Question of the Day:
“What kind of sound makes you feel safe?”
Samaka stared at the message for a long time.
Safe?
What did that even mean?
He closed his eyes and tried to think. But his mind was like a locked room—too quiet, too empty. The kind of silence that didn’t comfort, but swallowed you whole.
After five minutes, he typed—
Samaka:
> I don’t know. Maybe silence?
Yuka replied instantly.
Yuka:
> Whoa, really? Silence freaks me out.
Like, if it’s too quiet, I feel like ghosts are about to whisper in my ears or something.
Samaka:
> That’s oddly specific.
Yuka:
> I’m oddly specific.
Samaka let a small smile escape.
Yuka was chaos in text form—always loud, random, playful. But that chaos was starting to feel… warm.
Samaka:
> Maybe… the sound of a fan spinning?
It’s kind of low and constant.
It makes the world less sharp.
Yuka paused when he read that.
This time, he was the quiet one.
Yuka:
> That’s really poetic, you know?
You’re more interesting than you think.
Samaka:
> No one’s ever told me that before.
Yuka:
> That’s because no one’s been listening properly.
For a moment, neither of them typed anything.
The silence between them wasn’t heavy. It was peaceful.
Then, Yuka sent something unexpected—a voice note.
Samaka hesitated before pressing play.
There was soft humming in the background. A light melody, off-tune but gentle. Then Yuka’s voice spoke, a little awkward, a little shy:
> “Here’s a sound I love. It’s me humming my favorite tune while watching the sky. Hope you like it.”
Samaka played it again. And again.
He didn’t know why, but it made his chest feel full. Like someone had lit a tiny lantern in the dark corners of his heart.
Samaka:
> I liked it.
Yuka:
> Mission complete! Pixel of color added!
Samaka:
> What?
Yuka:
> Your world is black and white. I’m here to mess it up.
For the first time in years, Samaka laughed.
It was quiet, almost invisible.
But it was real.
