Chapter 3: Shadows Between the School Bells
Haruto had only one thought as he lay in bed that night:
“My life is spiraling.”
Up until two days ago, his biggest problem was accidentally forgetting his math homework. Now? He had a magical queen living in his world, sitting beside him in class, feeding him celestial bento lunches, and warning him that something “not of this realm” had crossed into Earth.
He rolled onto his side.
“Maybe it’s all a dream,” he mumbled.
But the glowing paper crane from his pencil case blinked at him and chirped softly.
“…Right.”
---
The next morning.
Haruto arrived at school early, mostly to avoid the magical chaos that seemed to follow Celestia like perfume. But as he entered the gates, he found something… odd.
The campus felt unusually quiet. The air was thick, like the moment before a thunderstorm. His classmates moved slower, eyes distant. A faint, dark mist clung to the corners of the building like an invisible fog only he could see.
“Okay… definitely not normal,” Haruto muttered.
Then he saw her.
Celestia stood at the center of the courtyard, her hair shimmering faintly like starlight. She looked deadly serious, hands folded behind her back, a floating rune circling her left wrist.
“You sense it too,” she said without turning.
Haruto swallowed. “That’s not a cold front, is it?”
“No. A presence slipped through the veil last night,” she said. “And it’s already begun warping reality.”
“Warping what?”
She finally turned to him, eyes glowing faintly.
“This place… it’s not just a school anymore. It’s become a doorway.”
---
Meanwhile… in the third-floor music room
The shadows curled unnaturally, despite the morning sun outside. The instruments in the room stood silent—except one.
A grand piano began playing itself. The tune was haunting, a melody that didn’t quite belong.
Then, the mist took shape.
From it stepped the robed figure—the man who had crossed through the veil. His silver hair flowed like liquid moonlight, and his crimson eyes gleamed with mischief.
“So this is Earth,” he murmured. “Lacking elegance… but ripe with energy.”
He extended a hand. The piano exploded into a swirl of black notes that vanished into his palm.
“Let’s greet my dear Celestia properly.”

Back in Class 2-B
Haruto tried to pay attention. Really. But it was hard to focus when his magical desk neighbor was quietly tracing runes onto her textbook and whispering to floating crystals behind her pencil case.
Also, the classroom clock had been ticking backward for the past five minutes.
Yuki raised a hand. “Sensei, why is it 8:66 AM?”
The teacher stared blankly. “That’s… not a real time.”
Celestia stood abruptly. “Everyone. Out of the classroom. Now.”
Haruto blinked. “Wait, what?”
“I’m detecting distortion energies converging here. This room’s being targeted.”
Before anyone could argue, a loud creak echoed from the hallway.
The classroom door opened by itself. Mist spilled in like a living creature.
And then… the lights went out.
---
The windows darkened. Desks trembled.
From the mist, a shape emerged—tall, elegant, and impossibly calm.
“Well, well,” said the intruder. “Still as dramatic as ever, Celestia.”
Celestia’s eyes narrowed. “Lazriel.”
Haruto looked between them. “Wait—you know this guy?”
“He’s a former Archmage of the Eldorian Court,” Celestia said. “Exiled for trying to conquer two dimensions.”
“Three,” Lazriel corrected with a smirk. “I had ambition.”
He turned toward Haruto.
“So… this is the human you crossed realms for?”
Haruto raised a hand awkwardly. “Uh, hi?”
Lazriel tilted his head. “Doesn’t look like much.”
Celestia stepped in front of Haruto, cape billowing.
“Touch him, and I’ll seal you in the abyss again.”
Lazriel chuckled. “Relax. I only came to say hello. But since you’re feeling so defensive—”
He snapped his fingers.
The shadows surged forward.
---
Celestia’s magic flared.
In a blink, a glowing barrier surrounded her and Haruto. The shadows slammed into it, hissing like smoke on fire.
“I knew you wouldn’t come just to talk,” she said.
Lazriel smiled. “You know me well.”
Then he vanished into the mist, which retreated down the hallway like a wave pulled back by the tide.
The lights flickered back on.
Yuki stood frozen, holding a chair like a weapon.
“…Did I miss something?”
Later that day, on the rooftop again…
Haruto sat on the bench, legs still trembling.
Celestia joined him, offering a small tea cup.
“This blend calms nerves,” she said.
“Is it safe?”
“It only makes your ears glow if you drink three cups.”
“…I’ll risk one.”
He sipped.
Silence fell between them, the spring breeze brushing past like nothing had happened.
But they both knew everything had changed.
“Why is he here?” Haruto finally asked.
Celestia’s gaze was distant. “Because if he gains access to both worlds… he can merge them. No borders. No rules. Just chaos.”
“And I’m stuck in the middle of this?”
She looked at him gently. “You’re not just in the middle, Haruto. You’re the reason I’m here. Which means… he’ll come for you again.”
Haruto rubbed his face. “I just wanted to survive high school.”
She smiled. “Then I suggest learning some defensive spells.”
He froze. “Wait—me?”
Her grin widened. “Why not? I’ll teach you.”
“I can barely handle math.”
“And yet, you handled a magical lunch. You’re already braver than most.”
He groaned. “I’m doomed.”
Celestia held out her hand. “You’re not alone.”
After a pause… he took it.
