LAURA:
Stepping outside the mansion, I was surprised by the beautiful and lovely gardens that surround the luxurious residence... I love it.
"It seems it's been a long time since you've been out, my lady."
I turn slowly and observe a smiling, flirtatious boy.
He bows to me without stopping smiling.
"That's right, Lord Adrian."
I affirm, looking at him with a cautious half-smile. I know that behind that smiling and flirtatious boy hides a cold and bloodthirsty vampire, it's not for nothing that he's the second in command of Duke Victor Cortes.
"Uncle Adrian, are you traveling with us?"
The girl asks, looking at Adrian with a bright smile.
"That's right, little Mia."
"Great!"
Says the excited girl, while the boy looks at everything with boredom and a poker face... What a weird kid.
"It's time to leave."
I hear my husband's deep voice that makes me turn to admire him a little more... The truth is that he's good-looking... I don't know how long it's been since I've had some fresh meat hahaha.
The vampire ignores my scrutiny and begins to give orders until it's time to get into the carriage.
I'm the first to get in, then both children and finally Victor. The three of them take a seat in front of me and for me that's good, I have the opportunity to admire the man who will soon be my delicious dessert, but in the meantime I'm just going to watch.
Everything would have been better if I had some sunglasses.
Without warning, the carriage starts and I lurch forward, holding myself with both hands that press against my husband's hard legs.
"Are you okay?"
I hear his question and delicately, as if nothing had happened, I return to my seat.
"Yes."
I answer while feeling that sensation of the hard legs in my hands... I should have touched higher...
The hours pass and the children sleep peacefully on top of their father while I can't stand another minute in this house.
"Are we there yet?"
I ask my husband who only looks out the window without uttering a word.
"We've only been an hour, Duchess. Did so much time locked up make you forget the way?"
"Apparently yes... How long until we arrive?"
The vampire looks at me fixedly for a few seconds and then says.
"We will arrive at nightfall."
When I hear those words I feel like my world is falling apart.
"A whole day in this thing? No, I prefer a horse."
Victor furrows his brow and again nails those beautiful eyes on me.
"You're acting very strange, Duchess."
He says in a low voice and my heart stops.
Shit, I forgot that the former owner of this body barely spoke and never looked at the duke, always kept her gaze down.
I settle better in the carriage and show a relaxed smile.
"I had a horrible dream and decided that I must change my lifestyle."
He raises his eyebrows and shows interest.
"Oh? What did you dream?"
"I dreamed that I was a lonely old woman and I died in the solitude of my room without anyone around me."
"That's not a horrible dream."
"For me it is, Duke."
"Oh, so... Will you stop insisting on the divorce to marry that baron?"
I narrow my eyes a little without showing emotion on my face... That means that the Duke was aware of everything.
"Yes, it's not worth divorcing, I live very well."
The Duke starts laughing and I watch as two long teeth protrude from his lips.
"Laura, Laura... What do you want? You know? I've never believed in such sudden changes."
His face darkens and his two canines protrude more.
"I don't want anything, just to live quietly and in peace."
"Peace? I'm impressed that someone like you is talking about peace when you are allied with Baron Harrison."
I frown not understanding what he means.
"I don't understand..."
"Yes, that's what I thought."
He says hitting the carriage and it stops abruptly.
"I think I'd better go on horseback."
It's the last thing he says before leaving the carriage, but not before settling the children.
I sink into my thoughts remembering every detail of Laura's life, but there are blank spaces that I can't remember... Could it be that Laura had something to do with the death of the children and the Duke?
The carriage starts to move and I feel someone's heavy gaze so I look at Albert who is staring at me with his sour face.
"I don't understand what you see in that simple baron, my father is more handsome and richer... The truth is that I don't understand women."
The boy says without showing expression on his face and I raise my eyebrows surprised.
"You're too young to be talking about those things."
"I'm going to be seven years old, I have the ability to understand what is right and what is wrong, what I don't understand is why adults act worse than a child."
Wait... Has this child offended me?
"Are you offending me?"
"I would never offend you Duchess Cortes, I'm just saying the reality of some adults and you are included."
"Wow, I must say that for being a child of almost seven years you are very intelligent."
"Of course, I am a handsome, intelligent child and on top of that, the future heir to my father's entire fortune."
"Wow, what an ego you carry."
I watch the boy smile for the first time, but he immediately hides it in his typical angry face as always.
I look at him with some sadness and the truth is that I would like to give them all the affection and motherly love, but I must go step by step so they don't suspect that another soul inhabits this body.
