That morning, the atmosphere at the Mahesa family's house felt quieter than usual. Gaby stood in front of the mirror, putting on a blazer. Her face looked a little tired, but her gaze remained firm. Today, she had to leave for the office earlier than usual. Inevitably, after the accident that befell Leon, Gaby now had to take direct control of the company.
With a heavy breath, Gaby finally stepped out of the house. She took a moment to glance at Leon's room, the door tightly closed. "Hold on, Leon," she murmured softly before hurrying to the car.
Arriving at the office, Gaby was immediately greeted by Rafael, Leon's trusted assistant. "Good morning, Mrs. Gaby," Rafa greeted politely as he walked closer.
"Morning, Rafa. How are the meeting preparations?" Gaby asked, quickening her pace towards the elevator.
"All the managers are gathered in the meeting room, Madam. They are waiting for your arrival," Rafa reported quickly.
Gaby nodded, and they both entered the elevator. As soon as the elevator doors closed, Rafa seemed hesitant for a moment before finally starting a conversation.
"A few days ago, I tried to contact Mr. Leon, Madam. There's something I wanted to convey," Rafa said slowly, keeping his tone polite.
Gaby turned, looking at Rafa seriously. "Leon didn't return your call?"
Rafa shook his head slightly. "No, Madam. As you said, Mr. Leon's condition is not yet stable. I also heard about the incident with the new nurse."
Gabriel sighed deeply. "Yes, that's right. After the accident, his emotions became even more uncontrollable. Even the last nurse, Sister Mery, was treated roughly by Leon after only working for a day. Not to mention, Clarissa unilaterally ended their relationship. That made his condition even worse."
Rafa nodded understandingly. He hesitated for a moment, but finally mustered the courage to convey what was bothering him.
"Actually, Madam, besides the company issues... there's one more thing I wanted to say."
Gaby looked at Rafael attentively. "What is it, Rafa? Just say it."
Rafa seemed hesitant, but finally said, "A few nights ago, I accidentally saw Miss Clarissa... having dinner with Mr. Davin."
Gaby's eyes widened immediately upon hearing that. "What?!" she exclaimed in a half-whisper. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
How could Clarissa be with another man so quickly? Especially Davin. The man who is now with Clarissa, is Leon's enemy.
Gaby still wanted to ask further, but at that moment the elevator doors opened, indicating they had arrived at the meeting room floor.
"We'll talk about it later," Gaby said quickly, stepping out of the elevator, followed by Rafa.
They walked quickly towards the meeting room, where all the managers were sitting neatly waiting. When Gaby entered the room, all eyes were on her. Gaby tried to put aside her thoughts about Clarissa and Davin and focus on her task today.
The meeting went smoothly. Gaby led the discussion with assertiveness, listening to each manager's report on the setbacks that had occurred over the past month. She also deftly proposed new solutions and strategies to revive the company's performance.
In her heart, Gaby was grateful that at least today's meeting went better than she had imagined. But the thoughts about Clarissa and Davin still bothered her... and she knew, sooner or later, it would bring new problems for the injured Leon.
After the meeting, Gaby decided to go straight to the hospital. Today was Leon's routine check-up, something that had been planned since last week. Although tired after the long meeting, Gaby remained enthusiastic. She hoped there would be progress in her son's condition.
However, as soon as she arrived in the hospital parking lot, Gaby's phone rang. The name "Aunt Eli" appeared on the screen.
Gaby immediately answered the phone. "Hello, Aunt Eli?" she greeted.
From the other end, Aunt Eli's voice sounded worried. "Mrs. Gaby... sorry to bother you. But I have to tell you, Mr. Leon refuses to come to the hospital. He... he strongly refuses today's check-up."
Gaby was silent for a moment, her heart feeling heavy. "But didn't we agree to meet at the hospital today?" she asked, trying to remain calm.
"Yes, Madam. But Mr. Leon really doesn't want to. He even locked himself in his room and won't talk to anyone," Aunt Eli replied with a worried voice.
Gaby sighed deeply. She decided to sit on a chair in the hospital corridor, trying to calm her mind. Her eyes gazed far away, her mind filled with worry and exhaustion.
"What else do I have to do to make Leon want to fight for himself?" Gaby thought softly in her heart. Although tired and her heart almost despaired, Gaby refused to give up. Leon was her son. And she was determined to do anything so that Leon could recover.
As she was lost in her reverie, a small commotion from the end of the corridor caught Gaby's attention. She turned and saw a young girl in a nurse's uniform trying to feed an elderly patient who seemed stubborn.
The patient shook his head hard, refusing the spoonful offered. Even some of the food spilled on the floor.
However, the girl remained patient. A gentle smile never left her face. Patiently, she cleaned up the spilled food, then tried again to feed the patient.
"Come on, Sir. Just a little bit, okay? If you don't eat, you won't get better quickly," the girl said in a soft, patient voice.
The patient still looked away, refusing to eat.
The girl laughed softly, then continued, "You yourself said you were tired of being in the hospital all the time, right? If you want to go home quickly, you have to eat, then take your medicine. Agreed, okay?"
The patient snorted softly, but this time, when the spoon was directed back to his mouth, he finally opened his mouth, albeit reluctantly.
Gaby, who was watching from afar, unconsciously smiled slightly. There was sincerity and firmness emanating from the girl, something she rarely saw lately among the other nurses.
When the girl turned, their eyes met. The girl gave her a warm smile, and Gaby reciprocated with a small nod.
In her heart, Gaby began to form a thought: "If that girl wanted to be Leon's nurse, maybe she could make my son change his mind."
Meanwhile, the patient acted up again, this time trying to drop the spoon. But the girl deftly caught the spoon before it fell to the floor.
"Now, this Mr.... If you keep doing this, you'll be in the hospital longer, you know!" the girl blurted out, chuckling. "You have to be strong, okay. We agree, after eating, take your medicine right away, then go home quickly! Agreed?"
The patient finally nodded in resignation, making the girl smile in satisfaction.
After the eating session was over, the girl helped the patient back into the room. She tidied up the small messy table, then walked out of the ward, seemingly heading back to the nurses' station.
Gaby, who had been watching all along, immediately stood up and without thinking, she followed the girl.
"I have to talk to her," Gaby thought firmly. "I have to ask her to take care of Leon."
A new hope began to grow in Gaby's heart as she quickened her pace, chasing after the young nurse who was walking casually in front of her eyes.
