Episode 5: Girl at the canal

Time passed and evening arrived. Lori walked along with Jasmine and Alex followed. They talked on their way. "So, this boy Ethan is basically an introvert who has no friends except you"

"Yea, pretty much" said Alex. Lori stayed silent over this time. Her maroon eyes gazed over the canal as they were passing the bridge.

"She is sad again...."she whispered. "Who is?"Jasmine questioned. Lori shook up in surprise,"Huh?Oh, No,nothing." Lori dashed ahead as Alex shrugged to Jasmine. "Bye then!", he said. Lori had already disappeared.

She walked a few distance and hid at the corner of the wall of a house. Alex and Jasmine walked away from the bridge. Lori came out then and walked down the slope.

A little girl wearing a white dress sat on the bank crying."What happened today? Why are you crying again?" She looked up, her eyes glittered with pearl like tears,"Lori-nee, what do I do, I just don't understand why I am sad, I can't stop crying. I thought I accepted this, but I still can't overcome it."

Lori sat down, " It has already been ten years, you should accept the fact that you're dead already. Maybe your acceptance is not the real reason. Tell me the truth."

"Today is the day I died, it was an accident, I was playing with my brother and we were betting on running across the railing. My brother tripped and I was holding onto him. As I pulled him up,I slipped and no one held onto me. Not even the brother I saved." The dress started to blacken.

Lori stopped her,"No, he is not responsible for your death, you both were kids,and he was probably paralyzed by shock. Calm down or else you will become an vengeful spirit."

Her dress returned to white and she wailed,"I want to meet him now, I want to.Nobody came to look for me. I want to meet him."

Lori patted her head,"So, that was your wish, let me see what I can do. Can you tell me your address, maybe I can bring your brother here soon."

The girl lit up,"Will you really do that? Will you?". "Yes, I will, so don't cry anymore." She patted the girl's head and smiled. The girl faded into the dark night as Lori left. She climbed up the slope and walked down the street.

She snuck into the convenience store and bought some snacks quickly. She walked to her home and turned the lock. The sound of door clicking brought her neighbour to the door.

She said,"Lori! Is this the time to come home."

Lori sighed,"I went to buy some vegetables. Here you are, Mrs.Theo." The neighbour scurred through the bag checking every corner and then handed the bag back to Lori.

"You got me worried, at least respond to the messages. Your parents left me with such their lovely daughter, this is the only way I can repay them." sighed Mrs.Theo.

On entering the house Lori sighed and locked the door. She took a bath and sat down with her homework, then checked through her phone for the ghost child's profile.

She found the accident case and saved it. Mrs.Theo then called her for dinner."Why are you researching someone's case again. Moreover you dare to do so on the dinner table."

"Sorry about that."Lori apologized. Mrs.Theo looked at her questioningly.The Theos had three children, two twin brothers and a little girl.

They curiously looked at Lori wanting to ask her about the case and why she was researching it, but kept quiet on fear of being scolded.

Lori smiled and returned home soon after.
