Chapter 2: Now, I Am Your Husband

“Cheng Yan, shouldn’t I serve tea to your parents?”

A newlywed wife is supposed to serve tea to her in-laws the day after the wedding. Lu Meng had learned this from watching TV dramas in the past.

“Cheng Yan,” who was playing with Lu Meng’s soft white hand, shook his head when he heard this. “My parents enjoy peace and quiet and don’t like being disturbed.”

“I rarely visit them myself.”

Hearing this, Lu Meng said no more.

He glanced out the window.

The weather was lovely today. Bright sunlight streamed through the window. Lu Meng wanted to go out and experience it.

“Let me take you around the village.”

Cheng Yan tightened his grip on the boy’s hand and pulled him up.

His strength was a bit much, causing Lu Meng to fall into his arms.

What hit him was softness and a unique, familiar scent.

“Meng Meng...”

A low voice whispered by his ear. Before Lu Meng could react, his lips were sealed.

“Mmph…” Having never been kissed before, Lu Meng felt like he was about to suffocate after a moment.

He pushed at Cheng Yan with all his strength, but the man didn’t budge.

Just as Lu Meng thought he might be kissed to death, Cheng Yan finally let him go.

“Meng Meng is so sweet.”

Cheng Yan held the boy tightly in his arms, savoring the sweet taste. It was simply irresistible.

“Let me go.”

The boy’s tone sounded off, and Cheng Yan immediately panicked.

Lowering his head, he saw Lu Meng’s red-rimmed eyes and tightly pressed lips, looking utterly wronged.

“What’s wrong, baby?”

Lu Meng didn’t notice the man’s term of endearment and instead accused him angrily: “I told you not to kiss me, but you kept doing it. I could hardly breathe!”

“Were you trying to kiss me to death?”

The serious expression on the little guy’s face felt more like a provocation to Cheng Yan.

“No, I love you too much to hurt you.”

“It’s just that Meng Meng is too sweet, and I couldn’t control myself. I promise I won’t do it again, okay?”

“Really?”

Lu Meng looked at him suspiciously.

The kiss had been so forceful that his lips were still tingling.

“Really. I’d never lie to you.”

Cheng Yan’s gaze was sincere, and Lu Meng chose to believe him.

The two reconciled quickly.

Meanwhile, Zhao Tian and his group finally spotted someone—a seventy-something old woman.

She wore simple clothes and was sitting at her door, sorting vegetables.

Their main task was to figure out why the village couldn’t grow crops. The side task was simply to survive.

The appearance of an NPC was a glimmer of hope.

The only girl in the group, Wang Xue, walked over. She was a gentle-looking girl with pigtails.

“Hello, Granny.”

The old woman put down the vegetables and looked at Wang Xue. “What’s the matter, young lady?”

“Well, Granny, we’re tourists who booked this village for a trip. But we’ve been wandering around and haven’t seen anyone. Now that we’ve found you, could you tell us where everyone is?”

“You’re tourists?”

“It’s been so long since outsiders came to our village.”

“This is a big deal. I have to tell the village chief.”

Mumbling to herself, the old woman got up and disappeared quickly, leaving Wang Xue unable to stop her.

She returned to the group for help.

“Brother Zhao, what should we do now?”

After some thought, Zhao Tian gave an answer. “Follow her.”

Lu Meng, who had just stepped out of the house with Cheng Yan, bumped into Zhao Tian’s group, who were chasing after the old woman.

Lu Meng hid behind Cheng Yan but peeked out, quietly observing the group.

Zhao Tian couldn’t look away the moment he saw the boy.

So adorable. He wanted to pull him into his arms.

Cheng Yan noticed Zhao Tian’s gaze on Lu Meng and frowned. With a hint of provocation, he held Lu Meng’s hand and walked past them.

After glancing at the outsiders, Lu Meng shifted his attention back to Cheng Yan and let him lead him away.

At the back of the group, Meng Yue stared at the boy’s retreating figure, his eyes gleaming.

Their open behavior made it clear who they were—the village chief’s son Cheng Yan and his young wife, Lu Meng.

How could Meng Yue be so sure? The village chief’s son was known for his sickly appearance and young male spouse.

Thinking of the boy’s dependence on Cheng Yan, Zhao Tian clicked his tongue, his desire to take the boy for himself growing stronger.

