A Day In Her Life

One day Durga was sitting her class, a teacher was taking geography class. But Durga's focus wasn't in her class. She was just waiting for the moment that teacher will notice She didn't bring her book or homework and send her outside as punishment. But that teacher was so busy writing on the board that she didn't cheak anyone's homework. Durga was yawning as the teacher's lecture was sounding like a lullaby for her.

In some moment her head was on her back, which her benchmate was able to hear her soft snore.

Rupa : "Durga uth ja barna madam ne dekh liya to ajj teri khai nehi" She said whispering to her.

But Durga was already sleeping. After working in the neighbors house she became tired and often fall asleep at class. She used to work as a maid in their house. After she turned 14 her grandfather fell terribly ill, he wasn't able to go to work after that and was on complete rest. So to afford everyday necessary items she and her grandmother had to work at other's house as maid. Yesterday she had to work till today's dawn as there was a Puja at their neighbors house after that she didn't have any sleep.

Rupa was trying hard to wake her up but till that time their teacher noticed that commotion and came towards their bench.

Teacher didn't say anything but looking at her state she hit her hard with the wooden scale she was holding.

Durga woke up hurriedly.

Teacher  : "school mei kya tum sone ati ho?" She said in her high pitch voice making Durga jump at her place.

Everyone in class starts laughing.

Teacher  : "khamos ... mene kisiko apna muh kholne kaha tha kya?" She said angrily making the whole class go silent.

Teacher  : "aur tum... chalo apna homework nikalo" She said turning her attention to Durga.

Durga : "madam ji woh... woh homework nehi hua" She said looking down hoping the teacher to say her to stand outside the class holding her ear.

Teacher  : "to kya school sirf ghumne aur gappe ladane ati ho?" She asked angrily.

Durga stayed silent looking down. She doesn't really feel about her scolding as it was very common for her to scolded from teachers.

Teacher  : "aur tum... apna homework nikalo" She said to Rupa.

Rupa : "madam ji nehi hua" She said getting up from the sit bench.

Well, Durga and Rupa's condition was same. Both family was not able to buy books from them but they used to send them school so they can eat their stomach full.

The teacher told them both to stand outside till the lunch break. They both went outside happily as they now don't have to attend other classes too.

Rupa  : "teri bajah se is garmi mein hum bahar kharien huye hai" She said angrily.

Durga : "kya matlab ki meri baja se... khud to tu padai karke nehi ayegi aur jab madam bahar nikale to meri galti" She said wiping her face with her dupatta.

Rupa : "aur nehi to kya... agar tu na soti to to madam ka shyaan humare upar jata hi nehi aur hum is tarapti dopaher mein bahar dhup mei kale nehi pad rehe hote" She said covering her head with her dupatta.

Durga : "keh to aisi rehi hai ke tu aur mei jaise dooth si gori hai" She said in sarcastic tone.

Rupa : " ha to usme kya hai... hum kale hai to kya khud dhup se bhi na bachaye"

Durga : "kya hi karenge rup bachake... konsa rajkumar ayega hume lene"

Rupa : "sali kutti tu humesha mere sapno mein paani pher deti hai" She said whining like a kid.

Durga : "tu woh sab chhod ... pata a hai ajj midday meal mein ande milenge" She said excitedly.

Rupa : "sach mei?... tujhe kaise pata?" She asked curiously.

Durga : "are wo Asha maasi hai na... jo iha school mei khna banati hai... usne bataya"

Rupa : "oh.. waise tu ajj sham ko ayegi kya woh Rama maasi ki ped ki aam churane"

Durga : "nehi aa paungi.. mujhe ghar ja ke kaam par bhi jaana hai" She said her excitement fading.

Rupa : "to ek din chhutti lele"

Durga : "chhutti nehi kar sakte .. woh meri pagar kat legi. 100 rupey to pagar hai aur us se bhi agar kar lenge to kaise chalega ghar... upar se Nana ji ki tabiyat bhi theek nehi hai aur Nani bhi ab kaam kar nehi pati unke ghutno ke dard ke baja se" She said remembering the condition of her house.

