Serene, that kind of affection. She would sometimes find herself glancing at Kieya's direction just to see her face, her smile.

“You're doomed.” Serene missed her target. Aki was going on and on about things like Serene being doomed and that her ideas are finally crumbling. “Ah! You made me miss it. What's wrong with you?” She said to him while grumbling. She walked over the dart board.

“You know it more than I do. I'm warning you, Serene. Stop all of this as early as you can. Before you regret it.” After that a loud bang was heard. Aki went out. Serene continued to play with darts in silence.

Present day...

“She's finally back”, Aki said. “What do you want me to do? Hug her? She'll probably shoot me if I did.” Serene replied.

After a scoff Aki spoke again, “Probably? No, it should be certainly. She will shoot you.”

Serene rolled her eyes. “The conference starts at 7, right?” She said while holding her phone. Aki squinted his eyes, “yes?” Serene smiled after hearing his response, “perfect!” She stood up and grabbed her keys. But Aki blocked her. “And your destination is?” He asked.

“K Café.”

Serene went inside the café. She had a hard time running away from Aki this time. “Serene! Here!” After seeing Kieya waving at her she immediately greeted her.

“This lady said she knows you.” With both of her palms, Kieya pointed at the woman sitting beside her. It gave Serene the shock of her life. She glared at the woman Kieya was talking about. “I heard that you frequent this place, Kieya. I must say, it is indeed likable.” The woman said after putting down a cup of tea that she was sipping and looked at Serene's eyes.

Serene's eyes were filled with worry and confusion. She angrily sneered at the woman, “What are you doing here? Maiy!”
