Episode 4

The Next Day

Anna struggled to get out of bed that morning; she did not want to go back to school and face Heidi and Jake. She didn’t even want to get the bus with Heidi. Knowing that she had to go to school, Anna got up, stretched, yawned and got ready for school. She went to her wardrobe, flung the doors open and tried to find a cute outfit to wear. After five minutes of trying to find something cute to wear, she settled on a pink off the shoulder top, nice denim jeans and white shoes. She brushed her hair and wore it down. Anna hated the colour of her hair.

Why does my hair have to be light brown? Why can it not be blonde or dark brown? They look so much cuter on a girl.

Before walking out of her bedroom, Anna looks at herself in the mirror and sighs.

Was Sybil really telling the truth when she said that I was really pretty? I mean, look at me, I’m so ugly. I can’t tell if Sybil was just trying to butter me up or if she was being genuine.

Anna quickly fixes her hair and goes downstairs to leave for school. Before leaving, she hears the tv coming from her living room. Her father was inside watching the tv. He was watching the news.

‘Two people were brutally murdered last nightl,’ said the female news reporter. ‘Their bodies were both found in the same bed last night. The police are still trying to find out more. So far, all they know is that the person who killed them must have been very smart and stealthy. No one in the family remembered hearing anybody open the door that night. By the looks of it, neither of the teenagers knew about it either. We will inform you about this much more later on tonight at seven pm. That’s all for today.’

The news then ended and Anna went out the door. She did not want to be late for school again. While walking to her bus stop, she thought about the two murders that were mentioned on the tv. It sounded like the police still didn’t know who killed them.

As soon as Anna arrived at her bus stop, the bus came driving down. When the bus doors opened, Anna went inside, scanned her card and went to take a seat. She wanted to avoid sitting anywhere near Heidi but she also did not want to not sit beside Heidi as she would seem rude. As soon as Anna got to where Heidi and her normally sit, she realised that Heidi was not there.

That’s weird. Heidi is normally here everyday. She is never late to school either. Maybe she’s being driven to school today.

The whole journey to school Anna sat on the bus in silence, playing on her phone. She was playing some games when she got a text message from a random number. She clicked on the message and read what it said.

“Are you happy? This was all for you, Anna. You were so hurt yesterday, I had to do it to them.” Do what to who? Happy about what? I’ll just ignore them, they’re probably a prank number or scammer or something.

Anna blocked the number and waited for the bus to arrive at Kingsmill high. As soon as the bus got there, she quickly went inside the school. As soon as she went in, there was a lot of people talking. The whole school was buzzing, they all had a very worried look on their faces, though.

What’s going on?

‘Anna!’ greeted Sybil.

‘Oh, hey, Sybil,’ greeted Anna, not expecting the sudden welcome.

‘Did you hear?’

‘Hear what?’

‘Heidi and Jake were both murdered last night by a mysterious person.’

‘What? They were the ones on the news?’

‘Yeah. At least you don’t have to worry about them now, though.’

‘I don’t have to worry about them, I have to worry about the murderer in town. This is the first murder to ever happen in this town. How do I know I won’t be one of their victims?’

‘I doubt you’ll be the murderers victim, Anna.’

‘How do you know?’

‘I just do. Besides, they’re only out there to kill people for revenge.’

‘How do you know?’

‘Uh…my dad’s a cop. He knows this stuff.’

‘But you’re an orphan.’

‘Orphans get adopted, you know.’

‘Oh, yes, right.’

‘Anyway, let’s go to form.’

Anna and Sybil both started walking to form. Sybil was talking to Anna the whole time but Anna wasn’t listening to her. She was lost in her own thoughts.

Why were Heidi and Jake killed? What did they do to the murderer? This is so strange. Also, why does Sybil seem so proud and happy? She also seems to know a lot about the murderer. Eh, I’m sure it’s nothing. Poor Jake and Heidi. Even though they both really hurt me, they don’t deserve this.