Rupa : "to tu kaam chhod ke kahi aur kam pe lag ja"

Durga : "kaha dhundgi me kaam ... iye ek hi ghar he jaha par thodi zyada paise milte hai, baki jagah par to is se bhi zyada kam paise dete hai"

Rupa thought something in her mind and spoke up.

Rupa : " to tu phir mein jaha kaam karti hu woha ghus ja, pure 200 rupey pagad milta hai woha aur mein school mei hu to jab mijhe kaam rehta hai tab chhutti bhi mil jati hai"

Durga's face lights up at her proposal but then again it goes dull.

Durga : "par woh kya mujhe kaam pe rakhenge ?"

Rupa : " aree ha woh rakh lenge .. unka ghar bohot bara hai hai to bohot sare naukar hai, woh to dhund bhi rehete kuch aur naukar... kal tu mere sath ana mein baat karlungi unse" She said assuring her.

Durga: "tune to meri bohot badi mada kar di ... is aisan kaise chukaungi mein teri"

Rupa : "agar aisan chukana hi to ajana ajj shaam to mere sath ajj aam chori karne".

Hearing her they they both started laughing.

Durga : "waise tu kaha kaam karti hai?"

Rupa : "aree woh hamare gaon ke jo sarpanch hai na AMIT SHEKHAR CHOWDHRY, mein unhi ke ghar me kaam karti hu... pata hai unka jo ghar hai na woh bohot bada hai"

Durga : "sach mei?.."

Rupa : "haan.. tu kal ana mein tujhe dikhaingi"

After that they both continued their chatter till the tiffin break.

At Evening ~

At evening Durga was sitting at the backyard eating the raw mango with salt which she has stole from the neighbor's garden with Rupa when her grandmother came there.

Kamala Devi : "iye tu kya kha rehi hai?" She said suddenly making Durga finch.

Durga : "ji .. woh kuch bhi to nehi" She said nervously, hiding the bowl with her behind her.

Kamala Devi snatched the bowl from her hand which she was hiding behind.

Kamala Devi: "tu phir se aam kha rehi hai ... Tera pet kharab ho jayega.. iye chhori koi baat kyun nehi sunti. Pet mei dard hoga to ayegi mere pass rote huye".

Durga : "are Nani kuchh nehi hoga" She said whining.

Kamala Devi : "aur tu iha aise baithi hai.. kaam pe kyun nehi geyi?"

Durga : " are Nani mein ab se woha aur kaam par nehi jaungi ... mene dusra ghar dhund liya hai jaha par mei kaam karungi aur eoha pagar bhi zyada hai... pure 200 rupey denge woha"

Kamala Devi : "dusra ghar dhund ne ki kya zarurat thi .. ek jagah par kaam kar rehi thi na... pata nehi woha ke log kaise honge" She said worrying about her.

Durga : "are sarpanch ke ghar me kaam hai ... kuch bhi buda nehi hoga, ap chinta mat karo"

Kamala Devi : "beta ajj ke duniye mei koi bhi insan achha nehi hota ... tune kaam dhunda theek hai par woha par samhal ke kaam karna" She said concerning about her.

Durga : "mein samhal ke hi kaam karungi.. asp chinta mat kijiye aur Rupa bhi to eoha par karti hai, apko sarne ki koi zarurat nehi hai. Aap iye bataiye Nana ji ne khana khaya?" She asked her to change the topic.

Kamala Devi: "Haa unhone kha liya hai... tu bhi chal ap khana kha ke jaldi so ja.. ankhein teri kitni ghus heyi hai andar neend na hone ke waja se"

Durga : "achha chaliye phir"

After that they both had their dinner while discussing the those things they both dud the whole day.
