Ananya had always believed that love was supposed to make you feel safe. That being with someone meant being able to let your guard down, to rest your heart in someone else's hands without fear.
But with Aryan, it was never restful.
It was thrilling. Consuming. Confusing.
She had fallen for him not because he was perfect—but because he saw her in a way no one else ever had. But now, as their relationship grew heavier with silence, unanswered questions, and uneasy goodbyes, she wondered if love alone was enough.
Aryan hadn’t explained the girl. He hadn’t explained the scars. He hadn’t explained why she constantly felt like a stranger in his world, even after months of being his closest companion.
But still, he would come back. Always with soft eyes and heavy silences. He’d brush his fingers against her wrist, kiss her forehead like she was fragile, and whisper, “Don’t ever leave me.”
And each time, she stayed.
One evening, after a particularly long silence between them, Aryan took her on a drive far outside the city. The roads were empty, the stars hidden behind a cloudy sky. They stopped near an old temple, and he got out of the car without saying a word.
Ananya followed him.
“Aryan,” she said gently, “what’s going on?”
He looked at her, tired. “Do you trust me?”
“I do,” she replied without hesitation.
“Then don’t ask me about things I can’t explain.”
“But I need to understand. Where do I fit in your world? Why do you keep hiding parts of your life from me?”
He sighed. “Because I don’t want you involved in the mess. My world is dark, Ananya. If you saw what I’ve done, if you knew the people I deal with—you’d run.”
Her heart ached. “But I’m already in it. I’m already in you.”
He looked away. “That’s what I’m afraid of.”
That was the first time Aryan admitted his fear. Not of losing power or being exposed—but of losing her. Because somewhere deep down, even he knew he was breaking her.
And yet, he wouldn’t let her go.
After that night, Aryan started showing up more frequently—but with a different kind of intensity. He’d hold her tighter. Call her more often. But the secrecy remained. His phone never left his side. He never let her visit his home. And he never stayed long enough for breakfast.
Ananya’s parents were growing suspicious. Her mother found the expensive watch hidden in her drawer. Her father noticed her frequent lies about staying late at class.
“You’re not the same anymore,” her father said one night.
And he was right. She wasn’t.
She was torn between the girl she used to be and the woman Aryan had turned her into—someone who loved too much, questioned too little, and accepted silence in place of answers.
Deep down, she knew she deserved more.
But she wasn’t ready to walk away.
Not yet.
Because sometimes, when you give your heart to someone, it’s not about logic or self-respect or even happiness.
It’s about hope.
And Ananya still hoped that someday, Aryan would choose to love her without hiding from her.
