The alleyway reeked of desperation and fear. A man lay crumpled on the cold concrete, his eyes wide with terror as a young boy stood over him, a gleaming dagger held tight in his hand.
"I'll pay double!" the man gasped, his voice trembling. "How much do you want!?"
"Who the hell sent you!?" the man cried, his voice cracking with panic.
The boy smirked, a cruel, chilling twist of his lips that was somehow more terrifying than any scream. He pulled the dagger across the man's chest, a swift, brutal motion that drew a gasp of horror from the victim.
"Your wife," the boy whispered, a chilling coldness in his voice.
The man's eyes widened in disbelief, a single choked sound escaping his lips before he crumpled, his lifeless body staining the pavement crimson.
"Pfft..." The boy stood up, his silhouette outlined against the shadows that clung to the alleyway.
"The smell of blood is so thick here," xinvex murmured as he stepped into the alleyway, pulling out a cigarette from his pocket, "Nah, I'm lazy to check," he thought to himself as he spotted Sinov in the darkness.
"Sinov!" He called out, his voice a sharp, commanding tone that cut through the silence.
Sinov dropped the dagger he was holding, his face contorted in a mask of feigned terror. He ran towards Xinvex, his movements a blur of adrenaline and fear.
"Xinvex!" He hugged him from behind, his arms clutching at Xinvex's shoulders. "Those Nighthaunts wanted to eat me!" He pretended to cry, his voice trembling as he looked over his shoulder.
Xinvex dropped his cigarette, a flicker of suspicion crossing his features. "Why are you even in an alleyway like this!?" he asked, turning to face Sinov.
"I don't know," Sinov replied, his voice a shaky whisper.
"Get off of me," Xinvex said, but he didn't push Sinov away. He couldn't help but notice how tightly Sinov clung to him, how the boy seemed to be trembling uncontrollably.
"Aren't you a bit too trusting towards me?" Xinvex asked, his eyes narrowed.
"What are you talking about?" Sinov said, stepping back and crossing his arms.
"What if I devoured you right now?" Xinvex leaned closer, a dangerous glint in his eyes.
"You wouldn't..." Sinov replied, his voice barely a breath.
"You would have done that when we were still in school," sinov said, a hint of bitterness in his voice.
"Just get out of my sight," Xinvex looked away as if to leave, but Sinov's grip tightened on his arm.
"He isn't interested anymore... What do I say now, do I act happy?" Sinov thought in his mind.
"I think they're gone now!" Sinov smiled, his eyes sparkling with a false innocence. "Thanks Xinvex," he said, hugging him tightly.
"How come you're so stupid?" Xinvex said, pulling Sinov away from him, his hand gripping his arm with surprising strength. He dragged Sinov toward an open space, away from the dark shadows of the alley.
"Is this your first day living?" Xinvex asked calmly, his gaze piercing Sinov's.
"Of course not..." Sinov replied, his eyes wide and innocent, like a little puppy.
"Those Nighthaunts were still lingering around, didn't you notice?" Xinvex said, his voice laced with a mixture of frustration and amusement.
"What? I was just lying," Sinov thought silently in his mind, a sly smile playing on his lips.
"You're dumber than I thought," Xinvex mocked, a hint of a smirk playing on his lips.
"So, you're saving my life?" Sinov smiled, leaning closer, his eyes shining with a mixture of admiration and cunning.
"Get home, I'm not saving you the second time," Xinvex said, patting Sinov's head, a gesture that was both condescending and oddly comforting.
"Can't you just bring me there instead?" Sinov asked, scratching his head, his eyes pleading.
"No," Xinvex said coldly, turning and walking away, leaving Sinov standing alone in the shadows.
"Why isn't he falling for me yet?" Sinov said in annoyance, his smile fading. "So annoying," he muttered, shaking his head as he walked toward his own home.
