The tray was place down next to the door then the old man disappeared. Aiden and Alora rush toward the tray of food.
“So... We have some porridge with little meat and... Two pieces of apple for dinner? Gosh! How stingy can these people be!!!” Said Alora, angrily.
“ It's currently 6 o’clock, we should hurry up and eat anyway, and these bodies are small, we won't die from starve even if we eat only this much.” Said Aiden, indifferently.
They picked up the warm bowls of porridge and eat. ‘At least this thing doesn’t tasted bad' thought the twin. The apple pieces are sweet and crunchy, with an eartht flavor to it. It's a pitty that they only provide two pieces.
Exactly half an hour later, the old man came back and retrieved the tray of emptied bowls.
CREAK...CLICK!
The door closed.
“... Hey, Aiden, are we going to looka at it now?” asked Alora impatiently.
“... Not yet, Alora, just wait a bit more, we don't know if he might came back suddenly for no reason.” Replied Aiden.
“...Jezzz.”
The two wait for serveral minutes, and decided that this is the perfect time for actions.
Aiden steadily pulled the box out from under the bed. Everything was leave the same. He carefully took out the tattered quill pen and the old leather book. They looks so shabby, to the point Alora and Aiden wondered if this was just an evil pranked from that so called saint.
“... This doesn’t really fit my imagination of a weapon or a key, Aiden, it feels like they are crushed a thousand times by a truck.” Said Alora, honestly.
Aiden didn’t replied his sister, for he too, was speachless by this sight.
“... Let's see if we can actually get something from them first...” said Aiden.
Alora picked up the quill pen, while the old book was handled by Aiden. The pen was basically useless, since there are no ink to use, while the book was sealed up so tight that Aiden thought every single page was glued up. Suddenly, Alora opened her mouth.
“Huh? Hey, Aiden, look at this! There's a strange silverish blue jewel here! It was hard to see at first, but it really looks incredible now that i see it closely.” Said Alora.
Aiden quickly divert his gaze toward the mystery jewel. It was a mixture of a deep sea blue color and foggy white, about the size of a newborn baby's thumb. It looks strangely enticing, especially to Alora herself.
Aiden then shifted his gaze toward the book he was holding. A jewel was also located at the top left corner of the book, however, the color was different.
“... Mine seems like a mixture of bright red and golden dusts.” Said Aiden, a bit surprised.
They look at the jewels curiously, and Alora even attempt to pull it out, and her efforts turn to vain, for it just won't budge even if she was using all her strength.
“They look like a little force could easily crush it appart, but apparently, they are sturdier than i expected them to be...” said Alora, sullenly.
Aiden was deep in thought. These days, he kept on recalling strange things, and these memories would disappeared with out traces everytime he tried to recalled it.
“Aiden?” asked Alora.
The boy snapped out of his thought hearing the familiar voice of his sister. He shook his head and said.
“ ...It's nothing, since we haven’t thought of a way to get those ‘keys' yet, let's go to sleep then, I'm a little tired.” Said Aiden.
“Oh, are you really ok, Aiden, you aren’t sick, are you?” asked Alora, worriedly.
“...I'm fine, sister, so let's go to bed, ok?” Said Aiden.
Alora nodded. The twin went to bed together.
“Sweet dreams, Aiden” said Alora, drowsy.
“... You too, sister.” Replied Aiden.
Alora close her eyes and wen to bed. He stared at his sister's face for a long time before closing his heavy eyelids. Those memories would showed up most frequently in his dreams, and though he would forget them every time he wokes up, he had a feeling that it will soon become much clearer as time goes by...
That night, a peaceful night, Aiden have a strange dream, once again.
He was sitting on a cold metallic chair at the airport, with his sister next to him and a phone on his hand. He take a glance through the background, then toward his sister. She felt his gaze and lift her face.
“ Hmmm...? What are you looking at? Is that a novel? What are you reading on the phone so intensely anyway?” His sister asked curiously.
He shifted his gaze toward the screen. It was ‘Chapter 23: The corruption of the great heroic duke’. He remembered it, a random hot search web novel he had picked to kill time while waiting at the delayed plane.
His sister then stated.
“Ahhh..., that must be the famous web novel on top searched these days, right? I remembered that the girls in my class keep on talking about in every time, to the point it was annoying. So you read this kind of novel too, huh? I thought you only knows about science, engineering or things like that only.”
As his sister keep throwing words at him, he finally open his mouth.
“... No, it was just on a whim to kill time. I was just simply curious about what kind of amazing novel it would be since it's on the top search” He replied, uninterested.
“Heh..., and here i thought my brother has finally change to a different person, but turns out, you are still the same as always huh.” She said sullenly.
He kept his gaze on the screen and continued to scool the screen down. Words flash by infront of him, time seems to have stopped.
“Come to think of it...” a sudden voice rang up.
“That novel, it was.... Um... ‘Unfortunate life of a corrupted duke' right?”
He nodded silently.
“He's such an unfortunate man, I hearded that the girls in the class kept crying, saying his life is unfair, how he was forced on an unwanted marriage, or when he lost both his lovers and children and even when he died, it was because he was betrayed by his only trusted friend too, jezz..., such a tired life.”
She said, feeling a bit sorry for the man.
“... Why does it matter anyway...” the boy said.
“It was just a novel character, and we are not living his life nor do we have any connection to him. It doesn’t matter that much” said the boy, calmly.
“Jezz..., my younger brother is such a cold person, you should try to open yourself more, even when you rarely interact with people, even with mom and dad...” replied his sister.
“Passengers from flight no.xx, please come to station ...” a mechanical voice was heared.
“Oh, it's our flight, let's go! We are going to see our parents and relatives after such a long time.” Said the girl, excitingly.
He put his phone in the pocket, and followed his sister without a word to their destination.
His views starts to blurred, and he wokes up from the creaking sounds of a door.
CREAK.....