After all, in the storyline, Cheng Yan was destined to die, leaving the boy a lonely widow. It was too pitiful.

If he couldn’t take him away, he could at least care for him in the limited time they had.

Unaware of Zhao Tian’s thoughts, Lu Meng grew tired as Cheng Yan led him further.

The strong sun made it feel like summer. He pointed to a large tree not far away.

“Cheng Yan, can we rest there?”

Cheng Yan glanced at Lu Meng, noticing his flushed face and sweaty forehead. His lips were pale.

He led him to the shade of the tree, where two wooden benches provided a resting spot.

The shade and breeze were so comfortable that Lu Meng felt sleepy.

“Meng Meng.”

Lu Meng hummed in response, and a water bottle was pressed to his lips.

Gratefully, he took a few sips of the cool water, feeling refreshed.

After handing the bottle back, he asked, “Aren’t you drinking?”

Cheng Yan gazed into Lu Meng’s bright eyes, which reflected his image.

Suppressing his jealousy, he realized the boy belonged to him alone.

Before Lu Meng could react, Cheng Yan pulled him into another kiss.

This time, Lu Meng thought, At least I can breathe...

The kiss wasn’t long, but it satisfied Cheng Yan.

This was his legitimate spouse; he had no reason to restrain his affection.

Afterwards, a drowsy Lu Meng fell asleep in his arms.

When he woke up, a strange man was staring at him.

“You…who are you?”

Zhao Tian looked at the freshly awakened young man. The flush on his face had yet to fully fade, and those round, sparkling eyes gazed at him with innocence. His enticing lips seemed to silently lure him closer.

Damn it! He looked so kissable.

Not knowing when Cheng Yan might return, Zhao Tian seized the moment. He scooped Lu Meng up in his arms and dashed down a hidden path he'd scouted beforehand.

Caught off guard, Lu Meng panicked. He was worried Cheng Yan would come back and not find him, so he struggled and pushed at Zhao Tian, demanding to be put down.

"Don't move, or I'll find a spot to properly deal with you," Zhao Tian threatened, his tone carrying an ambiguous undertone.

But Lu Meng, clueless about the implication, pouted and complained to the system.

"This guy is so mean! Not only did he kidnap me, but now he wants to beat me up."

The system, fully aware of the double meaning, chose to stay silent, letting Lu Meng vent without offering a single word.

After running for over ten minutes, Zhao Tian finally found a secluded area. It was in the back hills behind the village, with no houses nearby.

He set Lu Meng down.

Finally free, Lu Meng turned and attempted to leave immediately.

But before he could take a step, he was tightly embraced from behind.

A low chuckle resonated by his ear. "I went through so much trouble to get you out of there, and you're just going to leave? Isn't that a bit heartless?"

Realizing he couldn’t break free, Lu Meng glared at him angrily. "Why would I escape? I don’t even know you!"

"You even separated me from my husband. You’re nothing but a bad person."

"What did you call that man?"

The smile on Zhao Tian’s face vanished entirely.

His sudden icy demeanor frightened Lu Meng, but he still remembered his mission.

In a small voice, he said, "Cheng Yan and I are already married. Naturally, he’s my husband."

Zhao Tian sneered coldly, his fingers lightly brushing against the boy’s soft, pale cheeks. "He’s already dead. From now on, I’m your husband."

Lu Meng was thoroughly shaken, but more than that, he didn’t believe it. Just before he fell asleep, he had clearly heard Cheng Yan’s gentle voice, telling him to wait here like a good boy, that he’d be back soon.

"You’re lying!"

"Cheng Yan is perfectly fine!"

"You… you’re awful!"

Seeing the tears welling up in the boy’s eyes, Zhao Tian finally snapped out of it. What had he done out of jealousy?

"I’m sorry, Meng Meng. I just like you too much. That’s why I said those horrible things."

"Please don’t cry anymore, okay?"

Zhao Tian turned him around to face him and leaned in to gently kiss away his tears.

"My baby’s tears taste so sweet."

"You’re lying again! Tears are obviously salty!"

"I’m not lying." Zhao Tian smiled. Before Lu Meng could argue further, he kissed him again.

After being kissed three times in one day, the boy was inexplicably starting to get used to it…

The system watched this scene unfold and began to doubt its very existence.

Aren’t they supposed to be in a supernatural world?
