“To awaken is to remember what the soul once forgot.”

[Scene: Kaliyun Village – Edge of the Great Azure Forest | Midnight | Storm Approaching]
The sky churned like a cauldron of roiling ink, thunder growling low like the breath of an ancient beast. Lightning carved ghostly veins across the dark clouds, illuminating the jagged silhouette of the Great Azure Forest in white flashes. The wind howled through the thatched rooftops of Kaliyun Village, shrieking like a spirit unchained.
Yet amidst the gathering chaos, a boy stood alone.
Barefoot on the highest hill that overlooked the village, arms outstretched as if to catch the lightning itself — Max.
Sixteen winters old. Orphaned before he could speak. A helper in the rice fields by day, a watcher of stars and dreamer of worlds by night. He had always felt different — not better, not worse, just… other. The elders called him a cloud-headed fool, lost in thought, speaking to trees and chasing lights that no one else could see.
But tonight, he felt it. Change.
The villagers had long fled indoors, shuttering their windows and muttering of bad omens. Whispers spoke of "the cursed hour" — a time once every decade when the forest whispered too loud, and lightning walked without rain.
Max remained.
The rain hadn't yet started, but the air shimmered with strange pressure, thick like held breath. His heart pounded against his ribs, faster with every second. He clutched the old pendant that had hung around his neck since infancy — a dull jade disc, cracked across the middle like a crescent moon. He had no memory of where it came from. Only that it had always been his.
Tonight, it pulsed.
His fingers tightened around it.
Suddenly — the wind stopped.
No rustling of grass. No groaning trees. No thunder. It was as if the world had been muted, like a string pulled too tight.
Then—
CRACK!
A blinding bolt of lightning struck the earth just meters from Max. He stumbled backward, heat lashing his skin. His ears rang. But when the glare faded…
There was nothing.
No crater. No flame. No scorch marks. Just a patch of grass now eerily still.
Max looked down — and gasped.
The pendant had grown hot. Too hot. He tried to pull it off, but it clung to his chest like molten metal. Then it fused — burning through his shirt and skin.
He screamed — and the world fell away.
⸻
[Scene Shift: Within the Soul]
He floated.
Not in air, nor in water, but in something more vast. Timeless. Elemental.
Endless space unfolded in all directions. Stars wheeled slowly above and below him. Wisps of galaxies curled like breath. Light and shadow danced on the edge of eternity.
A vast lotus, translucent and cosmic, bloomed beneath his feet. Its petals shimmered like woven constellations. At its center hovered a glowing orb — cracked, ancient, flickering with violet light like a dying flame.
Then, a voice — ageless and echoing, neither male nor female, yet heavy with memory.
"A fragment of the Origin… hidden within a dying world..."
Max’s eyes widened. His breath caught, though he wasn’t sure he was breathing at all.
"You… are chosen not by fate… but by consequence…”
The lotus pulsed beneath him, echoing with his heartbeat.
He reached out, fingers trembling.
The moment they brushed the orb—
BOOM!
A shockwave of heat, light, and unbearable pain surged through him.
Then — silence.
⸻
[Scene: Kaliyun Village – Dawn]
Max gasped awake.
Drenched in sweat. Lying on damp earth, surrounded by a circle of charred grass. His chest heaved as if he’d been pulled from drowning.
The pendant was gone.
In its place, a mark — a swirling spiral, glowing faintly with violet light. Warm. Alive.
He sat up slowly, the world quiet. The storm had passed. The air was still.
Around him, villagers stood in a wide circle, whispering.
Some with fear. Others with awe.
Old Wu, the village alchemist — wrinkled, bent like a willow, yet sharp-eyed — knelt beside him, peering closely.
His voice cracked. “You… you awakened Qi Sense on your own?”
Max blinked, confused. The words made no sense. Nothing did.
But inside him, something stirred.
Something vast.
Something ancient.
Something... awake.
The ember had been lit.
And soon… it would blaze.
