*Ava's POV*
Hearing such words come from the man I once loved hit me harder than a knife to the chest, how could the man, who once loved and adored me so passionately stare at me nonchalantly, and utter words as cold as ice yet as sharp as the tip of a sword.
I had no idea of the right way forward, he had me locked by the neck the moment I finally caught a whip of freedom. Elias, the man I was loved...was gone, completely, he had erased any trace of me from his life.
Meeting each other finally after years, just had to be in this way.
"H-how much would it cost for the damage?"; I asked, avoiding to meet his eyes.
"Ten million "
"Ten million???"; I gasped from shock. "There's no way, can you reduce the price in anyway? Maybe something like an IOU or a discount please?"; I pleaded, my heart sinking into my stomach.
"No"
"How about I pay it in installment?"
"Then we'll meet each other at court "; he said, turning his back to face me as he walked towards his car. At that moment, I knew my life was over. I had to do something and quick, I ran over as hurriedly as I could, grabbing him by the hand, pulling him back.
"Please don't, I'd do anything you ask of me"; my body trembling, I was desperate and had no options left, my eyes searched frantically through his, hoping I could find him, the person I was once knew.
"Anything?"; he asked, his lips cracking into a grin. "Even strip naked right here?"; I stumbled backwards letting go of his hand, his remarks dealing a fatal blow to my pride and dignity.
"...Yes, anything you please"; I hesitated but answered, swallowing every bit of pride and dignity I had, tears flowed down my cheeks hopelessly, blurring my vision. Honestly, I did not know why I was in tears, was it because of his words which felt so strange and cold to me or how I shamelessly agreed to his request, but what I was certain off at that moment was how heartbroken I was.
Frowning, he walked back into his car, I knew all hope was lost but to prepare myself to face him at court.
"I'll let my assistant get in touch with you"; he said, as I watched him drive off, this sudden turn of events left me puzzled and bewildered.
I got back into my car, resting my head gently against the wheel trying to wrap my head around what had happened, no matter how much I thought, I still couldn't understand the reason for his sudden request and change of mind. The Elias I knew, was a principled man, never bending his rules for anyone neither could just anyone change his mind that easily.
When I'm overwhelmed and confused or could hardly think straight, there was always one person I went to... I launched forward for my phone, as Jasmine's name flashed on the screen.
"Speak of the devil"; I mouthed and answered the call
"Hey Girl, how ya doin? It been
a long time hearing from you, looks like I'm no longer on your list of favorite people to call"; she joked playfully, regaining her composure when I failed to play along.
"What's wrong?"
"Can we talk?"; I said in a low tone, my voice feeling down.
"Wanna come over?"; she asked.
"How about we meet up at the coffee shop, I'll text you the location"
"Alright, I'll be there in twenty minutes exempting any traffic there may be"; she chuckled, hanging up the phone.
